but he’s over 25, doesn’t fit the mold.

For a rebuild, absolutely he does not. But in the offseason, the Leafs were trying to replace Marner on the PP and add a top-six winger with playoff, Cup winning experience. And he played under Berube when he won the Cup. He’s got an obvious connection. Tarasenko signed for 4.5 AAV. Leafs wasted AAV on Maccelli.

At the same time, if the team still sucked, Tarasenko becomes a valuable trade chip you can move at the deadline for a 1st or 2nd round pick. Maccelli isn’t worth shit. Treliving’s talent evaluation skills are retarded.

No its January 20th, we have to whine that the Jays didnt want to pay ridiculous prices for players who arent worth the money.

Good off season so far for the Jays, most active of any team.
    Still need another bat

Again, “ridiculous prices” and “worth the money” is whatever it takes to compete with the Dodgers.

I’ll make this as simple as possible for your retarded brain.

Dodgers beat the Jays in the World Series. Dodgers got better. Jays got worse. Dodgers win World Series rematch. Jays lose again.

If the Jays want to win the World Series and take full advantage of their current opportunity, that requires spending “ridiculous” money because if they win, it will always be “worth it”.

Or, do what Toronto loves to do best, come in 2nd place and pretend they don’t need Ohtani or any of the best players.

That would be foolish imo…..so with Tre….maybe

Woll is always a question mark when it comes to health….Stolarz is similar and we dont know which stolarz we are going to get back.
The beast as looked great, but its only been a short stint, is he the answer long term? Too early to tell.

Keep 3 goalies until the off season…..heck Id even keep 3 goalies going forward beyond that.

I wish Woll well but it’s literally a matter of time before he gets hurt again. The Leafs will need to keep all 3 goalies unless they want to tank. Hildeby will be sent back down and be back-up eventually.

Stolarz was always overrated, he played above his head last year. With so much down time this year, he should be the back-up and keep Woll rested.

Boy that Tarasenko guy, Leafs missed a chance on that one. But it’s not like the Leafs needed to sign anybody to help the PP who won a Stanley Cup under Berube…

He’d probably have 30-40 playing with any combo of Matthews, Knies, Tavares and Nylander, especially on the PP. Much better to have plugs like Maccelli for 3.4 AAV.

Leafs just did not show up at home. Minnesota is a terrible state but they’re a great hockey team and the Leafs were outplayed. If Woll doesn’t stand on his head, the Leafs are helpless.

The Leafs are SO BACK to being a wild card pretender.

the Jays signed Okamoto who projects to have pretty much the same value as Bo. for 1/3 the price. They are projected as the #2 team.
No team was going to out spend the Dodgers, Word is Jays offered 350m/10 for Tucker, took their shot.

the Jays have to worry about the Dodgers only if both make it back to the world Series, which is extremely unlikely, also its January. a ton happens between now and October.
What the teams are at the moment is now that you will have 6 months from now.

Its should be another fun season

Okamoto projects to be the AL hits leader as a rookie? I doubt it. I’m glad they finally signed a Japanese prospect but he’s unknown until he proves otherwise which is a gamble to rely on him to replace a proven star player.

Why not offer that deal to Bichette? I don’t blame them for not getting Tucker, I wouldn’t take 10 years in Toronto either but Bichette they could have locked in with that same offer. He wanted 300 million and that’s how they could have kept him.

Is it as unlikely as the Panthers and the Oilers meeting in the Final two years in a row? If the Jays run into them again, it’s another loss and that’s what they needed to prepare for. If they are built to beat the Dodgers, they can beat anybody. But now, there’s serious doubt.

A lot can still change but most of their best options have disappeared. The Jays are going to need a lot of guys to play above their ahead again. That’s the part that is unlikely.

Sigh, lol can you just let me keep dreaming about moving the one d man I really want to see go?

