Participantid go with Carle, young and new…get that old guard Berube stink off
also Carle is 36, Chayka is 36…so it has to beI feel like Pelley is going the full nuclear option on the management side of things, because we all know they’re not going to blow up the roster, (which I’m fine with, for the record). Bringing in Sundin and Chayka was the first move in a clear (risky?) new direction. I think they’re going to go completely off the board with the head coach, definitely not sticking with the old boy’s club that professional sports are known for.

ParticipantI feel a lot better these last few days, from just HOPING we can hang out to the 5th overall to knowing that we’re getting a really solid player (regardless of who we choose). I lean towards McKenna. Yeah, he’s on the small side, but he’s 18 and is likely still growing and will fill out. Biggest thing is he’s not a pussy like Matthews/Nylander/Marner.
I heard talk of trading Knies now that we’ll (likely) have McKenna. Fuck that, Knies is a stud, and he’s got 3″ and almost 60lbs on Gavin. We need both.

ParticipantRaddysh has had such a great year…and it feels like he’s going to get paid way too much and likely be unable to live up to the contract. Or, he could have just come into his own and will be a beast for the next 10 years. Some are saying a 4-year deal at just over 5 million is the ballpark, and I would do that in a heartbeat, but I don’t think it is even close. I think it starts there and ends up at 7.5 for 5 years.
There is no shot anyone gets Raddysh for $5M (unless he takes a HUGE hometown discount with the Leafs, which I don’t expect). There are a lot of teams with a lot of cap space and a very weak UFA class, so just about everybody is going to get massively overpaid.

ParticipantImagine being so blinded by homerism that you can’t see the Leafs are still absolutely fucked and this pick is simply delaying the rebuilding process that is necessary.
Biggest losers since 1967 for a reason anybody in hockey has ever seen.
This is by a long shot your dumbest take ever, and that’s saying something. There is literally zero downside to having the first overall pick.

ParticipantMcKenna has ZERO defensive game. Marner is an elite two-way winger. You’re a total libtard. Get a fucking clue.
Marner is also a massive vagina with zero grit or physical game. McKenna is breaking people’s jaws in the bar at night. I’ll take that any day over a guy who won’t even hit anyone with his purse.

ParticipantWhy the fuck would Tuch want to continue to live in Buffalo? If he wanted to be there, why hasn’t he signed an extension? People leave contenders all the time. You don’t know what motivates these guys. Yeah, they’re both long shots, and I fear overpaying Raddysh, but far crazier things have happened. The literal point of my post was that we aren’t THAT far from contending if Chayka can make some bold moves. Who knows, maybe they win the draft lottery.
Again, I share your skepticism of Chayka, but I’m not gonna be like you and blow a gasket any time anyone at MLSE breathes.
Well, would you look at that?

ParticipantWhy the fuck would Raddysh and Tuch sign with the Leafs?
Seriously. On what planet do those guys jump ship from two teams that are contenders to the Leafs? For a gross overpayment? If that’s the plan (grossly overpay UFAs) clearly you haven’t learned anything.
Trade for who? Give up what? Leafs have dogshit to trade. Have you seen Chayka’s trade history? He consistently loses nearly every major trade he’s ever made. The only trades he “won” were trades where he took on huge LTIR contracts for draft picks. Chayka trades 1st round picks line candy, dumps top prospects often and can’t draft worth a fuck either.
Are you suggesting Chayka has a cocaine problem?

ParticipantGarbage time coming in hot and heavy. This looks like a mushroom cloud within the next 12 months. You think it’s bad without first rounders for 2 years, just wait and hold my Wendy’s Frosty. It’ll look like the Phoenix Coyotes of 4 years ago. Might as well start looking for a backup team to follow for the next decade. Septic tank city come on down.
It’s truly not that bad. Work to be done, for sure, but it’s doable.
Sign Raddysh, and Tuch, then we’ll see what Chayka can actually swing on the trade front. If he’s able to move 44 then he’s instantly in my good books.

ParticipantAdd me to the list of folks that are underwhelmed and skeptical of today’s announcements. Sounds like Chayka is young, arrogant and thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. Somehow, I don’t think that bodes well for attracting talent to Toronto or getting trades done.
Sundin is simply a nostalgia hiring, I’m not sure he can really bring much to the team. Love the guy, but what exactly is the expectation?

ParticipantSunny Mehta to New Jersey.

ParticipantBullshit excuse. The Leafs dropped dozens of games to horrible teams, non-playoff teams and Western teams, including Vegas TWICE.
injuries and bad goaltending…was an excuse someone just used..I just read it
Fucking… ROASTED. Fourth degree burns.
Well played, good sir.

ParticipantThe original pick was Buffalo’s pick so it will be a late pick none the less.
Yeah, but now it’s 32 picks less late:-D
I’ll just admit it, I REALLY miss the emojis from the original Hockeybuzz.

ParticipantVegas won 6-2, presumably Marner had a MONSTER night.

ParticipantStill 58% chance to not be top 5. Still got more to do to get it.
Not really much they can do anymore, it basically comes down to luck now, as long as they don’t do something stupid like beat Ottawa.
The Laughton pick is officially a second now, so that’s pretty nice.
