Comparing to last season sounds like when my wife tells me that she saved money by buying something for 40% off.

It’s not an act. I have my opinions and you have yours.
By declaring that trading away 2 recent 1st round picks is nothing suggests you are not aware of how valuable a 1st round pick is.
Is it too much to expect a return in line with Danton Heinen and draft picks (a 2026 2nd and 2027 3rd rounder) for the 2 former 1st rounders combined?

His teams have finished 31 or 32 every year he’s been GM. How many years more years of the bottom are you going to allow to see what comes? Answer that question with a specific year in which the team makes a long playoff run.
Seth Jones won the Cup, made the Olympic team, and was having a solid season until he got hurt. Knight’s start was amazing, he’s come back to earth since. The Hawks are still paying $2.5 of Jones. I am going to allow time to see what comes of whatever this trade turns out to be before declaring KD the new Sam Pollock.
I too remember people writing about toughness back on HB in those times. I thought those teams were tough enough and the poster was wrong. No toughness no Cup went overboard. Can’t remember a single post you have ever written until today but I am going to take a guess: You are probably one of those posters still whining about the Danault trade and how horrible a job Bowman did. You probably think that Tallon deserves all the credit for his drafting of Duncan Keith. Even though Keith was drafted by Smith.

That’s insane Steve and yes you weren’t getting that back. It’s why I call it an act because your expectations aren’t based in any sort of reality.

Here…let me help you out a little and explain how this works. First round picks are valuable when a) They haven’t been yet made or b) when said first rounder lives up to their draft status. Also combining two former first round draft picks who don’t appear to be more than fringe NHL’ers doesn’t necessarily get you what you’re looking for and it certainly wasn’t getting you a somewhat useful player and a 2nd and 3rd rounder. You’re higher than the ISS if you think that’s a realistic return for Reichel and Allan based solely on the fact they were former first rounders. Just ludicrous.

I’m not declaring KFC anything but that was one of those trades that’s a win/win. Knight is still playing great hockey. One bad game represents his coming back to earth numbers but I know that doesn’t fit your narrative.

Also, I’m not that guy, so as usual you’re wrong. I was never the guy crying about trades Stanbo made or the guy that thought that those Cup teams were ALL the handiwork of Dale Tallon.

To my original point, in the world of spilled milk, this trade wouldn’t fill a thimble…and yet here we are.

Spellacy is an energy guy with speed and hopefully enough skill. If he develops more than that big win for the Blackhawks, but if he’s a 25 top 35 point forward who is one of 3 forwards who tilt the ice in our favor on a regular basis it’s a great draft pick.

Agreed and with his skill level, I could see him being more Ben Eager than Wilson/Benny.

Spellacy won’t sniff top 6 anytime soon, if ever.

    That’s likely true.

Spellacy said he patterns his game after Tom Wilson.
Sam Bennett is another good comparison for him.
Obviously they were both drafted much higher than Spellacy.
The similarities are in how the first 2 earned their NHL paychecks.
They played a harsh physical game, both regularly crossing over into dirty hits and multiple suspensions.
Spellacy seems to already realize a similar style is his ticket to the NHL.
Hopefully he can do it without being as dirty as those two, only time will tell.

<p class=”userway-s15-active” data-userway-s15-styled=”true” style=”font-family: UDF, serif !important; transition: all;”>Surprised Allan was traded away today, but now he’s given a chance with another org, wonder if Taige Harding passed him up.

With the emergence of Big Louie and he was probably behind EDM Allan’s time was up. With the amount of draft choices we have, it’s inevitable this will happen to some of them. Not much leverage on our side.

Spellacy won’t sniff top 6 anytime soon, if ever. He’s 4th liner on a contender that could slide up to 3rd if/when needed.

Another bad draft pick. Wirtz has to can Davidson before he does further damage to the team.

Thanks for the back and forth. Clearly you are in the Davidson can do no wrong crowd. It’s adorable how beloved he is. I said the returns are underwhelming. Are you overwhelmed? I prefer when GM’s fluff up their prospects before trading them like Columbus just did instead of burying them and selling them cheap. I will double down on my sad sack attitude: One of the NHL goalies will probably get hurt in the next couple of games and people will wish there was capable NHL backup in the system to keep the playoff dream alive. Ooops Hawks traded one to meet the salary floor. I think the Hawks have interesting prospects and other teams do as well. Hard to tell who is going to be better till they start playing with and against men. It is unclear how any of them develop. Rinzel was hyped as coming in on the top D pair. He was rushed. Frondell, Nestrasil, Spellacy, and Kansterov are all going to be projected as top 6 forwards for next season and all of them would benefit from a year in Rockford or stay where they are.

Finally, someone who hates Davidson like I do. Clearly he’s in over his head. What has he done? He traded Hagel, Debrincat and Kirby Dach and what has he drafted? An overrated China doll center, another China doll center both of who are currently injured, surprise, surprise. What other draft picks are any good? How about the cop trading away a top defenseman for a backup goalie. And over paying a below average defenceman and the previously mentioned China doll center who’s overrated. And of course there’s the unproven coach.
