No William, the Stanley Cup isn’t a participation award. You don’t win it just because it’s your turn. Maybe instead of sipping on a Negroni in Milan, you should spend more time working your ass off in the gym and training to actually earn a Stanley Cup instead of thinking it’s just going to fall into your lap one day because it’s “about time”.
It would be really interesting to see what the Leafs could get for Nylander, Matthews, Rielly etc. and just blow the team apart. It could certainly fast track a rebuild if the Leafs could acquire half a dozen top tier prospects and/or 1st round picks. Unfortunately, until they have their own 1st round pick, blowing up the team and tanking isn’t an option. But they can go back to tanking in 2028 and if the return on Matthews + Nylander etc. is big enough, they could have a completely different base of players under the age of 25 (including retaining Knies and Cowan).
