ParticipantFuck Buffalo. Hated them since 1999. The fans are good but fuck that franchise. Nice jerseys though.
Fuck Montreal too. Hope Carolina steamrolls either one.
Carolina, the team, plays great hockey. Their fans barely exist and even leave the building half empty in double OT of a playoff game. But Brind’Amour runs a great team. They deserve it.

ParticipantGoal 1 he overplayed the player behind the goal line and left the eventual goal scorer wide open right in front of the net.
Your analysis is that of a retard.
Goal #1 was not his fault. Hutton and Korczak are the bottom pair D. They play 12 and 10 minutes per game for a reason. They made a mess of the dump in, Hutton went to the wall as Korczak played a reverse poorly leaving Marner stuck trying to cover between the puck carrier behind the net and an open man in front. Hutton was along the boards instead of in front of the net and Stone was caught between two guys on the backcheck.
Goal 2 coasting on the back check but not all his fault.
Goal #2, he was the furthest player from his own net, forechecking deep into the Anaheim zone. The fact that he even got back into the picture is a miracle. Clearly the fault on the 2nd goal was mostly Rasmus Andersson doing his best impression of Morgan Rielly’s puck watching. Doesn’t cover the man. Doesn’t get the puck. Just going in circles. Again, zero fault on Marner.
Goal 3 Brutal pass into the skates of his teammate that bounces to Harkins for the easy empty netter.
Wrong again retard. The pass was not intended for Karlsson AT ALL. It was intended for Eichel on the opposite side of the ice. Karlsson, having missed most of the season, probably didn’t realize he was supposed to let the puck go between his legs and instead kicked it, creating a turnover and an easy empty net. You can literally see Marner pointing at Eichel as Karlsson kicks the puck as if to tell him “No, that pass was for EICHEL, not for you”.
Very good game 1, absolutely brutal game 2.
Very good Game 1 and not to blame for Game 2. Vegas did not play it’s best game and Anaheim had it’s best defensive effort of the entire season. Coach Q is doing a great job. He ain’t no Berube.
The best part is the dry haired glares he gives teammates after he was a big part of the fuck up.
The best part is you exposing yourself as too fucking stupid to know what you’re looking at. More evidence that you have no fucking idea what you’re watching, just blue and white delusions and irrational Marner hatred after getting dumped.
Be interesting to see how effective he is when he plays an actual cup contender like he had to all those years in the Atlantic.
He’s already been very effective, GWG Game 6, point per game, +4, into the 2nd round after year one on a new team, heavily hit by injuries and shit goaltending while Matthews and Nylander are watching the draft lottery, wondering where they’ll be golfing and playing next. Maybe they’ll be joining Marner in Vegas soon.

Nylander and Matthews have looked great in the playoffs this year.

Participantlistening to Chayka in interviews, he sounds better than what you heard from Treliving.
Low bar I know. but Ill take it at this pointNothing much will happen until the draft and free agency. I’m still a proponent of taking the best player available, which the consensus pick being McKenna. The issue with trading down, you get into a scenario like 2016. The first overall pick, Matthews vs the second overall pick, Lainie. Same could be said about 1984, when Lemieux went first overall and Kirk Muller went number 2. Take the first pick and bank it as a cornerstone of your franchise. If you Fuck around, you find out.
McKenna is not the consensus #1 pick. He’s not McDavid, he’s not MacKinnon, he’s not Matthews, or Crosby or Ovechkin or even Celebrini. He’s not a generational superstar player. There is plenty of debate and merit behind taking Stenberg over McKenna because he plays a more complete game. That’s exactly why this is a good scenario to trade down if possible.
McKenna could just as easily become Alexis Lafreniere or Nico Hischier or Juraj Slafkovsky or Taylor Hall. Not terrible players but not the best player from their draft either. And in every one of those scenarios, had those teams traded down, they could have picked a better player plus gained assets. It’s up to the scouting department to make that expert analysis and see the value.

ParticipantI feel a lot better these last few days, from just HOPING we can hang out to the 5th overall to knowing that we’re getting a really solid player (regardless of who we choose). I lean towards McKenna. Yeah, he’s on the small side, but he’s 18 and is likely still growing and will fill out. Biggest thing is he’s not a pussy like Matthews/Nylander/Marner.
I heard talk of trading Knies now that we’ll (likely) have McKenna. Fuck that, Knies is a stud, and he’s got 3″ and almost 60lbs on Gavin. We need both.
McKenna absolutely plays like a pussy and he’s definitely built like one in NHL terms. His drunken street fight doesn’t change how he plays on the ice. All the things retards accuse Marner of not doing is how McKenna plays the game. He’s a small, perimeter player who avoids contact and the dirty areas of the ice. Also, when a player refuses to play defense, it’s usually because they’re either lazy or a pussy or both. On that front, neither Matthews nor Marner play like a pussy defensively because they actually get back and defend which requires extra effort, determination and discipline. Nylander and McKenna are floaters who hope they can score one more than their opponents can and usually it ends with them losing when it matters.

