Leafs have time to keep Matthews for this coming season, new coach. his 2 worst seasons were with Berube.
Leafs TDL Roy, Mcmann etc all went and were impactful. Berube…prob might be one of the worst coaches.

at min build AM value back up. if they do end up deciding to trade him, but im not convinced that happens.

Agreed, rebuild his value and trade him with 50% retained at the 2027 draft.

The problem is, if the Leafs make 8th, they’ll think they’re contenders again and will ride Matthews into UFA and trade his rights for a 3rd liner.

Jays can never beat the stupid fking Rays. its sooo frustrating.

I just noticed the closer the Jays needed and the Dodgers got is injured having surgery, and has these stats
    war -.05
    era 10.50
    fip 4.95

in baseball nothing ever works out like you expect.

He’ll be back for when the games matter.

    Bye Berube.

Carle at Denver U should be a target.

Jays absolutely suck vs. the Rays.

I’m sure they’re gonna win the division and beat the Dodgers though.

    Rebuild 2031:

2026: Trade down with NYR or VAN (hopefully they’re retarded). Draft Verhoeff and Hurlbert. Both go back to develop for 2-3 years.
2027: TDL: Carlo and OEL for one 1st round pick each. Rebuild Matthews and Nylander value. Finish 9th.
2028: TDL: McCabe, Tanev, Tavares, Matthews (50% retained) and Nylander (50% retained) for least seven pieces (1st round picks, top prospects, young roster players).
2029: Tank, lottery pick. Offer McDavid max dollars.
2030: In the most likely scenario, McDavid declines, continue to tank, lottery pick.

    2031-2033:

Knies | Lottery 2030 (McDavid) | Top Prospect (Nylander Trade)
Hurlbert | Top Prospect (Matthews Trade) | 1st round pick (Matthews Trade)
Cowan | 1st round pick (Tavares Trade)| 1st round pick (Tanev Trade)
1st round pick (Roy Trade) | 1st round pick (McCabe Trade) | 1st round pick (Carlo Trade)

    Lottery 2029 | Verhoeff
1st round pick (Nylander Trade) | 1st round pick (Matthews Trade)
1st round pick (OEL Trade) | Danford

Goalies can be either drafted if an elite one appears in the draft with a 1st round pick (Vasilevskiy) or signed as a UFA (Bobrovsky) or acquired in a trade (Hellebuyck) if it’s somebody guaranteed elite and the Leafs have the extra draft capital to acquire an elite goalie.

MSN and it’s subsidiaries are filled with terrible ideas.

Zellweger doesn’t provide enough juice for the squeeze and he’s currently benched by Anaheim. Don’t see the value in upsetting another GM with an offer sheet to overpay a small, marginal former 2nd round pick. It would be like somebody sending an offer sheet for Robertson or Maccelli. What’s the point?

There is no benefit in acquiring another bad contract for Rielly. Sundin has already said he will not ask anybody to waive their NMC. If the Leafs trade Matthews and Nylander, Rielly will want out on his own accord and at that point the Leafs don’t need to bring in another bad contract.

Matthews with 50% retained is worth more than 2nd overall in a meh draft. Would have to include at least Misa and a 2027 1st unprotected. Maybe more if other teams increase the bidding.

    Coyle resigned with CBJ

    6yrs X 6M. dude’s already 34.

Nobody wants to play for CBJ. With the cap being so high, both floor and ceiling, undesirable teams will continue to overspend to attract players. The Leafs have to do the same with the shitty market pressure, increased taxes and now also a terrible team.

Kulak, Andersson, and Marchment are on my wishlist. Have to figure out how to jettison some dead weight, though.

The “dead weight” will refuse to waive their NMC unless Matthews is first traded. Only then will the rest of the rats flee the ship.

Sundin already said he won’t ask anybody to waive their NMC. Big surprise there after he fucked the Leafs at the deadline when he was a player. The old Muskoka Five leader is here to protect the new Muskoka Five.

It’s going to be the same shit box team with a new coat of paint.

Draft needs to be a trade down to increase assets. Best case scenario is doing a deal with NYR or VAN for a late 1st plus a top 5 pick. VAN seems to be a disaster and could be swindled since they seem really pissed off they aren’t drafting 1st overall.

Free agency should be absolutely nobody. This team needs to rebuild, not blow more cap space and long contracts on older, overpaid UFAs.

The only free agents should be 1 year deals that they can trade at the deadline when they finish 9th.

Matthews and Nylander also need to be traded with 50% retained to maximize value to bring back at least seven 1st round picks worth of value to kick start the rebuild and to get the rest of the old, overpaid slugs like Rielly, McCabe, Tanev and OEL to waive their NMC and trade them for maximum value.
