Why all the doom and gloom. When Matthews returns from the Olympics the Leafs will have a solid 2nd line checking center to start the rebuild.

It’s looking like they need a new coach to bring him back, and I seriously mean drive the car lol

I will add that according to Tree there was little to no retention needed in the league this year. Too many sellers as well. This is a deadline that saw both Kadri and Schenn move with 3 and 2 years left on their deals. Flames retained 20% and Blues retained 0 from what I can see. So laughton being cheap wasn’t as valuable as I originally thought.

They got Laughton last year and were division champs. Why would you not make a deal in that season? It’s only a 1st and they expected two playoff runs with him. Sadly the second didn’t come to fruition.

If we look and say a 1st, 3rd (condition to 2nd), 5th for Laughton and Roy I think everyone would be relatively happy. I’d like to hope the kings make the playoffs, give up the 2nd and the leafs resign Laughton.

Overall I give the deadline a C+. I still think they should have moved Jarnkrok, Benoit, possibly Maccelli as he is RFA and due for a raise above 3.4 million. Maybe stetcher or Carlo and even possibly OEL.

I do think the Carlo trade was a bit of an overpay but again, the leafs got the coveted RHD, under contract for last playoffs and this year AND next. Pricey to pay with only top 5 protected. Hindsight is 20/20 though. If they beat the Panthers last year, are we talking the same thing?

I heard rumblings of Stolarz being moved and I suspect a goalie will be gone in the summer. Hildebeast is no longer waiver exempt next year so they likely have to move off one of the guys.

Yeah, the only repeated decent draws seemed to be d men this year, agreed. We will see what the leafs are doing to move longer contracts out this off-season, which as you know thankfully are never typically deadline moves lol. I also think it’s safe to consider the returns on these forwards were a bit low this year because the UFA group is looking a bit weak. So them and their agents likely weren’t on board with agreeing to an extension as part of a deal since the open market might pay out nicely this year. Hence why they didn’t draw all that much, since they’re nothing more than rentals for a couple of months.

thats what I was thinking, they could probably squeeze one 1st out of someone. but doubt much more.
Tre way overpaid for Carlo and Laughton, now he will sell at a big loss. if he even trades them.

    this guy is smrt
nailed it. got one 1st. not much more. sold Laughton at a loss

The only way Laughton makes any sense is the overpayment was due to him being bought to finish last year, those playoffs, and this year and what was expected to be playoffs as well. Philly also held half his contract. So it makes the price of selling him for nothing more than a third, being a half priced guy, even worse, unless he’s just a rental that they’re planning to resign in the off-season. Not my idea, I’m just wondering if they’re thinking this.

Here’s hoping the selling brings back some useful stuff. I mean I know it will be a late round pick, but at least Marner turned into a 1st.

So as things stand it’s looking like OEL, McMann, and Laughton are sitting tonight. Safe bet on who’s getting dealt for whoever offers the most by tomorrow (unless Tre’s wishes get met before that).

Here’s hoping the leafs play like they still give a shit tonight it doesn’t have to wait til after the deadline.

    When is he not?

The magic he expects to happen in the next 43 hours is hilarious.

If anyone would get a first it’s McMann and he’s not even drawing one yet or that deal would have already been made. It’s going to be a mid round pick dump with some questionable assets tops. At least I hope so, better than hanging on.

UG desperately wants to believe the playoff teams have GMs as bad as Tre.

The man has crashed both The Flames and The Leafs now. Playoff bound team GMs won’t overpay for bottom six and bottom pairing guys, there will be sellers who give up their shit for mid to late round picks coupled with questionable prospects, the end.

Dozzer wants to ignore that players like Tanner Jeannot was once traded for Cal Foote, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick, 4th round pick and 5th round pick.

By a terrible GM? Nope. Tampa Bay Lightning, multiple time Stanley Cup winner Julien BriseBois. So, sorry retard but even the best GMs make retarded trades around deadline time.

The “retarded” GM is the one in charge of the leafs UG. Let’s talk Saturday, I’m sincerely willing to bet you’ll be disappointed.

    and 50% retained.

and which Teams out there who will make that same mistake the Leafs did?
Dreger is saying that there has been no reall offer for any Leafs player so far.

A pylon like Myers just got a 2nd rounder. There are teams out there ready to make the same mistakes the Leafs made with Carlo and Laughton.

That’s because the GM of the leafs, who is terrible, and builds non-playoff teams, will make horrible payments.

Playoff team GMs won’t pay like a dipshit and the dipshits in the league are after pics currently, not over age leaf players.

Take the fucking late picks and start the rebuild.
