I do like the kid a lot and can see potential for sure. Tom Willander had 5 goals and 21 points on a very bad team in his first year so the numbers are decent but not jumping out at me yet
I agree with you that they need to be cautious, they don’t need another bad contract on their books, although I think Petey is the only bad one now and with an ever-increasing salary cap it won’t look bad even as soon as the end of this year…potentially.
I would pump the brakes a little. I like the Kid but he has 6 goals 20 pts in two years. We have signed enough anchor contracts in the past and we don’t need to keep adding to the pile.
Canadian teams are going to be having a huge disadvantage with the salary cap and the 40% differential in the dollar. Add to that the cost of living. I don’t see a Canadian team having huge success for many year. Elite players wanting to head to the tax free states like Fla Texas.
Buium will probably want to move on in five years.

The political shit-show Canada and the Canadian dollar is right now with all the far-left liberal and socialist people and policies, aside, Buium is an extremely talented kid, and he’s only 20 years old. They’ve got something special with this kid. Is he in the elite Quinn Hughes level of player, no, but he had 14 points in 31 games in Minnesota (a good team) as a 19 year old defenseman, that’s not something to scoff at. Yeah, he’s got holes in his game but his skill level and ceiling are extremely high. As a 17 year old in NCAA Div I for Denver, who won the National Championship, he was third in league scoring as a defenseman, again, that’s not something the Canucks have had in their system ever, I don’t think.
You’d hope this won’t happen, but the way players are entitled these days. Is it only a matter of time before Zeev want’s to play in the USA? Nothing you can do about the new trend, hopefully he turns into a top pair D and if that’s the case trade him for a boatload of assets like they did with Quit Hughes.
When Buium’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Israel in 1999 they settle and still remain in San Diego, where Zeev was born, so being a West Coast kid might be favorable for the Canucks in terms of him wanting to remain in Vancouver. If he turns into something special and he wants to go back to the U.S. then just get a good return for him, I mean, the Canucks got an absolute haul for Quinn Hughes.
What do you guys think is going to happen with the Buium contract? If they were willing to give him big bucks and lock him down for 8 years, I think it would have been done by now. This is a tough one. Has he shown enough for that? Is it too risky to give him shorter term opening the door for a much bigger pay day and closer to UFA? Is it best to wait out the most of or all of the season to get a better idea?
He has a ton of skill and is only 20. His age is a valid excuse for and defensive flaws we’ve seen to a certain degree… then there was how bad the team was. He has lots of time to work on the D side of the game and things should be more stable moving forward.
What do you think is a fair contract for Zeev?
Considering this kid is only 20 years old, with miles of offensive upside and an ever-increasing salary cap, I’d get him signed in the 9.5 million range over eight years. Yeah he’s got some work to do on this game but if they have enough foresight to build a young team and let them grow together he’s a top priority!!
Rossi’s gonna score 60 points this year and Petey’s gonna score 80, ruining our chances at a first overall pick because Aquilini will get a massive chub and think the Canucks are ready to compete for the playoff cash.
I would say Rossi has a better chance of “staying healthy” than EP40.
I hope he’s in shape and he starts out hot offensively, if he puts up good numbers by Christmas the Canucks can do the old “pump & dump” that sausage boy loves so much.
He just needs to stay healthy… that’s a big ask for him.
He’s only had one injury in his career but it plagued him all year last year, the broken foot from a blocked shot.
Rossi is a halfling and will be traded this season or next. Don’t get too attached to him.
I don’t generally like smaller players, or people, but Rossi is an extremely talented kid. I hope he puts up good numbers this year now that his foot is fully healed.