I get what you’re saying but unless they truly fall out of the race it won’t happen, especially under Treliving, so to get the trades you’re wishing for you better hope for a losing streak that takes them out of the wildcard race. I get the division leaders argument you make but I simply cannot see ownership allowing a blowup unless the playoffs are truly and completely out of sight. If anything they’ll somehow spend stupidly and go the other way. Fuck sakes they better not sell Cowan. That would sincerely piss me off. That kid is no superstar but he’s built for the Toronto market perfectly.

If you want to dream about moving Rielly, start calling Seattle. They are a playoff team and closer to “home” than Toronto is.

Treliving must be fired. He can’t build a winner and he can’t rebuild either. He is another JFJ. Son of a successful man but incompetent on his own merit.

Absolutely, if losing 10 straight means this team blows it up and rebuilds, let’s go, start losing immediately. Better to bottom out than be 9th place every year like the Kessel years.

While all the homers are looking at this recent stretch as “the real Leafs” they haven’t been watching Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay is becoming the beast of the East again. Carolina is one “star” player or goalie away from being unbeatable too. And the West has Colorado, Vegas, Edmonton and Dallas, all teams the Leafs couldn’t beat in a 7 game Final series. This team is a pretender.

I’d rather they not sell Cowan too and trade everybody over 25 but Cowan isn’t THAT good either. At absolute best, he’d be a hold over like Kadri was in the previous rebuild.

Not that it means much but Calgary is also holding onto 50% of his cap hit. Wouldn’t want to do that with Rielly.

Different type of scenario because he’s a pending UFA so they are retaining to fit him under the playoff cap. But he’s going to get a new contract and it’s going to be a bigger cap hit next year.

But the Leafs still have assets like OEL, Tanev, Carlo etc. who they can trade that don’t have the same type of destructive cap hit as Rielly.

If the Leafs were to sell hard, they could get a boat load in return.

Andersson to the VGK in exchange for Zach Whitecloud, 1st in 2027 (top 10 protected), 2nd in 2028 that becomes a 1st if VGK win the Cup this season. Abram Wiebe also moved to Calgary.

All that for Swedish right handed Rielly. Wow.

Leafs could get so much if they started selling off everybody over 25.

So why come on here and try to make everyone else miserable? Are you just an asshole?

If telling you the truth with my opinions makes you miserable, that’s a you problem.

We both want this franchise to build a Stanley Cup winner. The difference is, I’m a lot more accurate and realistic in regards to what is required for them to accomplish that goal. You just think they’re great no matter what.

    Very good road trip.

Hildebeast is good and not terrible as the almighty predicted.
Leafs can earn points on the road even under tough conditions, again the almighty one was wrong.

At no point was Hildeby predicted to be terrible. Check your facts.

The Leafs embarrassed themselves twice on the road, once getting their asses blown out by Utah, which should have been 2 relatively easy points. Then, blowing four different two goal leads to Vegas. They impressed vs. Colorado with some good fortune with playing vs. an AHL goalie but they took full advantage, as they should. And they beat one of the worst teams in the NHL in Winnipeg after losing most of the game.

Despite “earning points”, they’re still outside of a playoff spot. They’re still treading water towards 9th place or a 1st round exit.

To truly turn this team around, they need to continue to produce consistent 7 wins out of 10 game stretches to punch their ticket ahead of all the teams around them.

Remember, this team is supposed to be a contender, not a wild card team.

OMG! Is it me, or is Hildeby better than Hellebuyck?

    I just checked, and maybe! Hildeby has a .910 SV% with a 2.96 GAA. Hellebuyck has a .901 SV% with a 2.76 GAA.

    Huh, who knew?

Yes, of course, give Hildeby the Vezina after *checks notes* 18 games. Totally justified.

A lot of retards here owe Domi an apology. So many here had him dumped or traded months ago. He’s definitely not good in his own end, it’s no surprise he’s -11 but he’s been playing well with Matthews for awhile now. He’s been scoring, making plays, fighting and just being a useful player.
