ParticipantAnaheim is the #1 comeback team in the NHL. Coach Q won’t let these guys quit. Hart has to keep his usual shitty goal against out of the net this game.

ParticipantMitch Marner most definitely did not screen the goalie perfectly for a PP goal. Won’t get a point but that’s normal because it’s Game 6 and it’s unpossible for Marner to play well in a Game 6.

ParticipantMitch Marner definitely did not perfectly set-up Howden for a shorthanded goal because it’s Game 6 and it’s unpossible for Marner to score points in a Game 6.
Brett Howden, who had 9 career playoff goals prior to this year, now has 8 playoff goals since playing with Marner. Funny how that works.

ParticipantMitch Marner definitely did not score a between the legs beauty because it’s Game 6 and it’s unpossible for Marner to score a goal in Game 6.

ParticipantSedins are co-Presidents of the Canucks now with zero experience.
The Vancouver Canucks always want to be like the Leafs. It’s probably why they always lose.

ParticipantI saw a trade proposal. Chi offers #4 pick for Knies
yes or no?Is everybody else getting traded too? If you trade Knies for a player that won’t make an impact for another 2 or 3 years (best case scenario), Matthews and Nylander probably say fuck this team 2 seconds after they find out about the trade.
As I’ve said before, 1st overall doesn’t make this team a Cup winner overnight. Neither does 4th overall. So it’s full rebuild if any good player is traded.
But if Matthews is going for 2nd overall + Misa + an unprotected 2027 1st and Nylander is going for 3rd overall and a 2027 unprotected 1st, yes sure, blow it up, trade Knies and go for it.

ParticipantI just mean for the perception the players have, like AM will see it as making changes to “improve”
whether they do or not on the ice, isnt the point. They fired the coach without asking the players. What kind of perception does that have? They let his best buddy and best playmaker go to Vegas and he leads the playoffs in scoring. How’s that perception look?
Again, the perception still sucks from multiple angles. Chayka has zero success in the NHL and Sundin has zero experience. Shane Doan is gone. Since day one, this franchise has wiped Matthews’ ass in every direction. It’s been good enough to keep him signed but not a winning formula either.
The 1st overall pick is not McDavid. He’s not MacKinnon. He’s not Crosby. Or Ovechkin. The new coach is expected to turn chicken shit into chicken salad? The coaching candidates are either hard asses or rookies. The Leafs have hired both types. Neither worked before and the roster is worse than ever.
Don’t think anything they have done will change the reality and what happens on the ice is what matters. This will still be a lottery team at worst and a 9th placed team at best. The UFA market won’t change this team, the 1st overall pick won’t change this team and the Leafs simply do not have the assets to trade themselves into a better position either.
This pile of shit is what it is and Matthews, if he’s smart, will see the writing on the wall and get the hell out of town. Luckily, it’s also what is best for the franchise so both parties win.
Play out next year. Score 40-50. Miss the playoffs. Trade him with 50% retained at the draft.

Participantwe all have different opnions on what is “rebuild correctly”. the only opnions that counts is Chayka and Sundin’s.
I know you’ll be moaning and growning at every move they make and you don’t like any moves they make. And most of those opinions will be wrong. If time has proven anything it’s that whatever the typical Leafs fans thinks is good, the opposite is usually correct.
If you look at the winners in the NHL, it’s pretty clear what works and what doesn’t. What the Leafs did previously did not work. And what Chayka did in Arizona failed miserably. So his opinion might “count” but it doesn’t mean it will work.
What does work is drafting high, drafting often and drafting well. Until the Leafs are elite at that, they will always end up failing everywhere else. The Leafs can’t build a team through mostly trades and UFAs because they simply suck at that too hard to make it a basis of a rebuild.
My complaints have been valid and correct because here we are, looking down the barrel of another rebuild with no Stanley Cup yet and if they don’t change their ways, that will continue for another 59 years.

ParticipantChayka doesnt seem to sit on stuff. at least he didnt in his first go round as GM. Id suspect if he doesnt re-sign AM, he trades him and doesnt Marner it up.
But new GM, new coach, new shiny #1 pick. My bet is AM signs another deal with the Leafs
New GM means nothing if he builds a shit team. New coach means nothing if Matthews isn’t part of the hiring process. #1 pick means nothing if he doesn’t turn them into a contender instantly (he won’t).
Matthews certainly isn’t acting or speaking like it yet. And it seems like his agent and McDavid’s agent want them both to be UFAs at the same time and for the other to sign first to set a new bar of highest paid.

ParticipantWow! Talk about turning on the jets. Colorado, down 3, come back and win it in Overtime. That was a dominant 3rd and Overtime. How do you compete with that? Minnesota is a quality team. I don’t see the winner of the Ducks/Knights series getting a sniff in the next round. It shows how far away that the Leafs are, in regards to playing for the Cup. Just move Willy and Auston and get all of the draft capital and young assets you can get.
The window of opportunity in the NHL is so small. Florida won 2 out of 3 Finals and now might be finished with an aging roster. Same with Tampa Bay.
MacKinnon was drafted 8 years before they won the Cup 4 years ago. Since then, they haven’t been anywhere close since then. Now, they’re “back”.
If you build a solid, balanced foundation, you give yourself as many kicks at the can as possible. The previous rebuild went off the rails after Tavares and was unbalanced.
The next rebuild must be done correctly.

Participantid go with Carle, young and new…get that old guard Berube stink off
also Carle is 36, Chayka is 36…so it has to beI want the Leafs to bring Carle into the organization but I don’t think I want him in the NHL yet.
The Marlies coach, John Gruden should be promoted to withstand the beginning of the rebuild. The reason being, he has more experience but is still a “new young” coach. He was an assistant in Boston and Long Island as well as doing well in the AHL with the Marlies, two gold medals at the WJC and winning a Championship in the OHL. That’s an alright resume for a position that should be transitioning into a full rebuild. He can work with young players and the majority of Marlies that he is already familiar with as the Leafs start to trade away everybody over 25.
By promoting John Gruden, you create a vacancy for Carle to step into. Carle “might” want to jump directly into the NHL but grossly overpaying him will change his mind to take a couple years in the AHL first. This gives him time to adjust from college kids to pro players. Then, two or three years from now, when the Leafs are in full tank and rebuild mode, you can promote Carle from within without him having to deal with the day to day tire fire of a tanking, rebuilding team.
This, of course, depends on if Rod Brind’Amour, who is a free agent in 2029, can be pulled in or not whereby you see if Carle wants to remain as an assistant and learn from the best.

Does that include trading down and drafting his son?
Chayka said the search will be “deep and wide” which is MLSE code for: “there’s one guy who actually wants this dumpster fire but we’re going to pretend like we have to go through 10,000 people” as they did with the GM “search”.
Chayka also said the players weren’t not consulted about the coaching situation so there’s another thing to push Matthews and this core out the door.

Participantalso good that they were willing to eat the 2 years of Berube salary. the comment Win at all costs or whatever it was.
hopefully Pelley just fades into the background
“Win at all costs” only applies if they actually continue to break the bank on staff. If they go out and hire some budget coach, it won’t help.
Pelley will never fade into the background until he’s fired.
Unholy_Goalie
Participant4.5M per year for Berube to coach the Leafs.
That’s a lot scratch man.The Leafs could spend 100 million on staff. Who gives a fuck? That’s the only area the Leafs can have an advantage and they should take full advantage of it.
