So…remember the good old days on HB when we used to have the bestest conversations about the Canucks, gosh I kinda miss those days. Despite some serious flaws with this format let’s get some conversations going again about the Canucks, a lot is happening on the “left coast” right now. Cheers!!

I’m thinking Malhotra will be hired sooner than later, but stranger things have happened, I’m just glad Rutherford is mostly out of the picture, he was the creator of a lot of problems within the organization. Either by opening his mouth too much or by not dealing with internal things in a timely manner. I’m hopeful the Canucks are in a better place now, even though it won’t show it in the standings for a while.

Yeah, everything seems to be pointing in that direction. Personally, I have mixed feelings about yet another rookie Coach and GM combo. But at this point I doubt there’s many other options. I can’t see the demand being high to be part of the 32nd place team that’s in no rush to win.

Coaching hire oughta be coming soon & the draft is coming up fast.

This format has its issue as well, but at least it’s somewhat better than HB, which is deplorable.

The draft is going to be interesting, on many fronts, I’m not sure at this point if the Canucks stay at #3 or they move up or down???

Ownership has a lot to do with who they can and can’t hire, in my opinion. The Sedins, much like Linden, were golden boys in Vancouver, but that didn’t work out so well for Trev, maybe Aquilini has learned. But I doubt it.

Regardless, the available talent pool thins fast for losing teams with the sort of track record the Canucks have over the last decade or so. I can’t see them being high on anyone’s list of places to sign both on and off the ice.

Me too, they just looked unbeatable during the regular season. But that’s why they play the playoffs games, different animal. Necas had one goal in 13 games, not good enough.

Latest rumour is 3 HC on the list Malhotra of course, Knoblaugh & Cassidy. The latter VGK isn’t letting anyone interview. All 3 have good reasons to be hired Malhotra the sentimental choice but a rookie, Knoblaugh who can get offence out of his roster & Cassidy who’s systems get a good team game identity going. Idk which style best suits the Canucks at these early stages of a rebuild or which HC candidate wants a rebuild situation. On that my guess is Malhotra more interested with maybe Knoblaugh next. Idk Cassidy’s mind set after the Bruins then VGK jobs would be interested might want another PO type team to be HC.

If all 3 are interested do you have a favourite?

      Debrusk/24oa for Hawks 4oa?
1st up idk if Debrusk would waive.
More importantly does that fit for Hawks?

Would it take EP in a bigger package?

A new beginning that looks something like this…

“After an exhaustive search through the available hockey people for the Presidents job we found that our player development coaches were the best fit to lead the club and President of Hockey Operations”.

      Followed by…

“After an exhaustive search through the available hockey people we found that the GM of our farm team was the best fit for the General Manager position for the Canucks”

      Followed by…

“After an exhaustive search through the available NHL coaches, we found that the coach of our farm team was the best fit”.

      Followed by…

After an exhaustive search to fill the players development coach position, we found that former Canuck and Swede, Alex Edler was the best fit”.

      Followed by…

“After exhaustive scouting of the draft eligible players in the 2026 NHL entry draft, we found that our coaches kid is the best player to pick at #3 OA”.

Sure feels like a new beginning and direction….

Things have kind of gone quiet in Canuckland but with just over three weeks until the draft I expect things to start heating up again. I’d like to see Filip Hronek traded to San Jose for the 20th pick, they’re looking for defence. I think it’s the Oilers pick, that way the team would have four picks in the top 33. They could get a nice start on a rebuild with that!!

The 20oa pick isn’t worth a proven top pairing RHD. A GM would get roasted & run outta town doing SJ a favour like that. 20oa+ maybe. What would a 20oa career project as?

I don’t know if Petey was a Brackett guy, but I do know he’s a shell of his former self and the club would be wise to rid themselves of his game and his personality at this point.

Good he really hasn’t done a spectacular job in Minnesota, Canucks have 3 of his top picks in Rossi(9oa), Ohgren(19oa) and Buium(12oa). Brackett isn’t the drafting guru Lefty made him out to be.

I’ve been hearing Canuck related media saying Todd Harvey is rumored to be pushing hard for Verhoeff at 3oa.

Areas for ImprovementSkating Mechanics: Scouts remain somewhat divided on his skating. While he generates plenty of raw power and has excellent tight-area edgework, his backward skating, pivots, and open-ice acceleration require refinement to evade faster NHL-level forecheckers

He has a hitch every once in a while with his pivot backwards. Nothing big and probably a hangover from starting out as a Goalie and skating in goalie skates. I do it myself in player skates from time to time because there’s different pivot point between rockered skates and the flat goalie blade. It’s not a big issue because his balance is fantastic and it’s something that can be fixed with time and experience.

He’ll have to adjust quickly facing NHL speed & pressure. I’ll be fine with whoever is picked 3oa. Strong C draft next year allows for BPA this draft. If Verhoeff or Reid our D is set for many years & picks 24 33 41 oughta be heavy on F’s.

