Leafs getting Marchand?!?!?!? Seems like an overpay, but…I heard 4 x $9m….absolutely horrible imo. Marchand played great in Florida because he was on the 3rd line with other good players, facing lesser comp. Here he will be 2nd or top line facing stiffer comp.
Also, they moved away from marner’s 10.9 or soon to be 13 to spend 9m of it on a 36 year old? WTF.Horrible if true.

You really think this signing puts the Habs in a better place than the Leafs? I don’t, not right now anyway.As always time will tell.
I dont yet know whats going the other way to the Islanders…but ya…this is a great add.
Still so early (not even July 1st)…but Im Shania’ing……the leafs dont impress me much.
Cant wait to listen to the media splurge all over Montreal all season…..and stupid florida.
Gross.(Im being dramatic with the “catapult” thing….but I do think this drastically improves the habs)

oh I know that, but another reason for me to question Tre moves.Yup his and Dubas’ moves. Dubas kinda screwed Tre with not much in the cupboard and Tre moved out what little we had for depth players.
I really dont know if Tre can properly “change” the DNA of the leafs. Overpaying for Marchand or Bennett is simply not the answer….specially Marchand. I dont want to see him on the leafs, as he wont be utilized as successfully as he was in Florida. In florida he was a 3rd liner playing with other really good 3rd liners against weaker lines. In Toronto, they’ll have him on the 2nd or top line….rendering him much less effective.

25yo top pair rhd ..good defense.The leafs have no trade stock, anything they had was moved for a 4th dman and 4th line center.
Besides, I cant see Islanders moving their top Dman to Toronto even if TO had the assets.Nurse could be on the move as well.

peterka just got 5 x 7.7 ..so I guess around that thenThere is no world where knies should get more than Peterka on a 5 year deal, if so than Tre needs to be removed.
Knies had one 50+ pt season with 29 goals
Peterka has had two, along with two seasons of 27 and 28 goals WITHOUT playing with Matthews.
Knies should get 5 x 7m max.
