ParticipantII would imagine the Flyers knew that the Carlsson offer sheet, win or lose, was going to drive up the asking price of Zegras and Drysdale. Couple that with the Byram deal, that probably helped Drysdale even more.
Do you think the Flyers get either or both under 10 million AAV or has that ship sailed?
I would walk away from a Drysdale award of 10M or higher. Don’t love 10M for Zegras but can live with it.

Bill MeltzerKeymasterThe cap inflation is everywhere, not just because of the Carlsson offer sheet. That said, the OS is definitely a factor across the league. They made a first-time RFA the highest-paid player in the NHL (for now).

ParticipantZegras is good but shouldn’t get what Aho does even with cap inflation.
Oh no, that’s not the suggestion. Aho is clearly better. The tricky part, as I see it with Zegras, is he’s a solid 7.5% of the cap guy as he is today, but still has an upside. A solid PPG guy is probably a 10+% of the cap guy. He’s somewhere in the middle. I think he tops out as a .9 guy give or take. Which does put him in a pretty elite grouping.
Some PPG averages for 25 YO and on for comparison:
Aho: 0.997
Larkin: 0.944
Konecny: 0.925
Hischier: 0.886July 13, 2026 at 9:33 pm #77706Skip Zahora
ParticipantZegras is good but shouldn’t get what Aho does even with cap inflation.
For example, Carolina’s Sebastian Aho carries a $9.75 AAV on his current deal (which started in 2024-25).
Aho has been a consistent PPG guy for pretty well his entire career.

311 128 182 310 0.997Zegras has been a consistent .8 PPG guy for the three years he’s been healthy. He still has a nice upside though, just heading into his 25 YO season when top players tend to find higher levels of production from 25 on.

ParticipantI’d be fine with a Risto extension.

Bill MeltzerKeymasterThe Philadelphia Flyers have roughly one week to work out new contracts with Jamie Drysdale and Trevor Zegras before their respective arbitration hearings.
