ParticipantAnd the Jays ahead 1-0 👍👍👍

ParticipantI was gonna say the jays being in the World Series must effect the leafs but I double checked and yeah, 93-94 is when they started 10-0 so nope, the jays being successful isn’t the problem lol

Participantit seems like this site is undergoing some kind a maintenance as there is no more edit link for your post.
Seems to flip back and forth for me
Meh, not like anything I say makes sense anyways 😀

ParticipantActually going to a Leaf never even crosses my mind. It’s absolutely not worth it what it costs all in. I could buy a pretty nice Fender Stratocaster for what they want for a couple tickets to a Tuesday night game vs. San Jose in early December. Screw that.
I’m a bassist so it’s a P bass I’d get (my favs, even had a 76’ jazz once and I still went back to the P bass) but I totally agree 👍

Oh I’ve watched it a few times too, loving it, can’t wait til tomorrow. Even my gf is a little disappointed nothing is starting til then, her weekend is one of the Friday and Monday off weekends (Saturday and Sunday next weekend, yay retirement homes lol) so she’s semi disappointed? lol she’s ready to just go to bed with her ear plugs in tomorrow night already lol

ParticipantLeafs are about to go on a 10 game winning streak. Brace yourselves, you miserable sons of bitches.
Please don’t include me in this lol, I know they’re struggling to figure out a more physical game approach right now but that’s about it. All I was talking about was Matthews’ final year 2 years from now to try and avoid listening to the whiners about what’s happening now lol

ParticipantMarner made Matthews better, it’s an obvious fact. Marner got Matthews better passes, better shots, better scoring chances and was a lot more useful on the PP. Marner missing is a huge part and it’s why Berube can’t find anybody to play with Matthews. Matthews was defensive dog shit vs. the Devils and that’s the type of game Marner helped stabilize him.
For the 100th time, if the Leafs blow up the team and trade everybody, the cap will be at 100 million by 2028. And their roster will be filled with ELCs. They could afford to overpay to keep some guys under 30 and it would be just fine.
Really? Then why couldn’t Matthews score worth a shit last year either? This is a long term injury and I’m starting to think he’s no longer the same player he once was.
As for JT, you’ll never convince me you wishful thinker. This guy had his ELC, then nothing more than a 6 year contract to make him a UFA, at which point he bolted for Toronto, signed a 7 year deal, then gave a big discount to stay for 4 more years. Keep dreaming UG, the partial NMC for the last 2 years arent for him, they’re for the leafs, in case they need his cap space for a true cup run, nothing more.

ParticipantSo the Leaf victories we can cheer for will be that our goon beats up the other teams goon and we catch a great team on a back to back after 5 games in 6 nights and get a goaltending performance for the ages in a win?
Sign me up!
lol
I still remember the terrible Leafs team in 1983 beating the powerhouse Oilers and Bunny Larocque stopping the great one on a penalty shot.
lol
Oh hell I cheer for bad leafs too for reasons like that 😂 I was only 6 in 83’ so I was watching but my detailed memory is… well… about as good as it is now lol

ParticipantMatthews is not injured and has not lost his ability to play or score. He’s just struggling without Marner. His value and his contract would still bring the Leafs a sky high return no matter what some retards think.
Same goes for a lot of other assets the Leafs have. There are teams that overpay at the deadline every, single year. Usually, it’s a team stupid like the Leafs, but there are many others. Teams that are going hard for the playoff run will give up 1st round picks and prospects. The Leafs just have to make the players available.
The Leafs have two chances left. This year (they suck and aren’t going anywhere) and next year. That’s a really small window of opportunity. But that’s all they got left. After that, they have to trade everybody and start the rebuild sooner rather than later. Matthews signed a 4 year deal for a reason. He’s done playing here if there is no chance to win. And it’s hard to blame him after what they did to this team.
wtf is with your Marner addiction? Matthews is still getting a shit ton of shots, they’re just not as good as they once were, it’s not Marner he’s missing, it’s himself.
As for overpaying it’s Ontario, so they have to. The player doesn’t give a rats ass about their cap hit, they’re just not are an individual who cares about their take home, you know, like everyone else does when it comes to their salaries? Do you care more about what your pay cheque is or what it costs the company you work for?
And yes, I’m starting to see the 2 year window as well. Unless there is some sort of unexpected big deal that occurs.