ParticipantI agree its just risky to get cute and trade down or pick another player #1 like one of the Dmen.
from the sounds of it, this is a bit stronger draft overall, at least top 10. but no clear #1 no brainer which makes it toughthis is good….but just words for now
John Chayka on the resources available to him as Leafs GM: “The directive from Edward Rogers to me is to do whatever it takes to win a Stanley CupIt’s actually not that risky to trade down if done for the correct reasons. In 2017, Nolan Patrick was “the guy”. Until he wasn’t and the Devils picked Hischier. Turns out, they were both wrong because Makar went 4th and Heiskanen went 3rd. It’s up to the scouting department to gather as much information as possible and make the right pick. If the Devils had traded down to 4th and taken Makar, that’s a “risk” that turns into Stanley Cups.
That’s a blatant PR line. If the directive really was to do whatever it takes to win a Cup, they would have never hired Chayka and Sundin as the pair to do it nor would Pelley be the one hiring them.

Participanttrading down.
Nylander got too much time left on his contract to retain %50 even with the cap going up 104M but could also be used to reach the cap floor.I think they would have very little interest in trading down. They also don’t have another 1st to trade. Unless they trade their 1st for next year which could be a lottery pick because they could suck again so they would either not give it up or top 5 protect it.
Nylander is signed until 2030. 50% retained for an extra 1st or a top prospect is worth it. Leafs won’t need the cap space until 2030 anyway if they blow up the team. The floor would be way over 80 AAV by then.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantChicago would be my prevered trading partner if possible.
For trading down to or for trading Matthews and Nylander?
They already have Bedard and have tanked multiple times. Don’t think they care enough about McKenna or Stenberg to trade up. Also, they probably want to push to make the playoffs so they’d be more likely to trade for established guys like Matthews and Nylander than another 18 year old.
I think if the Leafs retain 50% on Matthews and Nylander, they could create a huge bidding war. Every single contender would be throwing the farm at us for either one for a cap hit under 7 AAV.

ParticipantGet a bit of an Alexis Lafreniere feeling from McKenna. McKenna is tiny, he can’t play defense, his effort has been shit at times, especially when things get tough from what I saw at the WJC. Seems to be a runner up despite everybody saying he’s the best player on the ice and a scoring machine. I’ve seen that movie before in Toronto. It doesn’t end well.
Stenberg isn’t that much bigger (20lbs heavier though) but his stats from the SHL show he put up more points than H. Sedin, Backstrom, Carlsson and Lindholm at 18 and he can play two-way hockey. He also comes from a pretty solid hockey family, his dad played pro in Sweden, his older brother is about to be a full time NHLer with St. Louis and his younger brother is also a top prospect for his age. Could be a little bit of Swedish Staal brothers going on here. Question mark with him is how well he can play on the smaller ice but he did play pretty good on smaller ice at the WJC and won the Gold.
If the Leafs don’t trade down, Sundin may be the swing vote to go Swedish on this one and I wouldn’t blame him. I don’t think either one of them are guaranteed superstars in the NHL. Neither one makes the Leafs a contender overnight and both should probably continue development rather than jump directly into the NHL and play 82 games.
But trading down for a RHD like Chase Reid or Keaton Verhoeff would be very nice. Both look like they could fill a huge gap in the Leafs prospect pool as either mobile, offensive D or huge, two-way D with a big shot from the point. That plus another good asset whether it’s a late 1st round pick or a multitude of picks could help restock the Leafs farm system which is pretty much empty. Just don’t think anybody is desperate enough for McKenna to trade that much to move up.
The only teams that could make it work is the Rangers or the Canucks. They both have top 5 picks and a late 1st round pick. Considering the Leafs don’t have their own 1st in the next two drafts, getting another 1st to trade down a couple spots and still end up with a solid RHD top prospect would be a good deal.

ParticipantCap ceiling is confirmed up to 104 million per year. Cap floor is 76.9 AAV. Max salary is now 20.8 AAV.

ParticipantTrade Rielly to Van for Petterson if Van Retains 2mil
add remove whatever makes it feel more evenEw. No.
Sundin should only bring the good Swedes. The shit ones can stay in Vanpoover.

