ParticipantLeafs have $13m in cap and desparately need to improv their bottom 6.
Wasting $8m – 9m on Marchand is simply not a good idea and honestly doesnt move the needle much come playoff time as it would take cap away from getting quality bottom 6 players.
Sign P Kane if you can, get some quality players for the bottom 6 on short term deals. Save most of the cap for next off seasonFakepartofme
ParticipantSorry but marchand on the top line just isnt a good idea, the only reason he was effective with the panthers was because he was on the 3rd line.
$6m for marchand or he can piss off. Leafs will be screwed if they sign him for anything more than that…..he’s 37 for crying out loud.
I hope to hell marchand is not a leaf.Id be fine with Marchand also, I dont care so much now about where he plays. its about lining up for the playoffs. His line played against tough matchups wasnt just softies.
Leafs just need to build out 3 lines that are tough to play against.
37 years old. Hes not the answer for $8 – $9m and hes simply not a top/2nd line player on a playoff team that wants to win the cup (sure he could fill in on the 2nd, but its not the best place for him).
Just another player the leafs will miscast.Fakepartofme
ParticipantYes, so far he is almost in the same category, but I still have some hopes for him,
because of injures.
He is the Leafs first line center, without him this team
has no chance to compete. This is just rationalizing giving Matthews a free pass. The injury narrative is constant and tired. Whenever he doesn’t produce, he is magically “injured”, so he is excused.
The truth about Matthews is that he *should* be a top-3 player in this league. He has the talent. We have all seen it. The reality is that nobody on the Leafs has underperformed their talent, or their salary, in the playoffs more than he has.
This.

ParticipantHague trade brings in Sissons (another bottom 6C). Roy to Toronto seems more likely.
Vegas will have to trim more salary to get marner under the cap, even at $12 x 4

ParticipantOk, I’m coming around on signing Marchand. Leafs need to bump Kampf and Jarnkrok off the ship after bonus day and if they do they’ll have about 19M to spend on a top 6 FWD and 4 bottom 6 replacements. Nab Roy as one of the pieces and you’ve still got 16M to spend. Sign Marchand to bigger money, shorter term (b/c they really don’t need to back end it and lower the AAV). Spend some money on good 1 yr deals on the 4th line.
If the dust settles this week and the lineup looks like …
Marchand-Matthews-Nylander
Knies-Tavares-McMann
Domi-Laughton-Roy
3 Heavy forechecking types…….I’m good. Maybe drop Laughton down a line and spend on another good 3rd liner.

Participantlumping Marner with JT contract to make it look better is amazing. The entire discount is from JT, so that makes marner look better. thats so on brand fur dummies
So true.
just over $4m for a player that didnt play on the top line with a top center or marner and was still just under a ppg (0.9866) for the reg season and 0.53ppg in the playoffs is a pretty good deal. You werent going to get any player like that for that cost on the open market.
Only an idiot would hate it.Fakepartofme
ParticipantAccording to the reliable “some guy on X”, LA and the Ducks also interested. Seems like the only way any value would be coming back.
There is no chance he’s going to the hellscape that is California when the benefits of living and playing in Vegas are far better.
From a moron whos probably never been to cali.

There is talk amongst league executives that Leafs have asked for Nicolas Roy and Nicolas Hague in return. It will be interesting to see if this happens.Fuck ya, Hague is a Toronto boy and 6’6″ 230lbs, lets goooo!
So then Leafs go with
Knies, Matthews, P. Kane
Marchand, Tavares, Nylander
Domi, Roy, B. Tanev
Jeannot, Laughton, LorentzMcCabe, Tanev
Hague, Carlo
Benoit, OELBOOM! Thank you and fuck you Marner.
Forget marchand. What a waste of money he would be on the leafs.
Hes effective as a 3rd liner on a mi e with other good third liners. On the leafs, he’d play second line against tougher comp and wouldnt be as effective.
Use the $8-9m on something else.Fakepartofme
