But I think a team will go overboard and offer close to 10M for Sam Bennett.

10M for Bennett is a no for me. Still have Dave Bolland / Wendel Clarkson PTSD.
Both those “hometown boys” were supposed to be what the Leafs lacked, make them tougher, knew how to win etc.
Change the DNA feels like a GM who wants to say make a major change with respect to the players on the roster but knows he can’t say that.
The Leafs / Tre are saying all the right things about Marner because they have to make an offer but Tre did say something lie Mitch has a say in all this and it’s not just the Brad show.
To me that’s setting the table so the narrative when Marner walks is not just “Leafs let him walk” and can be more “we couldn’t come to an agreement”.
They want Mitch to take some blame if/when he leaves – rightfully so IMO.
Getting rid of Reilly the 2nd pairing Dman or the former captain who is a 2nd line C on many teams in the league and a 2nd line winger or 3rd line c on any team who will take a big haircut to come back isn’t changing the DNA.

I think Servalli is a bit of an idiot with very little real inside info to be honest.
No clue who is on his 15 team list – Leafs for sure could be on there but the sudden move or willingness to move (again if true) makes me think after being so successful in Vegas he sees that Nashville may not be cup competitive for awhile and he wants to jump to a team he feels is closer to being a cup contender.
Guess we will see – you watch Florida will get him….sigh.
Read a yahoo sports article today saying Jonathan Marchessault is willing to waive his no trade to be moved. He’s got 4 more years at 5.5M per and is 34 and will be 35 come December (he’s 3 months younger than JT).
Is he a possibly 1st/2nd line RW replacement for Marner (L2 if Willy moves to L1)?
Wonder what it would cost to get him out of Nashville?

UGNo its not. I know you dont like facts but marner had 1 assist in the final 4 games against the panthers and 2 assist in the final 3 games against Ottawa.
For $11m he disappears when games count.
In 2023 he had 1 assist in the final 3 games against boston
In 2022 he had 1 assist and 1 goal in the final 3 games against Florida…he showed up for one game
In 2021 he had 2 assist in the final 3 games….technically final 4 games against tampa
In 2020 he had 1 assist in the final 3 games….technically final 4 games against Montreal

And as Whipper said trying to paint the picture that Marner was anything other than pedestrian (at best) in the final 4 games vs Florida is an absolute lie, when you layer in he was paid 10.9 M it’s a travesty. And (because we all know the deflection, goal post moving and whataboutisms are coming) the rest of the core also shit the bed in games 4-7.
That being said to post endlessly in multiple threads ripping on JT saying he was why they lost, the absolute worst because he didn’t score more all the while JT makes a whopping 100K more than Marner AND plays on L2 without the benefit of an AM and Knies with less minutes but cry over and over that they can’t afford to let Marner go is so funny it’s almost sad.
One 4 foot pass that required zero playmaking ability really where AM goes and rips one home – that same pass could have been made by anyone, and I mean anyone on the roster. Anyone puffing up their chest and trying to say the “Primary assist on the GWG” was some huge accomplishment is kidding themselves.
Marner’s GWG was a seeing eye shot off a screen he floated from the half wall, it was a ‘throw it on net and hope for good things” which worked – his teammates put up a great screen for him and it’s something Marner (and the other skilled players) needed to do more of – shoot the fucking puck through traffic and look for greasy playoff goals.
How anyone can claim ANY of the core was good enough in games 4-7 is wild.
I won’t repost that pic ;to save everyone looking at it again but who ever told Marner that looked good clearly does not have his best interests at heart.
