#1 Stenberg – noted as 1st Line Forward
#2 Mckenna – Elite/Franchise Player
#3 MaholtraBukala has heaped praise on Stenberg saying he does Barkov things as a winger. If the Leafs drafted him, they’d be wise to see if they can make him a center which is a huge mistake they made with Marner despite trying it with Nylander seemingly half a dozen times.
With Barkov being brought up, it’s interesting revisiting his draft year where he was taken 2nd overall behind MacKinnon. Barkov has been the bigger winner in the NHL despite MacKinnon scoring more goals and points. Why? Because the way Barkov plays the game is what wins you more playoff games and wins more Cups despite both teams being absolute stacked. That’s been the missing ingredient with the Leafs for a very, very long time. Scoring points is nice but winning is nicer which is why drafting the guy who can play in more than one zone of the ice is vital to building a winner. Just look at Carolina and how their leading point scorer this year had 80 points and leading goal scorer had 32. It’s the same thing McDavid wants to happen in Edmonton because winning is what matters.
Leafs should be throwing money at Bukala to be on their draft team. He worked with Nashville and Florida and has made some great decisions. He’s from Alliston and works for Sportsnet so it’s not like he’d have to go very far to work for the Leafs. Clearly he’s helped build a winner so it’s not like he’s a failed nobody like Chayka.

Participantwhat a wild overpay for Byram. what is Chicago doing?

ParticipantYa, not 6-7 1st rounders stupid.
Washington gets a couple of ok players and 16th.
No one ever said Nylander and matthews wouldn’t bring a decent return.
But the leafs arent rebuilding…THEY DONT HAVE THE NEXT 2 YEARS OF THEIR 1ST ROUNDERS.
For the dummy in the backAgain, you’re a libtard. These returns for lesser players is proof the Leafs could easily get four 1st round picks for Matthews and three 1st round picks for Nylander. With 50% retained salary, contenders would be bidding each other up for a chance at Matthews for 6.5 AAV. It would be a gold mine of a return.
Easily another five or six by selling off the rest of the depth pieces at the deadline. Then they could acquire more 1sts by eating bad contracts like Hill and Gallagher.
Not having their own 1st sucks but letting Matthews walk as a UFA is worse. Then they’re stuck with literally nothing and would take 5 years of tanking to try and recover the lost assets. The Leafs could also easily get back young roster players instead of pure draft picks which would mitigate their tanking.
This has been explained many times already you’re just too stupid to understand it.

ParticipantThe Washington Capitals have acquired forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues for forwards Connor McMichael and Milton Gastrin and Washington’s first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2026 NHL Draft.
More evidence the Leafs would get a great return on their most valuable pieces.

ParticipantSenators trade #9 to San Jose for Eklund + 2 other guys.
Leafs would be getting a boatload for their top pieces right now.

ParticipantFlames just paid two 1st round picks for Nemec. Not their own but still. Glad the Leafs didn’t do that.
New Jersey Devils acquire a 2026 2nd-round pick (NYR), a 2027 1st-round pick (VGK), a 2028 1st-round pick (COL), and Etienne Morin from the Calgary Flames for Simon Nemec and Maxim Tsyplakov
Ottawa about to bring in Eklund from San Jose, not Hockeybuzz.

ParticipantDJ Smith going to the Oilers with Babcock.
McDavid gave the Oilers a massive discount, the best years of his career and now he’s all in for a strict asshole for a head coach. McDavid has done everything in his power to bring a Cup to Edmonton but if it doesn’t work out (Cup victory) now, he’s gone.
With so few quality goalies available, coaching alone won’t get it done in Edmonton. They need a goalie. And everybody knows it.
