Well my Rangers shit the bed vs the Sens which is pathetic, just like the Rangers have been most of the season, nearly 10 points out of a playoff spot time to trade expiring contracts or guys who want to be moved / should be moved and recoup some draft picks etc.
That being said big game for you guys tonight when your Leafs take on the Vegas Golden Showers and that wimp boy who took his ball and walked away when they wouldn’t pay him like a top line centre. In my outsider opinion it was for the better for your franchise although I’m sure they wanted him to stay but he clearly decided he was gone some time ago. It’s clear as day he’s not a top line center, he’s a highly skilled winger but way too cute and super soft – especially come playoff time. I think Vegas is going to regret the $ and term they paid him, he hasn’t been a real game changer for them in the regular season and isn’t that supposed to be when he shines?
God knows the Leafs have had to play some of the hardest 1st and 2nd round teams but it’s been shown they have enough of the high skill but soft / not enough grit type of players already as has been seen year over year come playoffs. With or without Tanev, this team is terrible. They should trade Tanev, OEL, McCabe; literally everybody over 25 with any value.
I see some saying they should blow it up (ok one who keeps preaching it) but as an outsider to me trading Matthews would be a huge mistake that would come back to bite this team in the backside. Same for Nylander, Robertson seems like something you could trade & get something back for same with some of the D if you are throwing in the towel on this season.
The intelligent Leafs fans know this team is done for and should be blown up and rebuilt.
You guys have Matthews, Nylander, Knies + Tavares on a killer team friendly contract, how many teams would love to have all that to build around?
Matthews and Nylander are significantly more valuable to be traded away to accelerate the rebuild. Having them score goals and points on a losing team does nothing for this franchise today and the longer they wait for them to march to free agency, the worse it is for their value, as we saw with the retarded handling of Marner. Tavares’ contract “value” is worthless because the team sucks and he’s actually fallen off a cliff since his hot start. He’s useless to the Leafs in the playoffs and his cap savings did nothing to help the team other than be last in the division for most of the year because he can’t play two-way hockey. Scoring 2 goals and 4 points but losing 5-4 is still losing hockey, no matter how many goals and points you score.
Your goaltending doesn’t seem to be the issue, in fact Toronto seems deep in goaltending from my POV, despite injuries.
Goaltending is a big issue because the goalies, at times, have sucked but more importantly, have been off the ice due to injuries and other problems. The Leafs can’t build around or rely upon goalies that miss half the season on a regular basis. Effectively, the Leafs have a collection of unreliable back-up goalies and do not have a proven, dependable starter.

I have been lurking here for quite some time as a long time HB user looking for a new place to see some great hockey talk.
I thought this place would be better than Hockey Buzz which is totally fucked now (not that it wasn’t before but at least there was SOME moderation there before the big ‘upgrade’ that was a steaming pile of dog shit) but sadly I was wrong this place feels like it’s worse that HB in some ways.
