Flyers are the next Florida. All the pieces are in place to make it happen. With their excellent management team only a matter of when not if.

The Flyers have two surpluses, draft picks and enough cap space to sign a Top 4 dman and a goalie this off season. They have an upside even if you don’t want to see it.

It was mostly drafting made them both contenders. Yes, the Tkachuk trade helped put Florida over the top, but outside of said trade, the moves both teams made were complimentary players that added depth needed to contend. The Flyers are nowhere near that point.

You mean like stealing Bennett and Reinhart as well as Tkachuk? Yes, they made great trades too. The #1 and #2 overall picks still with them, Barkov and Ekblad, have been great. Lundell is a key contributor. Huberdeau has had two great seasons out of 13. The Flyers had two #2 overalls the last several years and got JVR and Patrick out of it. FLA’s drafting, overall, has not been as fantastic as you make it out to be. They were built with shrewd acquisitions.

Are you seriously implying the current Philadelphia Flyers are in the same position as the Panthers and Oilers?

It’s nice that they made those moves, but they were already contenders.

The moves FLA and EDM made are what made them contenders.

you look how they were constructed. are you that blind to see how those cores was assembled? flyers nowhere close to either team in how they were assembled. you live in fantasyland.

keep signing mid level dreck will keep the flyers exactly where they are.

Edmonton has only been a top team the last four years. Florida has only been a top team the last four years. Edmonton absolutely built more through the draft. EDM has two Dmen they drafted, FLA only one. They drafted Ekblad, traded for Jones and the rest are free agents. The Flyers have draft picks to build up the forwards.

No one close in the next 5 years. They have one D prospect who projects to be an NHL player. One. Outside of Bonk they have nothing but potential bottom pair guys, if they even pan out.

You need to take a closer look at how the current top teams were actually constructed, not how Hextall and Fletcher deconstructed the Flyers.

Tired of wasting money on mid level guys. if going to over pay get top end at this point. ‘Now top end wont want to come here is the problem without a big overpay. flyers may not have much choice to get ekblad (as an example) for 7 years 9-10 million per.

Ceci was a Top 4 guy for a team that went to the conference finals. Ekblad won’t sign here. That’s pure fantasy. Take a closer look at how the current top teams were actually constructed, not how Hextall and Fletcher deconstructed the Flyers.

How is what I posted propping him up as a superstar?

He is a young vet who may not want a long term deal if he sees no path to contention. In that case he may want a short term deal. Then move on if he doesn’t like what he sees.

They have no one close to supplanting him.

Why would the Flyers want to sign York to a long term deal?

No one close this coming year and likely next. Which is why you sign him . . . to a bridge deal.

How on earth you draw the conclusion I am making him sound like a superstar is very odd

    Because you wrote this:

York would want a bridge. Test the coaching waters out first. See how the team is constructed in the next few years.

I prefer the Flyers sign York to a bridge deal. I don’t necessarily think he’s a guy you can literally build your D around. If he is around for years to come, I would hope somebody comes in and supplants him on the top pair. Again, they have no D prospects that will help this year. Maybe a couple will get a look due to injury.

Maybe it’s me though seems you said let him walk.

Not any time soon. He’s a top pairing guy here on a defense that needs an upgrade badly. You’re making it sound like he’s some superstar who is in a position to see how the new coaching staff does and see how management builds the team the next couple or more years. It’s not like he’s another Makar. He’s not a top pairing guy on, I would say, most teams in the league.

Why would you let him walk? That makes no sense at all.

I said it’s not going to happen soon but I’d like to see the Flyers build a Cup winning capable defense. York is getting close, experience wise, to being what he is as an NHL player. I hope he surprises me and takes a big step up this year. If he doesn’t, they need to upgrade the slot. That doesn’t necessarily mean letting him walk, that’s why I said hopefully. I don’t see him topping out as a top pairing Dman on a legitimate Cup contender. Sanheim, on the other hand, I do.