And yet those goals could still win some games against bad teams. Also, why keep him when he can get you draft picks or prospects? That’s the same mistake we got stuck with when Sundin refused to waive his NTC. Tavares won’t want to play on a lottery team at 38. He’s still going to want to win a Cup and playing on a trash lottery team doesn’t come before trying to win a Cup.You’re right about Knies probably does play a lot better with elite line mates and get you a better return but if the Leafs blow up the team and rebuild, but you’ll need him when you have new elite franchise players on ELC and he would still be under 30. And the majority of the team will still be on ELC until he’s 32 which means you can afford to overpay him to stay.
Think of how Chicago had veterans on the team before Kane and Toews showed up. It allowed them to win a Cup a lot faster than expected. I’d rather have Knies at 29 than try to find another one and wait 5 years for him to be ready. If he refuses to play on a tanking Canadian team, you trade him but if you can keep him, you keep him.
Sundin is not JT, not from TO and did not grow up loving the team. Mentally their attachment to the leafs is not equal, please get a grasp on this.
Knies is an American who will only stay under 53.53% taxation when the league has limited bonuses to 60% now to push talent back down to the southern US with a talented team. The league doesn’t want the cup won by a Canadian team, hell they don’t even really want it won by northern US teams, they want it won where they’re trying to build the league. Financially everything is groomed for teams in low taxation states. So it’s a safe bet that unless a Canadian team is a competitor don’t expect an talented American to want to play up here.

ParticipantA lot can happen in the next 2.5 years. He’s been in the playoffs every year since he’s been here (hasnt performed that great on a consistent basis), he loves it here and they could still go on a nice playoff run.
The D is already old and will get slower…we all knew that. But if they stay decent they could be moved out for picks or parts if things fall apart…1st rounders?…doubtful. But we’ll see in several years. Some peeps swore up and down that Matthews would be leaving the last time he was an FA, didnt happen, not even close. Could things change, of course, we’ll see. Him and McD will be FA’s that year, could the leafs sign both for team “friendly-ish” deals. Sure why not.
So many things could happen in the next couple of years, no sense going doom and gloom 6 games into this season worrying about the 27/28 season. The leafs have made some bad TDL trades and blew their 1st rounders for the next couple of years, that’s gonna really hurt them (as expected). So I expect a quiet deadline.
But the season has barely begun so not too worried. Heck, nowadays I dont worry about the leafs at all. 🙂For starters every player in the league says they love who they’re playing for so stop caring about that lol
And as much as I hate to say this the truth is simple. Once his contract is coming to an end he will be in his 30s, will no longer be able
To get everything as a bonus on July 1st and play for league minimum, and the leafs will have nothing really worth mentioning in development yet.I really hate to say this man but the leafs have 5 years tops before a rebuild will be needed. They’re already at a decade for this core, no upcoming good picks, prospects aren’t deep, and the core of this team will be 30+ VERY soon.
It’s going to feel like 2010 again before you know it.

Participantcan never enjoy anything, always negative. what a sad loser.
I will always remember that home run… I literally got up and cheered out loud by myself waking up my gf who had to get up at 5am for work lol. She came out and literally said “you’re lucky it’s a Toronto team succeeding in the playoffs and that you still wake up with me tired as hell to make me breakfast, but you’re done cheering right?” I said “maybe, the game isn’t quite over yet” to which she looked at me with half asleep eyes and said “I’ll put my ear plugs in, goodnight…”, then she looked back towards the bedroom and then back towards me and then said this like she had to: “my love” and then walked away 😂

ParticipantI think the tough part is that it seems like an injury, but obviously one that they can’t address and just isn’t going to get better 🙁
Maybe they themselves are still hoping that it will come around?
If so let’s hope they had the first few number of games already decided for it to do so before adjusting things, like the first 10 or dozen games. As I said if he can accept it, and he turns himself into a primary passer feeding Nylander, that line can become offensively dangerous quickly. It would take some juggling to figure out a new line 2 but oh well.
Dozzer
ParticipantNone of the above will happen. NONE
The leafs drastically overpaid for laughton…so go fuck yourself learn that just because the leafs got robbed doesnt mean the leafs will be able to rob other teams. Also, its 6/7 games in…so STFU and quit your damn whining.
Man we were talking about the final season of Matthews contract so relax a bit. The D won’t be looking pretty by then, Rielly will be 33, McCabe will be 34, and Tanev will be 37 and all 3 of them will be signed for 2 more years. There will be nothing notable in development since the leafs have nothing notable in the upcoming drafts. I can see Matthews, an American from Arizona, moving on. The team will likely be starting to look like TB is this year so my hope is that he allows a trade in his final year of his contract if so and he doesn’t burn the leafs like Sundin and Marner have.
Dozzer
ParticipantThe returns suggested for Matthews are pure fantasy. His contract is an albatross. He is not even in the ballpark of performing up to that contract.
At some point, people will wake up and realize that we just don’t see him ripping pucks past frozen goaltenders anymore. I don’t know if it is injuries or not, but he used to be the most lethal player in the league and he is nowhere near that now and hasn’t been for a couple years.
If he has lost his lethal shot fine, he can still skate, handle the puck, and pass extremely well. Berube’s should have a chat with him, tell him to pass the puck more and put Nylander on his wing. Sure he’ll still get his “in tight” goals but you get what I’m saying.
But I agree he isn’t looking like he used to yet and it’s not from a lack of chances so he’s still getting the puck fed to him just fine.
