yes its me 2050ParticipantPronger been awful chatty about the flyers it seems recently. Could he be angling for a job? If there is one organization who loves the big name, no matter the role it is the flyers.
Since it is Pronger many flyers fans would buy into what he is selling. More so then the wonder twins.

yes its me 2050ParticipantI see it this way. The elite teams that have won the cup over the past 2 decades have mostly the same things in common. They draft the elite talent first, especially at C, 1D and goalie, and then build the team around those elite parts through signings and development of the lesser draft picks.
The Flyers strategy SEEMS to be draft the lesser parts (with a FEW exceptions) and try to sign the elite talent through FA. This will result in overpaying for your talent and missing out on those cost controlled years. Yes they have Michkov and hopefully Martone on the (hopefully elite) level, but they are wings, so right there you are behind the 8 ball.
They keep talking about drafting “Flyers type players”. But Flyers type players haven’t won a cup in 50 years. Calling it CULTURE is a pablum. Every team that wins has culture. Winning breeds culture, not the other way around. Not without the talent to get it done.
The result is what we have now and will continue to have for the foreseeable future. A hard working team that lacks elite talent and will never be able to beat a hard working team that HAS elite talent. Culture and hard work is not some exclusively Flyers trait, though they would have you believe it is.
So lets recap, they lack elite talent, especially at the important positions, they have no elite talent in the pipeline despite having MANY high draft picks over the past few years. And are getting a less realistic chance to draft that elite talent as they rise “slightly” into the lower end of bubble territory.
The FA agent market is already thin and getting thinner. So what is the plan? Throw a Max deal at McDavid? Yeah sure…..
Trade some of the wings for a young center who could fill the 1C role? I guess.
They seem to think they can win with depth over talent. I guess they need to find some of the depth, since they lack in that department as well…..
Its very disheartening.
Right from Dannys mouth:
“But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way. So depth will be important to us.”

yes its me 2050ParticipantAnyone who thinks this is or was a rebuild is your typical uneducated flyers fan.
Couple questions for Bill:
1. If the flyers continue to fade and miss the playoffs, do you see Tocchet being fired?
2. If they miss the playoffs do you see TK or Sanheim asking for a trade?
3. Do the flyers give any though to trading Zegras at the deadline?
yes its me 2050Participantgo read tweets or the like from flyers beat in september. They raved how good MM looked. Not much if anything about out of shape and the like. Evevn the coach praised him. no the tables have turned. like cutter MM is just taking the high road not saying anything
What have the flyers done to help him? Have they assigned a personal trainer? A dietichen? anything to get back on track.
seeing the cutter situation and now all the MM bullshit. Wonder what Martone is thinking? No worries player banging down the door to play for the flyers and tocchet.
yes its me 2050ParticipantWhy wouldn’t you include this season? Yes, let’s try to analyze a player’s current value by not including the season he’s currently having. That’s hilarious. Tippett is a top 4 winger for the overwhelming majority of teams in this league and he brings what the Flyers need more of which is size and goal scoring. The guys the Flyers need to move on from are the small guys who’ll never crack 18-20 goals in a season. With Martone over Brink, the Flyers will gain 30 pounds of muscle and not give up anything production wise in even his first year. Brick by brick. Hahaha!
Because the season isn’t over. Use data that is already known to be true having full seasons completed. Nah why use that.
Then a competent GM would pounce on that and get a haul back one would think no?
He Is not a core player and is someone I would move in a heartbeat seeing where the flyers are at as well as were they are heading. Though you think they are close to contention.
yes its me 2050Participantwhere are you coming up with 27? where are the 3 teams with 3 wingers with 27 goals coming from?
how can zegras improve on his faceoffs?
94 goals in 288 games over the last 4 seasons. 94 divided by 288 is .326 multiplied by 82 is 27. Simple math. Which teams have three wingers who have put pucks in the net at that pace? I’ll give you a head start: Dallas does. They have Robertson, Rantanen and Hintz. Who else does?
The word around in the summer was Zegras needs to cheat better. Sometimes wingers need to jump in and grab pucks to cement a faceoff win. Flyers don’t stand out at that.
Not including this season.
More accurate numbers would be the number of goals he has scored the last 3 years which is 75/ 232 – number of games he has played. That gives you .3232.
Then take the average number of games he has played over the 3 seasons which is 77.33.
77.33 * .3232= 25 goals per year.
Either way use whatever numbers you want. Love pace. Am I to assume Tippet is an elite level winger?
what 3 wingers do the flyers have that have averaged 27 goals (your number) a year over that time frame?
/********************/
You get better in faceoffs by taking them, no? Cement head tocchet does not see him as a center and will not play as such. That is pretty evident at least this season.
yes its me 2050Participantno one with the exception of possibly MM is part of the solution.
Nonsensical.
let’s assume they are contending in 5 years. who will still be here that is part of the core “solution”
yes its me 2050Participanttippet is underwhelming. solid depth piece. he is what he is and no more untapped potential. he has 28, 27, and 20 goals each the last 3 seasons. 19 this year.
zegras was back on the wing last night. the coach has no long-term vision, he is dope. he will end up a winger on this team
Again you fail to appreciate averaging 27 goals per 82 over 4 seasons puts Tippett in limited company. Please list the teams that have three wingers that can all match or top that number.
Zegras needs to get better at the dot. FWIW, Shane Wright has a comparably bad faceoff percentage.
where are you coming up with 27? where are the 3 teams with 3 wingers with 27 goals coming from?
how can zegras improve on his faceoffs?
yes its me 2050Participantyou said a lot of dumb shit. like brink will be fighting for a roster spot.
Nobody stepped up enough to take it from him. Bump was not as advertised and Grebenkin won himself a 4th line role. To be the man you’ve got to beat the man. Brink is still not part of the solution. Martone will fix that.
no one with the exception of possibly MM is part of the solution.
yes its me 2050ParticipantWTF is tippet delivering? he is an underwhelming 20 something goal scorer. A solid depth piece. nothing more. certainly not a core player.
Briere is too scared to ask tK to waive and also has no interest in moving him. Briere is a putz. TK can help any team and one has to hope him and his BFF ask out. I doubt it as both are comfortable as hell in the current situation.
Hate to break the news to you but 27 goals per 82 games is not underwhelming. That’s a top 6 winger for just about any team in the league. Plus he’s proven to be durable. Of course, that doesn’t matter.
Either way they have a log jam in center. Assuming they resign Zegras and plan to use him as a center, he will get a NMC because Flyers. That leaves you with 3 C with NMC for the next 3 years (Dvorak, Coots, Zegras). That doesn’t include Cates who is on a 4 year extension. What do you do with the existing centers, most of which are unmovable? The Flyers already have too many middle six wingers for next year. Unless Wright ends up being a #1 center you are worse off than before with 5 centers who aren’t the answer and no place to put another if you can find one.
Zegras has to crack his issue with winning faceoffs. He’s flipping back to center sooner or later and that fills one of the two top scoring center needs. Somebody else can always flip to wing.
tippet is underwhelming. solid depth piece. he is what he is and no more untapped potential. he has 28, 27, and 20 goals each the last 3 seasons. 19 this year.
