Are you my alt, Cush?!?! I don’t have a link to it, but I’ve been saying San Jose for a few weeks now.

One thing I know for (almost) certain, he ain’t going to be wearing blue and white next season.

    4) Jesus Fucking Christ, we gotta do something about Rielly. If he’s coked out, put him in rehab and bury his caphit. If he refuses a trade, then redeploy him as a second pairing guy and go after someone like Provorov. Leafs need another top pair D guy. It won’t come cheap. Maybe use some of the Marner cap space. Also, minor tip here – chatter is that Tampa is cutting bait with Nick Perbix. He’s actually a solid 3rd pair guy who will come cheap. I’d snag him if he leaves Tampa (just for depth).

If the rumors aren’t true, and Rielly ISN’T addicted to coke, maybe someone should GET him addicted so we can force him into rehab and bury his cap hit.

    4D chess.

Carolina has about 30M in cap space.
    ~dmnted

He probably wants north of $30M, lol

For the record, for many years in Edmonton some have wanted Drai run out of town for lazy backchecks and defensive play, much like some say about Slick Willy.

You don’t hear anyone slagging Drai these days. Just saying…

No but it’s under protest for you cheering for a Marchand cup win.
    ~Cush

That is the unfortunate, unintended consequence of a personally much needed Oiler loss.

But, I’m cheering for Florida. Is my MVP award revoked?!?!

I can see where you’re coming from. By no means do I want to just run it back and hope it works this time, but I think a few tweaks can push them over the top. They’re close.

    Florida looks horrible ATM.

In fairness, Cush, Florida needed 7 games to dispatch us after KOing our #1 in game 1. Things could have been very different.

The Oilers have dragged Florida to OT, but it’s only one game. Let’s see how things play out.

Bye-bye Marndawg, hello weaponized cap space. Bennett, Marchand, let’s go.
    ~gravyface

I just can’t picture Bennett or Marchand signing with the Leafs. Especially Bennett, why would he leave Florida?!? Their window is WIDE open, and they’re set up to be a problem for at least next year as well.

Rielly can and will be traded if the Leafs management actually put their mind to it.

Rielly not being traded isn’t because he can’t be moved, it’s because the Leafs have decided they believe he’s worth keeping.

Boy, are you in for more disappointment than AA.

For the most part, I think Tre has done quite well considering what was left after Dubas’ departure. He’s completely retooled the back end, and the tendies are looking nice! Now he’s got a little bit of breathing room to play with the forwards with Shanny gone and likely having more leash.

The Carlo trade was a beauty, I can see how the Laughton trade has an odor to it, but he’s still got another year to turn it around.

Can we please stop talking about trading Rielly?!?! Mark my words, he will play out 100% of his contract in a Leaf uniform. He’s a terrible player, makes WAY too much money for what he brings, and has full trade protection. “He needs a change of scenery, someone will take a chance on him.” Bullshit! Nobody is touching that guy unless the Leafs retain 50% and throw in a sweetener or take a crap contract back.

Please, God, Tre, prove me wrong.

I’ve said this recently, and I believe it – I don’t think you replace Marner.
    ~monkeypunk

This is exactly it. The Leafs have too many $10M+ guys that all do pretty much the same thing. Some score more, some assist more, but none of them compete particularly hard. We’ve already committed to Willy and Matty, so you’re pretty much stuck with them unless you want to get fleeced in a deal, assuming they waive. (But if you keep asking players to waive, what players are going to want to sign here?).

Mitch is a hell of a player, but his game simply doesn’t translate in the playoffs. Basically, we’re sacrificing Mitch for some gritty grinders that are going to get the puck out of our zone, and keep it in their zone. We’re sacrificing fancy goals, for gritty goals. You simply don’t see a lot of fancy goals in the playoffs, the vast majority are scrambles in front, tips on point shots, or deflections off someone’s taint.

I’m generally against signing geezers, but if Patches retires, I wouldn’t be adverse to taking a flyer on Toews or Kane if they’d sign for a small salary with a bunch of incentive bonuses. Toews feels like more of a risk.
    ~PDF

I think Patches is done, sounds like the time away from his family took it’s toll. I doubt Kane wants to play in Canada. Toews is not likely to come to the Leafs, but if he did I’d happily take a shot on him if he signed for league minimum plus incentives.
