Participantjfc Mitch just shrivels up. cant have it both ways, want to be paid like the best of the best, but you have to help (lead) the team to success. softie passenger once the series gets tougher – senstrolltwo
I mean NONE of those stats are good enough from any of the core really and we all know what the results have been but Marner’s just jump out so much more.

Sam Reinhart scored more goals tonight (4) than Mitch Marner has scored in his last 20 playoff games (3).14mil vs 8.6
mitchy not a good use of that cap…if you want to win in the playoffs that is

Participant1. Nice to see you back!
2. If that’s Perry’s agent than I hope not!according to google it is lol
And I know what you mean, I guess he won it once with the knights, when the ducks wouldn’t leave him on the AHL team in 04/05 but even then I still didn’t like him all that much lol

ParticipantFlorida going back to back was inevitable, I’ve been saying it since well before the playoffs started.
Oilers made history, though. They had the most time trailing games in finals history. Both the games they won were in OT, and one was after being gifted a PP for a puck over the glass. This series wasn’t as close as it looked, an absolute blowout.
The Leafs got lucky. They jumped on Florida early and caught them unprepared. But Florida just grinds teams down, and would have beaten any team in a 7 game series. Is there a team in the past decade (or two) that could beat this Florida team?

McDavid only 1 (meaningless) goal in the series. At least the 1 goal that Marner and Matthews scored were GWGs.And the Leafs took them to Game 7.
But definitely blow up the team.
That’s gonna work wonders.
Mitch is gone, quite your whining. He is choosing to leave

The Core Four in Games 5, 6, and 7 from 2019-2025Nylander – 20 Games Played, 8 Goals, and 8 Assists
Matthews – 18 Games Played, 8 Goals and 4 Assists
Tavares – 17 Games Played, 5 Goals and 5 Assists
Marner – 20 Games Played, 0 Goals, and 7 Assists7 assists. GARBAGE.
In fact, for the amount of money being spent on all four….they’re all garbage results. Specially MArner and Matthews. Simply arent playoff warriors.-

ParticipantWelcome back.

not my ability.
And also they aren’t bans I’ve handed out just to be clear.
I’ve also touched base with Ek asking for explanations and I just get ignored so as far as I’m concerned I can’t care, especially considering I’m not paid.

What the leafs do in the next couple of years will be interesting… after that it’s going to truly influence Matthews wanting to resign in Toronto or not, especially after Marner truly setting the “all-star walking as a free agent” acceptance this year.At this point why would the leafs want him back for even more money?
Im kinda tired of seeing him in a leafs jersey anyway, unless he leads this team to a cup in the next 4 years, Im perfectly fine with him leaving.June 18, 2025 at 1:33 pm #10186Dozzer

I’m honestly thinking he knew that if this past season didn’t play out Marner would be gone so he played through the injury. Because of this I’m willing to give him next season before I set an opinion about this.
Does the Matthews before this past season come back? Or do we see another season similar to this one? That’s the question in my head right now.

ParticipantThe core 4 all lack that killer instinct that players like McDavid, Drai, Marchand, and Reinhart all have. Those guys passionately hate to lose, our guys just kinda like to win maybe if it works out. Mitch is gone, that much is known. Now where do we go from here.
I still believe in what is left of the core. This upcoming season is going to be a step back, there is almost no way to avoid that. But Tre has to find a way to bring in a difference maker in the next two years. Obviously, the #1 option is McDavid. I was certain he’d re-sign once Drai did, but after the way things went last night, he may finally realize that Edmonton is capped out, have HUGE holes to fill, and people just generally don’t want to play there. The Leafs are closer to a cup than just about any team out there, and he probably knows he’s got what it would take to put this team over the top. It’s a long shot, but not outside the realm of possibility.
Since option #1 is a long shot, now Tre has to earn his money. This years UFA class is thin, but in a year there are some heavy hitters. Very curious to see how things shake out.

You throw the names of McDavid and Draisaitl in there but they didn’t get the job done either. McDavid only had 1 goal in the series. He’s the best player in the world and Florida still stopped him. Florida also kept Kucherov, the MVP and Art Ross winner, to 0 goals the past 2 playoff runs. That should tell you how good Florida is, not the lack of a “killer instinct of the core” when the Leafs, specifically Matthews, Marner and Knies, each had a GWG against Florida and pushed them further than any other team this playoffs.
I still believe in what is left of the core.
If you still believe in Rielly and Tavares as part of the core, I have a bridge to sell you. Nylander can’t handle the load, especially defensively, that Marner had to carry. And without Marner, Matthews and the PP will suffer.
This upcoming season is going to be a step back, there is almost no way to avoid that. But Tre has to find a way to bring in a difference maker in the next two years. If the Leafs let Marner walk and bring back Tavares and Rielly, they are nowhere near winning a Cup. They’ll be lucky to make it out of the 1st round.
So the Leafs can’t afford Marner but they’ll bring in McDavid at what will be the highest salary in history. If McDavid knew what was good for him, he’d never play in Toronto after what they’ve done to their own and after the garbage they keep bringing back.
Since option #1 is a long shot, now Tre has to earn his money. This years UFA class is thin, but in a year there are some heavy hitters. Very curious to see how things shake out.
It won’t be curious. This team is managed by morons. Treliving won’t do a damn thing to move this team forward just like he failed in Calgary.

10.9 AAV is 5.1 taken home in Toronto. 8.6 is 5.5 taken home in Florida.
If Reinhart was a UFA this year, he’d be asking for 16 AAV from the Leafs and 12 AAV from Florida. He became a UFA at the wrong time.
Everybody also said “you can’t win a Cup spending 10 million on a goalie” when they signed Bob. Guess they could. Twice.
Stay dense.

the NHL doesn’t doesn’t care about this. It’s moot point as the NHL will not fix this.
