As much as I hate to say this, but Edmonton not scoring does not get any excuse. Even when Hyman is done you still have enough character to open up the ice for McDavid and Draisaitl, and if those two aren’t scoring the problem is coaching.

10 players are non stop physical bombs while 2 players are offensive. Why is that not being attempted at this point?

Sounds familiar? We saw this in round 2. Oh, for one of those breakaways going in during overtime in Game 3. Reminds me of Matt Frattin in Game 7 against Boston in the Phaneuf/Kessel years. If he scores to make it a 4 goal lead, the Leafs probably win that series and the roster doesn’t get deconstructed.

this is how we quote here right? lol

So, McDavid needs to come alive. The end.

Yeah it needs to be worked out. I’m not sure that they’ve had an official rollout yet, but I read that they just got the go ahead for advertising, so maybe some changes are in the works.

Looks like Edmonton is stone cold dead. Their goaltending has been their undoing for 4 years now, but they don’t seem to fix it. By the time they do, their window will have passed. McDavid’s next contract is a couple of year out and he may decide to leave, if they don’t address their problems in net. Leafs could help them, but they better be ready to anti up and give a top prospect or a first for someone like Stolarz. I think that Woll can carry the ball, for the Leafs. The Leafs seem to have a lot of goaltending prospects coming through the system right now. You have to give something to get something.

Fonts need to be a bit bigger. I know you can fix this yourself, but once you leave the site, you have to reset them again. Looking forward to the transition in the fall. Right now, many fanbases are in summer mode. The Leafs thread seems to be growing, but we need to see the smaller market teams come on board.

Nylander disappeared because he was on a line with Tavares and Holmberg most of the time. Leafs need to also consider moving McMann. Not fast enough for playoff hockey. As a 20 goal scorer with size, he could get you a decent prospect or a second rounder. Guys like McMann are fairly easy to find. Getting prospects is a must, with having no first rounders for 3 years. Time to toughen up and get ready for war in the playoffs. Leafs only have a 2 year window to make it to the finals, before the young and up and coming teams in the Atlantic arrive.

I’m guessing that this series is over. Florida wants it in their home building. Florida is the most aggressive and their team toughness is 2nd to none. Edmonton is really good, but their goaltending is their downfall Until they have a major upgrade, the same results will occur. Florida will probably fall back next year, after 3 year to the finals and the Cap becoming an issue.

I really haven’t back to the other site since my ban was implemented

It’s a dead issue with me as well. Lets help Mike and the Metz get this site running smoothly.

He’s going to Carolina. He gets to be a nobody on a Euroteam and play his two playoff rounds and then walk on the beach. It’ll be his retirement contract. Leafs should really speak to all teams that will listen about the cost of getting his rights so Marner can have his 8th year. Maybe a late first or a top prospect gets it done.

For a bit more cap flexibility, might be a good idea to bridge Knies.
go 2 or 3 years now would allow them to add 1 more decent bottom 6

That’s like throwing a Molotov Cocktail in a couple of years. Do you really want him to leave as a UFA? Or an offer-sheet this year? Pay him now at $7M for 8 years, or pay him $11M in 2 years. Better to have the lesser cap hit in year’s 3 through 8.

Further to my lament, why can’t the Leafs get the best and brightest scouts to find those diamonds in the rough? They make more profit than any other NHL team, so they can afford to have the best scouting staff in the NHL. It doesn’t count against the Cap, just like coaches. Teams like Florida, Tampa, LA, plus others always seem to out-draft the Leafs. This shouldn’t be happening. When will this become a real priority, instead of lip service?

Better to try to trade Marner’s rights, or let him walk. Add two players to the top 6 with that money. Make sure to get Knies signed and let Tavares walk, if he wants more than $5M on a one year deal.

On the Oilers, if I’m the Leafs, I send out feelers to them regarding acquiring one of our goaltenders. Make it a steep price, like Bouchard, or a 1st and a prospect. Leafs seem to have a lot of goaltenders, moving through their system right now. Giving up Stolarz or Woll could net a top flight player. Edmonton is desperate right now to find a decent goaltender that isn’t going to cost them $5M per season.

That remains to be said. If Marner wants $13.5M, it’s way too much. You can’t win with this playoff no show at that pay grade. 9 years of this! You wanna make it 10? It’s what you get if you don’t do something about the Cap with this player. He has not won us Jack Sh!t since he’s come to Toronto. No leadership skills, no grit. But he wants more than McDavid. I call Bullsh!t on this mini mercenary.

Leafs need a banger and a player that can shoot the puck from the point. Rielly isn’t it, but Ekblad is. Tavares is also a huge liability that needs to be addressed.

This gives the Leafs the ability to deploy 3 sets of evenly LHD/RHD pairs that can each play 20 min each. Ideally, it would be nice if the Leafs had a guy like Seth Jones (Leafs were too stupid to acquire him) or some other minute munching top pair D. But unfortunately, those guys are A) not available and B) not within the budget.

However, they could grab Aaron Ekblad as a UFA. If Rielly was moved for picks or prospects, that cash could go straight to Ekblad and solidify the right side of the defense. Leafs need to dispose of both Marner and Rielly. Replace with picks to restock the cupboard. Brock Boeser, and Nikolaj Ehlers could be had for the price of Marner’s contract. You solidify the top 6 and the defense is stronger. Is it enough to win the Atlantic? Maybe. Some time soon, the drain of talent from Florida will finally take them out. Leafs have 2 years to get it done, before the younger teams like Ottawa, Montreal, and Detroit come knocking.

They can use stats all they want, but just points and goals isn’t an indicator of the worth of the marquee stars on the Leafs. McDavid is worth it. Matthews, not so sure. Marner, definitely not. The Leafs are really down to their last couple of year of having an open window to win a Championship. Once their core players hit 30, their skill will wane. Quick thinking by management could mitigate what is to come. They must find a way to move a core piece, receiving what they need to succeed in the playoffs. The current structure does not work and someone needs to be sacrificed for the benefit of moving forward. The young Turks from Ottawa, Montreal, Buffalo and Detroit will soon enough surface as playoff teams, meaning time is short to make this work. Does Leafs management have the stomach to take this issue on this season?

Lorentz and Laughton can get another chance (as rotational players) but Holmberg is another dog shitter. If this is the Leafs 4th line, expect 0 goals and more playoff failure.

I agree with this sentiment. Holmberg is a punching bag and not a playoff performer. I didn’t mind Lorentz and Laughton. They did their job. The big boys didn’t. Robertson is a player that some teams might see as a possible player that they can reclaim. Use him for either a pick, or as a bargaining chip in a bigger trade. Still think that Boeser is an option, if Marner walks. A different type of player, but has been a decent point producer in the past.
