Let’s see Ottawa s 1st goal was lucky, bounced off the back wall hit the back of Knights glove on the fly and went in the net.
2nd goal there was a breakdown of coverage in our own zone, big enemy of the goalie he was 5 feet in front Knight with a ton of time and space and as he waited Knight looks like he leaned forward which exposed the top half of the net and he buried it.
3rd goal Kaiser made a bad pinch.
They did get a couple of 2 on 1 chances they missed on, this is where i think they lose the replacement forward coming off the bench
I believe when it comes to the long changes for the Blackhawks, 2 things, the dmen forget when the player is going off the ice the player coming in can sneak behind them off the bench, 2nd they need to play 200 feet of hockey, so shooting it in and getting off the ice so they keep shifts short especially when leading.
Id like to see the dmen use their legs more to get the puck out and force the forwards to come up and play them so they create better passing lanes

The result was different, but in both games the Hawks played much better hockey in the 3rd than in the 2nd.
That was my point. Both games featured a better BH team in the 3rd period.
I understand the long change is in the 2nd, but nothing struck me as really poor with that.
Did I miss some really poor changes leading to goals?🤘

I’ve maintained the idea that, if any really good players become available:
a) it won’t be until summer 2027 at the earliest
b) it won’t be like CHI and the TBL, who lost players due to a cap squeeze
it will be because a few teams fail at or age out of their Cup Window, and go for an on-the-fly rebuild (like Montreal did)Pure Evil
It’s amazing how bad these 2nd periods have been.
The team was much more poised and mature in the 3rd period, like they flipped a switch.Keeping in mind LA and OTT play different styles the responses in both 3rd periods were different. OTT does have the 8th best GF% in the league so they are a good club but the Hawk speed, hunger and Bedard won that 3rd period with the LA game fresh in mind. ……
Guys like Frenchy are gonna use the term response a lot this yr with the Hawks. They’ve shown they’re good enough to win on any night so finding consistency as they respond to many bad results/periods/shifts thru a full season will be frequent…
Just wanted to add, the thing I liked tonight, it was better management of the puck to me. Lots of small space passes to players and more poise with the puck on the stick tonight as a group. I didn’t think that after 10 games we’d have 33 goals for and only 25 against for +8. The team hasn’t had to trail very often usually had the lead or tied. Actually approaching the middle of the pack for shots against per game now, they’ve brought that average down under 30. -4.9 shot differential per game right now, which is still not great but this is where the small things get important. Win a couple more shifts a game, and suddenly that differential will start to even out. That might come from more guys selling out to block shots, getting more sticks in lanes, winning more draws or improving the cycle on the attack to get more offensive pressure as examples.
Rinzel deserves so much credit too as a guy in his first real season playing the role he does on the top pair. Vlasic and Rinzel have been facing the other team’s top players (the numbers strongly back this up) and they’ve been a generally solid pair. They might become a pair that teams around the league hate to go up against.
The Hawks have hit their ceiling with the way they manage the puck. Just went to check their fancies and see they have the top PDO number in the league. Zero doubt a correction is coming, the degree to which will be determined by puck management (possession). ….. But it all fits, really. A hungry, fast, highly skilled group (4 lines of it to some degree) is out playing the fancies.
I think it’s logical to expect the possession numbers will only improve. That they are at their floor on that account. The kids will only gain experience thru each game and improve on Blashill’s wants. … And I’d add IMO their structure is exceptional to the degree of all the youth on the ice on top of learning aa new coach/systems. ………

Agreed but Rinzel has been getting beat up lately and no one came to his aid last night in the 1st with that late hit behind the net. He’s already sporting a black eye as well. At what point does Kyle go out and bring someone in to protect his investments? Bring up EDM? And once they go to 12-6 again, they won’t be able to shield mins for Arty and our newest “3-wheeled shopping cart” Murphy.

From my seat, I would like to see Vlasic take more of the stand up for the teammate role. Not saying goon it up, but he does have the physical gifts, I think he holds back.
You mentioned Murphy and we all know his groin issues and such are slowing him down, along with age creeping in, but I thought he had a better game last night. He had a couple really good hits, one that led to the shorthanded chance where Nazar and Foligno overpassed the puck. The dude is still getting a big share of the dzone draws, playing physical, and giving what he has out there. Out of all our D, the opposing team has the fewest shots on goal per 60(5v5) when Murphy is on the ice while he leads the team in dzone starts per 60 (5v5). His role has decreased a bit, but he hasn’t been a liability.
I think Blashill has more so sheltered Grezlyck along with Levshunov as the two guys he doesn’t want to put out in the Dzone. With this 7 D rotation, it seems like Rinzel/Vlasic/Kaiser get a little bit of everything, Murphy/Crevier are specialized into Dzone minutes as much as possible. Grzelyck/Levshunov shelter from Dzone starts. I have to say, I think Grzelyck for his deficiencies in his own end, has done the stuff he is good at pretty well. Skates well, makes good passes to move the puck but he can be an adventure in his own end and isn’t very physical or gonna win a ton of battles. I think the good is outweighing the bad with him as long as the Hawks can keep him out of situations they don’t want him in, like defending in his end against a heavy forecheck team.
