I think Fifty meant that we’d all take a game 7 against Florida in this series. The current champs. I don’t think he meant it was good enough or that if they lose he’s okay with it or that fans should be okay with it. Just that if at the start of the series someone guaranteed a game 7 and you never saw the other games, he’d take it which is a pretty good opportunity for the leafs to move forward.Again, I think he wasn’t giving a participation ribbon for anything just talking about this series only.
That wasnt directed at fifty, just a vent in general.
Leafs played well last night, Woll was great from what I saw.
But they need to do it again…..and probably again a few more times (other series obviously). As I’ve said before Marner and Matthews have a chance to change their narrative Sunday and beyond (if they make it).
Almost every year, some team beats the former champs…leafs need to be the team this year.Fakepartofme

If you asked before the series would you take a game 7, most of us would have said yes. What an opportunity this isNo, game 7 isnt good enough with this team.
Its deep in round 3 or 4 or its just anorher wasted year.
Im tired of the excuses and fans being happy with this team simply showing up for certain games. Its been 9 years, time to win several rounds. Enough with the 1st/2nd round participation ribbons. Beat a good team, every year its “tampas too good, bostons too good, Florida is too good”. Time for the leafs to be too goodFakepartofme

Lose: Rielly
~Underhill14You lost me at step 1. How are you going to move an overpaid, underperforming, trade protected, contracted for the next decade defenseman?!?
The same was said about Phaneuf and so many other players.
Morgan can be moved, you just wont get much for him
Ship him to vancouver or anywhere out west for a 2nd.
He’s still a 40 pt dman with only 5 years left.
Or take a shorter term meh contract.Pretty much any contract can be moved in todays NHL. Some GM will think their situation will improve the players

Lose: Rielly, Marner, 75% of Tavares cap hit, Robertson, Holmberg, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Reaves = ~ $33MAcquire: Jeannott, Mantha, Boesner, Bennett, Provorov and pry McTavish out of Anaheim for future 2C = $34M
Adjust top 6 wings, balance out the bottom 6 and one add to the D then go for the Cup for realsies.
Knies, Matthews, Nylander
Tavares, Bennett, Boesner
Domi, McTavish, Mantha
Lorentz, Laughton, JeanottMcCabe, Tanev
Provorov, Carlo
Benoit, OELStoli
WollCap works. Get (frank)ed Marner….and your $14M. :yuck:
Why in the hell would bennett leave Florida to play for the leafs? Why? Unless the leafs grossly overpay….and then why would you want to do that?
Where are the leafs getting the assets to trade for any of the players you mentioned?Fakepartofme

Oiler fan saying MatthewsIt’s been a rare occurrence that I ever liked a Leaf player and followed them. Respected them as players yes, but Matthews might be the first I liked.
Im assuming you havent watched his playoff performances.

ParticipantDo you think there was an offer on the table for Marner to sign? If anything, I’d imagine MLSE was waiting to see how the playoffs went before giving him all the money x8 and trade protection.
Yup, you could be right…maybe MLSE held off. But from what Ive heard on the radio etc, if marner came with a reasonable offer to sign the leafs would have done it. Its just that it seemed they were too far apart initially.

My uneducated guess is that management asking him to waive his NTC changed everything – the organization has no loyalty to him, so why should he feel any loyalty to MLSE?He’s gone.
Meh, its a business, marner could have signed at anytime during the year. He chose not to.
Managements mistake was not waiting until the deal with the Canes was 100% confirmed, they jumped the gun.
Either way, Marner can take his 90+ reg season points and fack off.Unless he shows up and propels the leafs to two more wins in this series.
Either way, I wont be watching tonight.Fakepartofme

There is talk that Marner has already decided to leave and Matthews is injured and that explains their poor play. Who knows whether either is true. The problem with those theories is that they ignore the absymal playoff performance of those two for many years now.I would not have believed Marner would walk for nothing, until recently. It would surprise no one if he decided he was done with the circus and the failure and wanted a new start.
I wouldn’t be disappointed to see them both gone and Rielly. I don’t really care about how good the team is at this point. I am sick of the annual slap in the face to the fans.
I have no doubt Matthews is injured, but he usually his come playoff games, or he’s sick or some other excuse.
The leafs would have to rebuild on the fly, they coudlnt tank for a year cause our garbage gm’s keep “trying to go for it” with the same core and now we dont have any first for the next decade or so lol (until 2028.Fakepartofme

ParticipantUntil I hear otherwise, I strongly believe that Matthews is hurt.
Great. Every playoffs he’s injured or sick or some excuse. Im sure he is hurt, but he’s never stepped up in big playoff games.

This is a hard one for me. (that’s what she said)It’s difficult to narrow it down to just one person, so I’ll start with a short list.
1) Wendel Clark. This guy is the stereotype of the kind of player you want on your team. Tough as nails. Can start lawnmowers. Could light the red lamp. Leadership. Also played for my Lightning for part of one glorious season.
2) Dougie Gilmour. Everything I said about Clark mostly applies to Gilmour as well. Ok, he wasn’t a beast like Clark, but nobody ever questions his toughness or compete level. One of the greatest Leafs centers of the modern era.
3) Darcy Tucker. Love this guy (no homo). Shit-talking, lawnmower starting, agitator and could score goals. 1000% compete level. Also played for the Lightning.
4) Phil The Thrill Kessel. Goals. Hotdogs. You can’t not like this guy. In fact, hire him and put him in charge of the power play.
There are more, but these four top my list.
If I had to narrow that down further, I’d pick Clark.
I liked Tucker for the first several years but then turned into a drama queen, embellishing everything that happened to him. Got annoying

ParticipantI wont be watching the game but Marner and matthews have an opportunity to change the narrative around them.
If the leafs lose, get rid of both. -