If Verhoeff or Carels or Malhotra are the targets then a trade down. At 3oa if SJ keeps 2oa we get Stenberg my guess. If gone then go BPA.

Nobody’s trading down. It’s super rare that anyone ever does in the top 5. Just take the player you have ranked the highest and move on to the next pick. Just going from the rankings of players I’ve watched personally over the last couple of years in the WHL, it’s a deep draft. They’ll get a good player at 24 as well.

This what scares me. They are not very good at identifying best player. As much as I like Cootes, they passed on what most others thought were better picks and now that draft +1 is out of the way, we see the picks immediately after him look a step above already.

If they take Caleb… they’ve done it all over again most likely. You can take a elite winger or dman… and go for a C next year when they will have more and better options most likely. But I sense some tunnel vision in play.

I get it… we need character but at #3 it’s ridiculous to reach out of the top 3 for the coaches kid which is surely going to back fire at some point. Between fans, media, team mates, father son, etc etc… it’s just a bad idea especially after suffering a unhealthy room the last few years.

It’s not a stretch to imagine Tynan Lawrence who will be his team mate next season at BU will outshine him and suppress Caleb’s ice time. Tynan will already be a sophomore. Caleb may only be the 3rd best C in this draft. Pass.

I’m hoping Caleb Malholtra is a smoke screen. I’ll be genuinely shocked if he goes 3rd with the brief success he’s enjoyed. I’m also not the biggest fan of the Cootes pick. He has been pretty vanilla the 5 or so times I saw him play against the Royals. But he also had no talent surrounding him until he joined Prince Albert. So you never know even if you sorta do.

Verhoeff is my guy this year. There’s enough depth in this draft to get a decent C later. Or trade Hronek for one.

Scouching did a pretty honest feeling breakdown of Malholtra. Said in the games he watched he was not as defensively aware as the reputation he has for it. Not just that but had to be bailed out too often. Mentions his top speed is respectable but slow on the first 3 strides. All stuff that can be worked on but not typically in a player going top 3 (or 4 or 5 even).

I’d post the link but every time I’ve tried my post disappears. Youtube block I guess. I find Scouching doesn’t get caught up in the player of the moment groupthink.

I’m not thinking a trade down will happen but reaching is pointless. I have it McKenna Reid then Stenberg a Canuck. SJ imo won’t pass up on need in a strong D draft & plans to not be a lottery team in ‘27. Hawks could go any direction but my guess is Malhotra & they trade for a vet D. Rangers go BPA & probably Verhoeff. Flames in a good place to choose either Carels or Bjork.

As for 24oa I agree something good will fall & good chance a C. I’d like to see size & skating picked in the 2nd. Let 2027 add another elite prospect.

Looking back at the 2014 Virtanen draft sure missed out on any 1 of many good players. In order drafted Nylander Ehlers Larkin Tuch Pastrnak Kempe.

Basically shows at 3oa gotta get it right so no Malhotra. Af 24 mine another gem & this rebuild takes great shape fast. Add in a high 1st in 2027 & keep it going on.

I sort of feel sorry for Bill, when you only get about 4 replies a day it is not good.I don’t allow interaction yet because I don’t find WP justify what a quality site looks like. I think Bill has the right idea but needs a better web host

If this site hits a lot of traffic it will explode and not be able to handle it. Bill is a good guy and has a great idea but he needs to start exploring other options. Maybe even use the old HB way and builders.

EP’s consolidated has him at 41 which is happens to be where the Canucks are with their second pick in that round.

If you want a tenacious physical checker of the same size, Gleb Pugachyov is supposed to be the guy. Out of Russia though… think a bigger harder hitting Kiefer Sherwood.

You want a even bigger checker who is known for his very solid D game… Adam Andersson. This guy hits everything that moves at 6’4″… also likes net front presence…

I am not knowledgeable regarding what a proper site should look like, but this platform does have its struggles.

The old HB was great for conversing or interacting with so many different views, but unfortunately EK was completely out of his league in managing that site. But why hasn’t someone replicated that model as it was so successful 15 years ago.

One thing that I think should happen is the order of the posting. I seem to remember an option on the WP dashboard that gives you the option of of listing the posts. Example newest one on the top of the page to the oldest. This way you don’t need to scroll down the whole thread to see the latest post.

Yes, you can absolutely configure your WordPress interactive comment threads to display from newest post to oldest. How you achieve this depends on whether you want a static administrative setting or a dynamic user-facing toggle.Method 1: Built-in Core WordPress Setting (Static Change)WordPress has a built-in feature to change the chronological order of your comment threads. This applies to all visitors globally.Navigate to your WordPress dashboard.Go to Settings > Discussion.Locate the Other comment settings section.Look for the line that reads: “Comments should be displayed with the [Older/Newer] comments at the top of each page”.Change the dropdown selection from Older to Newer.Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.

I go away for awhile and all kinds of new posters have showed up.

Hey buddy, have been thinking of you often, hope all is well.

Things are alright. Got quite sick back in February, had meningitis and Ecole. Lucky to still be here.
        How are things with you
