Flyers goaltender Joseph Woll was the special guest on the new edition of Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus on Friday.
Back in June, the Flyers and the Toronto Maple Leafs swapped backup goaltenders and defensemen on Tuesday. The Flyers acquired 27-year-old goaltender Woll and 27-year-old defenseman Simon Benoit. In return, they sent 26-year-old goaltender Samuel Ersson and 24-year-old defenseman Emil Andrae to the Maple Leafs plus a 2026 third-round pick.
Additionally, the Flyers sent their 2026 third-round pick to Toronto in the deal.
Both Woll and Ersson have had stretches of strong play in their NHL careers to date. Both have had some injury issues. Woll, however, has performed at an overall higher level in 117 regular season NHL games than Ersson has had in his 143 games to date. During the 2025-26 season, Woll posted a 15-16-7 record, .899 save percentage, two shutouts, and a3.31 goals against average behind a leaky defense. Overall, he has a 2.93 goals against average and .906 save percentage.
Woll also has 14 games of Stanley Cup playoffs experience under his belt. He played especially well in his three 2024 appearances (0.86 GAA, .964 save percentage).

Team Toyota Spotlight: Jett Luchanko
Flyers forward prospect Jett Luchanko celebrates his 20th birthday on August 21. His 2025-26 season was a bit of a disappointment. He started out behind schedule, missing Development Camp, the World Junior Summer Showcase and Rookie Camp (including the Rookie Series against the New York Rangers prospects.
Subsequently, the team’s 2024 first-round pick (13th overall) did not take the next step developmentally in his draft-plus-two season. While with the rebuilding Guelph Storm (OHL), Luchanko had 17 points (2g, 15a) in 11 games. After being training to the Brantford Bulldogs — a much better team — Luchanko moved down in the lineup to support 2025 Seattle Kraken first-round pick Jake O’Brien and 2026 Vancouver Canucks’ first-rounder Caleb Malhotra.
With Brantford, Luchanko chipped in 26 points (5g, 21a) in 27 games: not disastrous, but less than hoped for Luchanko at that stage of his junior career. Meanwhile, playing in his second straight World Junior Championship for Team Canada, Luchanko saw bottom-six (eventually, fourth line) duty plus second-unit power play time. He had one point (0g, 1a, -4) in seven games. He later dressed in 15 OHL playoff games (2g, 5a, 7 points).
After the season, Lunchanko underwent a core muscle procedure to deal with an issue that nagged him for much of the season. That would partially explain his developmental flat-line during the season. Core muscle injuries are hard to play through successfully. They also take time the next season to return to full capacity. Luchanko once again missed on-ice work at the Flyers’ Development Camp.
To reiterate, Luchanko is still not even 20 years old. He has eight NHL regular season games plus one playoff game of experience. It’s still premature to write off the player or pigeonhole him a solely a fast-skating checker with little offensive upside.
In fact, Luchanko has shown above-average playmaking ability at lower levels (including the Calder Cup playoffs with the Phantoms in 2025). The issues have been a reluctance to shoot the puck, a tendency to play too safe and lack sufficient puck touches. That was certainly the case in his NHL cups of coffee to date.
Any way one looks at it, 2026-27 is a vital season now that Luchanko will become a full-time pro.

Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp countdown
The 12th annual edition of the Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp is sold out.
Camp is right around the corner from August 14 to 17, 2026, at the Class of 1923 Arena on the University of Pennsylvania campus. This year’s Flyers Alumni coaches: Mark Recchi, Mark Howe, Patrick Sharp, Joe Watson, Tim Kerr, Keith Jones, and Robert Esche. Flyers Alumni president Brad Marsh is also scheduled to participate as a coach. Marsh, however, is currently hobbled with a knee issue.
