I got banned for replying to Ek in his thread – after Ek said that my comment was “a good point.”

And I reached out to Ek and Kevin Allan – neither had the courtesy to reply to me.

It looks, feels and smells like it is days away from disappearing.
Ya your ban seems crazy and uncalled for sure, based on the details you’ve provided. And its weird that it occurred to others within the same short timeframe…maybe the site was hacked? Dunno. Cause that never seemed to have occurred in the past…it was mods that were handing out bans…sometimes for personal reasons.
Honestly, I wouldnt expect Ek to reply to anyone based on ban….Im sure he would have alot to reply to.

but people have been saying for years that HB is days away from collaspe and it never occurs. Unless they miss their server bills.
So far, neither site is perfect…..and I dont anticipate either will be.

13 mil for Marner or is money better spent signing Bennett say 8-9mil (I know crazy money) and one of these players
    Tanner Jeannot
    Pius Suter
    Radek Faksa
    Brandon Tanev
    Yanni Gourde

Leafs have to beef up the bottom 6..they cant hang with Florida at all
I agree, but I think bennett cost closer to 10m per to get him to Toronto…on a 7 year deal
It may be wiser or more cap friendly to sign Nelson or Granlund or Duchene as a 2nd/3rd line center on a shorter cheaper deal and then try to sign TWO of the players you mentioned?
I think Tanev is must either way.
They will also need another 2nd/3rd line (maybe JT on the cheap) a top 6 winger (I mentioned P Kane a while ago) and a 4-6 dman.

I don’t like it either, but it’s a small price to pay not to listen to the wild conspiracy-laden political diatribes that hijack threads and go on for pages and pages and pages. Also the random bans for no reason. Site admin who doesn’t know how to use a spellchecker, less yet operate the admin interface of a 30-year old piece of forum abandonware.

The quote thing is a PITA, but I can live with it and I hope they fix it.

It hasnt been that bad at the other site lately….and the person responsible for most of the conspiracy-laden political diatribe is now here as well….and already started.
As for the random bans…..dunno..never came across any myself…but I rarely go into non leafs blogs or call out EK in any blog.

The Cap needs to get fixed.

Rantanen’s 12M in Dallas equates to about $15.75 in Canada. Yes, RCA’s may soften the tax blow (although the player would have to take residency in the US when they retire, they’d have to park 50% of their income into the RCA during their career ….And, RCA’s are under legal attack by CRA right now) but if I’m a high earning player there’s so many reasons to head south.

Canadian kids/residents have it the worst from a tax perspective. Matthews, Knies ..can use US residency and bonuses to come out nicely but JT, MM ..can’t escape.

At smaller salaries ..no biggy. But at 10M+ the tax gap has become waayyyyyy too big a difference. After tax dollars probably creates more problems then it solves but surely they can move to a luxery tax or have some kind of flat tax discount (5%) or whatever.

Canadian teams, the Rangers, and some others are at a ~15% disadvantage on the Cap. Imagine these teams having even 5% ($5M) back in the pot. That’s another middle six forward or top 4 dman. Or reverse that, imagine Florida without the ability to add Jones and Marchand b/c they don’t have the cap space.

If you’re a Canadian than a $12M contract is $16.6m in Cdn funds.

Ya, I find Seravelli pretty ‘dramatic’ so I think that’s likely more opinion then fact BUT, I agree …Leafs need an alpha or two in the mix.

Even Florida has Barkov and Reinhart (people have doubted both have “heart” over their careers) but they surround them with Bennett and Tkachuck types.

    Gotta have the right mix.

Poor Tree had about 6 weeks on the job before Marner’s NMC kicked in so this is a Dubas reality. Although Tree did lock in Nylander when, in theory, he could have moved on from him instead. I know 88 had a very productive year …but remember how he played from October-January last season? He hounded the puck every shift …he was arguably the best player in the NHL for long stretches of time …we haven’t seen that since he autographed that very expensive paperwork.

    Change is needed.

I agree he is dramatic at times, but I have no doubt the leafs were gauging interest in MArner and I have no doubt our core 3 arent as driven as other stars around the league.

I wish I gave a shit about any of the four remaining teams.

Just wanna see this shit season end and get to the draft day deals.

The oilers are flying, hoping they win it all. Get McDavid his cup.

Frank Seravelli on Sportsnet this morning said the leafs have been gauging interest in marner with other teams since last summer. No team wanted to a trade unless it came with an extension. Apparently, leafs were looking for a deal they liked and then were going to approach marner. He also said that he has spoken with several players who have been in the “orbit” (his word) of the core 3 and in the “orbit” of other top players in the league and he was told that the core 3 just dont work hard enough, seem complacent and dont seem to want it as much as others. That seems to fly considering what we’ve seen the past several years.

We need Cush29 and Aaron to moderate this place like they did in the past.

Or anyone. This place is already polluted with nonsense at times. Get him out.

More nonsense from the guy who doesnt know what communism is eh.
For the right price, JT can still be a 50pt 2nd line center or shift over to wing or the 3rd line center role.

The ol’ Tavares doesnt help this win nonsense……it was his goal that got the leafs to the 2nd for the first time in decades.
    But ok.

Apparently Shanahan nixed the below deal of dubas’.

    To Toronto:
    Brandon Hagel
    Marc-André Fleury (extended)

    To Chicago:
    Matthew Knies (rights)
    Petr Mrázek
    2022 Toronto 1st (top 10 protected) (Rinzel)
2023 Toronto 1st (top 10 protected) (Cowan. Nadeau?

You cannot possibly be serious. Florida didn’t win the division because Barkov and Tkachuk were injured, Ekblad was suspended for 1/4 of the season, and, quite frankly, they probably coasted for most of the season knowing they could just turn it on at any point in the playoffs.

The Leafs didn’t choke, Florida just pounded them into oblivion like they did to Tampa, like they’re doing to Carolina, and like they’ll do to whoever comes out of the West.

I know its an excuse leafers like to use…”oh lord, florida oh so tough….such a superpower”. Yes, great team. The Leafs had a 2- 0 series and a 3-1 lead in the 3rd game, the series went 7 games
So no, they didnt pound the leafs into oblivion…..not even close. Had they “pounded the leafs into oblivion”, the series would have been over in 4 games….if anything, they are pounding the canes into oblivion…but the canes have a history of being swept in the 3rd round. The leaf CHOKED. Its that simple. Ya sure they choked against a great team…but they had a 2-0 series lead and 3-1 lead in the 3rd game.
    They choked.
    Again

Florida is head and shoulders above just about every team in the league. The Leafs need major upgrades to compete on that level, but there really isn’t much out there in this year’s UFA class that is going to move the needle enough. Marner is gone, but paying him $14M wasn’t going to be the answer either. Next year is likely going to be a step backwards, but I’m curious to see what Tre cooks up.

    But they aren’t.
Didnt win the division and had the leafs not choked again, they’d be playing the canes.
