ParticipantCanucks need to draft some more size on defense, relying on a small defense will get them nowhere.
Hopefully they can get some of those in the next couple drafts. They kind of dropped the ball on that so far. This draft that just happened was chock full of good large mobile defense. That was the drafts personality. The Canucks focus on forwards.
With the exception of Dupont, the 2027 draft is chock full of forwards and the D are late in the 1st round and all average to small size. I think they were foolish not to draft one of the high ranked large D at #3 and then snag one of the great C’s next season. I said it before… these guys are showing tunnel vision.

ParticipantQuote is broken… twice I lost my post.
Cootes will be invited we can assume. If he’s on the Canucks, I doubt he’ll be released. If he’s on Abby I assume they will let him go.
Like I said in the original post, Rogowski is going back to junior. College next season. No springboard to College this summer showcase.
Malholtra should get an invite. He wasnt on last WJC team… He should make it this season hopefully. If passed on yet again, there will be concerns.
Novontny for sure will be going. A couple of others maybe.

ParticipantCoaching staff named and another top 3 pick next year looking excellent
I’m worried they play themselves outside the top 3. Hearing RJ talk about “not wanting to sell off and get their teeth kicked in every night” means he wants to keep a level of competitiveness. Obviously one way or another they will win some games but they need to be careful. We cant have them missing on the 2 or 3 franchise altering picks available. If RJ starts the season with more or less last seasons roster but healthy, this could happen. A healthy Demko could steal them 15 extra points… maybe more even. Petey improving under Manny may help him as far as a trade goes…. but do they then decide to keep him? Buium could also have a break out season… he’s due…. another good season by Hronek… even better than last season…. a few other improvements and the Canucks could slip out of the top 5. Likely? Probably not… potentially? If those things happen… very much so.
Comments from RJ have me wondering just how much of a tank they are willing to do… A Dupont or Joseph addition would really help set this team up for a Stanly cup. If we already picked the highest we are going to pick in this rebuild… then they will be dropping the ball early.

ParticipantRumour is Pens keep on circling back on EP. Sure there is the NMC in the way but also why would he not waive to move on from the rebuild?
EP can be picky & probably get stuck in the rebuild til more teams listed.
If he wants to compete & play on a winner it isn’t here. Loyalty is unnecessary.
I don’t know how reliable the source of this rumor is or where it began but I heard EP nixed a trade to the Pens. Who knows… It doesn’t feel like a destination he would waive to go to even without hearing that.

ParticipantVerbeek playing hardball sure created a mess with Carlsson. Gauthier next up & not enough cap without a trade. Poor GM job for a good team on the rise.
If they don’t match… they will have 4 extra 1sts to trade for forward help. 2x 1sts for Petey and DeBrusk? That still would be less salary than Leo.
DeBrusk mentioned he wants to stay out west and I heard something about Petey’s wife and California connections. Could be a trade desirable for both teams and the players…

ParticipantThis could happen… dare to dream that this is our C depth in a couple of seasons.
1C Alexis Joseph
2C Caleb Malholtra
3C Braden Cootes
4C Brooks RogowskiBeen thinking along those ideas as well. Gonna be much pain for 2-3 years but to be expected. Getting bigger & faster & better looks to be the plan. The D is still in the infant stage but is forming up nicely. It can use more top end talent to supply the system more depth. So far so good with RJ’d 1st draft. Need to see 2-3 prospects emerge & continue with more drafts.
Tasks at hand for Manny is figure out an identity & work on the woeful PK. I don’t see much help for the PK with the current group to work with. Play disciplined hockey is a good start. North South fast hockey & puck hounding system.
The 1st round is just jam packed with good forwards bumping the D to few in the 1st and many in the 2nd. Not because the D are poor… but because of the strength of the forward group. If they take a C with the 1st, it would be wise to use both 2nds on D… and make sure you swing for the fences on at least one.

ParticipantYou are correct, it was before he signed that contract, that his play had dropped off signicantly.
I believe Lefty and Nighty were 2 of those who supported that contract.
God those 2 are idiotslol…Lefty yes… NH definitely not.
Myself, I stated that if management couldnt get a reasonable deal done, they would trade him. I was wrong on both accounts. Instead they forced EP to sign an inflated contract and refused to trade him before his NTC kicked in and here we are.
That’s almost as bad as trying to get rid of Boeser for a couple of seasons… failed because he wasn’t worth anything… then re-sign him once he was a UFA to a contract with a NTC locking him down for several more years after they finally got him off the books.
Fuck those clowns.

ParticipantThe culture of this team moving forward is huge as we all know. Hopefully he’s moved sooner than later.
Hopefully they find a way to trade Boeser as well. Time for all the flakes to go.
Demko I see as a positive in the room but he is better for the rebuild as an asset if he can get a healthy run in.
After those guys are gone, it’s pretty much the end of that era.

ParticipantYes Cootes impressed & stood out above against everyone. Still has to make a case to stick in the NHL. UFA signings left that door open. Very good chance he makes the roster.
My wants is seeing a faster style & young guys getting plenty of opportunity to play through mistakes.
Hopefully Raty gets more leash. It was pretty telling when Raty went to the worlds and was one of Finlands better players. Foote had no patience for him even when they were short multiple C’s.
