What Point did 3 years ago doesn’t matter today. His playoff stats have dropped off and his stats this season are less than ideal. He’s not a bad player, he’s just not the absolute best player for Team Canada right now.
Unfortunately, he is a Cooper pet so he’ll probably be on the team even though he doesn’t deserve it, much like Hagel.
Point wasn’t that amazing at the 4 Nations either.
Canada needs rock solid bottom six and guys like Horvat and Cirelli are more important than bringing as many scoring forwards who won’t get the ice time they need.

The much better question is why do the same idiots continue to believe this team is any good and can win a Cup as currently constructed? Obviously, every fan WANTS them to win but it doesn’t mean they’re actually anywhere near being able to compete for a Cup.
Why are these people holding on to a fool’s hope that they can miracle their asses back around to being a contender when the players themselves don’t give a flying fuck about them or winning a Cup?
This is precisely why the best course of action is for this team to continue to suck, trade it’s best assets, acquire as many 1st round picks as possible, tank it and rebuild this team. Maybe the next time they’ll have men worthy of cheering for and be able to actually put together a group of guys who want to do what it takes to win a Cup.

Which puts him at the 8th spot, ahead of Hellebuyck.Not too shabby.
Which means absolutely nothing because he’s only played 11 games. If Matthews had maintained his career goal scoring pace after his 1st NHL game, he’d have 2624 NHL goals right now. But it didn’t go that way, did it?
The Leafs don’t have a single goalie that can play 55-60 games and maintain that level of stat over that larger period of time without falling off or getting hurt.