ParticipantUnfortunately, I think Matthews gets you none of those packages. Constant injuries, and a contract way out of line with his performance diminishes that return significantly. I still think he has to go.
The LA proposal would be the closest but I would be thrilled to get Byfield and 1 first, nevermind 2.
This is incorrect.
Matthews still has insane value. The majority of contenders would throw the Leafs all kinds of future picks, prospects and young roster players to acquire him. It makes A LOT of sense to trade Matthews at the 2027 draft for maximum value. A realistic return on Matthews would be very, very good. Here are the reasons why.
Any team that acquires Matthews would only have to pay him 450K in real dollars. Yes, that’s right, 450K for one of the best snipers of this generation. With Matthews’ salary being almost entirely upfront signing bonuses, whatever team acquires Matthews will pay him next to nothing in real dollars. Additionally, if the Leafs retain 50% of his cap hit (who cares, they would be rebuilding if they trade him anyway) then his cap hit will be an absurd 6.625 AAV. And then, if all of that wasn’t already good enough, whatever team acquires him has the time to negotiate an 8 year extension which he might finally accept as he exits his prime years. This allows any team that acquires him to “go for it” with Matthews making peanuts in real dollars and a 50% cap hit discount for 1 year as a rental and/or add him long term with time to make the space for him to fit.
Now imagine a scenario where Utah, Anaheim, LA or San Jose want Matthews to contend with the big boys in the West and the other big boys in the West find out about that. Do you think Colorado could move 6.625 AAV to acquire Matthews, even as a 1 year rental? Same goes for Dallas, Minnesota, Vegas and Edmonton. You could have 6-8 teams in the West throwing offers at you left, right and center, all trying to out bid the other contenders in the West. And then, you might have some insane offer from one or two teams in the East if a contender wants to make a huge splash like Carolina.
If you look at what Rantanen got (Stankoven (under 23 roster player), two 1sts and two 3rds), Matthews could easily get that as an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM and probably get way more through a bidding war and contract retention is 50%.
I think two 1st round picks, a bluechip top prospect and a young (under 23) roster player is fair value for Matthews with a 6.625 cap hit and exclusive rights to negotiate an 8 year extension. Basically, four 1st round picks which would be standard value for a high value player signing an offer sheet as an example.
Leafs could do the same with Nylander by retaining 50% of his salary. If the Leafs are rebuilding, the cap hit will help them reach the floor and his new team will get Nylander for 5.75 AAV which again makes him insanely valuable to a contender who would have to pay a premium for that kind of talent and the reduced cap hit. Another minimum of three 1st round pick level assets.

ParticipantLeafs really dont have a choice now but to try and get back to the playoffs.
I am not convinced Matthews wants out, and I understand if he wants to be on a team that is going for it.I think you keep him (and Nylander) for this coming season and see how it plays out. And if you cant sign AM, you move him after the season or TDL whatever.
Having #1 pick changes a lot
The division is even stronger now. Making the playoffs is a pipe dream. Matthews does want to “go for it” but the Leafs don’t have anything to trade to change the team. UFAs won’t fix this team, they won’t want to sign here without a massive overpayment and the Leafs have already made that mistake too many times to count.
Matthews should want out and the Leafs should want to move him too. It’s what is best for both parties. Matthews just needs to have one good season to rebuild his value and then he should be gone. Nylander should be right behind him out the door for all the same reasons but less valuable given his obvious flaws of never playing defense.

ParticipantI see the pedo is on here with his xbox NHL 26 trade suggestions.
Get back to reality, loser.I think Stenberg is the better option, or trade down for a dman and get an extra pick.
The leafs arent trading matthews unless he says he wants out.
I see FakeAOC is still a complete libtard.
Matthews should want out and the Leafs would be way better off trading him than running out the last two years of his deal being mediocre. They need a rebuild and Matthews needs a new team. He’s become Phil Kessel. Leafs need the future assets more than they need one guy who can’t win a Cup by himself. Same goes for Nylander.
Unholy_Goalie
ParticipantIf the Leafs had a GM who knew how to win trades, they could rebuild this team by 2031.
Rebuild 2031:
2026: Trade down with NYR or VAN (hopefully they’re retarded). Draft Verhoeff and Hurlbert. Both go back to develop for 2-3 years.
2027: TDL: Carlo and OEL for one 1st round pick each. Rebuild Matthews and Nylander value. Finish 9th.
2028: TDL: McCabe, Tanev, Tavares, Matthews (50% retained) and Nylander (50% retained) for least seven pieces (1st round picks, top prospects, young roster players).
2029: Tank, lottery pick.
2030: Tank, lottery pick.2031-2033:
Knies | Lottery 2030 | Top Prospect (Nylander Trade)
Hurlbert | Top Prospect (Matthews Trade) | 1st round pick (Matthews Trade)
Cowan | 1st round pick (Tavares Trade)| 1st round pick (Tanev Trade)
1st round pick (Roy Trade) | 1st round pick (McCabe Trade) | 1st round pick (Carlo Trade)Lottery 2029 | Verhoeff
1st round pick (Nylander Trade) | 1st round pick (Matthews Trade)
1st round pick (OEL Trade) | Danford -
