Dvorak is the Laughton replacement. He is not a top 6 player, but Flyer HCs seem intent on playing them in that that role. I have no issue with the contract, but my hope is he moves down the lineup quickly. No issue managing Luchanko and building him up slowly. Grebenkin has earned the right to be in a top 9 spot and hopefully is inserted there against CAR.

Grebenkin is in the lineup tomorrow. Luchanko may be as well. Deslauriers and possibly Abols come out. Tocc said twice this week that he wants to get both of the rookies into the lineup without sitting them for too long (specific to Grebenkin, he said the Russian would play Saturday if he wasn’t in the opener).

Re:Dvorak, the Flyers have two roster problems that they probably can’t solve simultaneously with the current roster.

    * They need more offensive production, BUT
    * They also desperately need to play better team D and lower the GAA.

So when you look at the better offensive players up front, you find that:

    * Michkov is below average defensively.
    * Zegras is below average defensively.
    * Konecny is strictly average at most defensively (but that’s a big jump from where he started)
    * Tippett is also average at best defensively (he, too, started out below-average)
    * They don’t want to separate Foerster from Cates/Brink line.

What Tocchet is trying to do, but may not be able to keep with, is spread thing out a bit. He’s trying to live with Tippett-Zegras-Konecny line as “2/3 just adequate enough” defensively not to kill you while seeking offense. He wanted two defensively responsible linemates for Michkov because he has a long way to go still defensively. Grebenkin is prone to going to the wrong spots defensively and to turning over pucks coming through the neutral zone.

They need to find some way to get more offense and at least lower the defensive issues a bit (I’m only talking forwards here, not the mess that is the blueline).

The Russian came prepared to camp to win a job, played well earned a spot and you sit him. Great coaching. They rave about the jett and sits in favor of……the Olympian.

You play both young guys and live with the mistakes. at least for now unless both are putrid. There is zero reason not too.

Rasmus Andersson, right handed D, pretty good, fits under the cap, end of season UFA. Might be available sooner. We will see. It’s a very safe bet, after the big Frost trade last year, Briere has at least checked in on him.

he is a real good dman. will have a lot of interest.

help me understand why he would choose to come to the flyers for his last big contract.

By his play Vladar should get this start, but I fully expect Ersson in net. At this rate, Zamula is playing his way out of the top 6 pretty quickly. Undrafted player, who deserves credit for getting this far in his career, but he is trending to be a very fringe 6th Dman. No need to be overly critical with the player, start pointing the finger at the organization cannot figure out a way to build a better top 6 blueline.

after all these years they still cant draft/develop even bottom pair dman.

    agree with vlader and zamula

only lost by a goal to the 2x defending cup champs. go with the same lineup. there physicality can wear down the canes fwd/dman. need continuity.

Coach Taco. The silly flyer nick names never cease to amaze me. where does the taco come from? his mexican roots?

jake is/was a loser. every wonder why no contending teams never had any interest in him despite the numbers he put up?

there is no plan, no path to contention, nothing but hope and luck.

    Nothing but “the Flyers way.”

flyers hockey. born to be a flyer. gold standard.

The flyers think their name carries clout. It doesn’t. these young players today, all they know about the flyers is being losers the last 15 years. This is what they have seen growing up. This is what they have witnessed. Flyers are just simply out of touch with reality.

there was never a rebuild therefore the flyers “had” to keep him. key core player. true flyer.

this is just another wasted year spinning their wheels. until the dumb ass flyers fans wake up and stop going to the games, nothing will change

Said this about the Voracek extension a decade ago. Not that I had a problem with the player, but we were fed the rebuild line at that time as well, and he seemed like an unneeded luxury that could have brought a decent return to help that supposed rebuild along.

Funny thing… the “culture” is there. Problem is, it’s a culture of questionable decisions that really never play out in the Flyers favor.

What we can deduce, however, is that the Flyers didn’t give themselves the best runway for developing a player by selecting Luchanko over a Helenius, for example.

Now that game one is in the books and the Flyers have a day off, how would you rate the technically still a rookie’s performance so far?

“good” enough to make the team then he should be in every game pretty much. especially the 1st one. great development. I know florida is a physical team and all the other nonsensical BS.

I will never fault a guy for taking the bag. that being said you made your bad that’s where you lie. no pearly gates when you die. we tried to teach you didn’t learn. your going down your gonna burn.

all 3 would have got paid no matter where they went. they choose to stay because they are comfortable and complacent. no pressure situation. winning wasnt/isnt a priority for them. this is why they all needed to be moved and cut the cord

This was brought up during Konecny’s extension. It wasn’t that Konecny wasn’t going to get the money from someone, it was whether the Flyers should be the one paying him being at the start of a “rebuild” and years away from contention. Little did we know the “rebuild” would only last 2 years.

    – Its sad how nauseating JJ and bocher have become.

Love hearing JJ say TK ex selke Sanheim are at the stage they want to win now. Wont happen unless they ask for a trade. Hope all 3 are miserable as that is what you have earned when you re-signed.

    – JJ with the brick by brick flyers propaganda. Guess boucher also got his brick by brick talking point.

    – Dvorak with more ice time than MM

    – Same boring bland team. 20 mostly harmless shots.

    – JD is just there, what exactly does he offer?

    – ND with quality play in his 7+ minutes. He is much needed on that bench.

    – Cates looked good. One positive.

    – Goalie gave them a chance.

    – Looking forward to hearing all year how this team works hard, never quits, and all the other flyers nonsense. Like they are the only team with such qualities.

    – There is zero reason to sit the 2 they sat. they both need to play. This is what a “rebuilding” team would do no? however its playoffs or bust for the flyers need that vet presence. Just another short term view approach. Don’t want to hear well its only 1 game. BS either way. Send them both to other leagues if not going to be regulars in the lineup.

I always love hearing that when players take the bag to play for a bad team and then expect the fairy godmother to waive the magic wand. They didn’t care about winning until after they took the money.

I guess they will pump up the offer sheet stuff to make it look like hey we are trying to their delusional fan base.

As soon as laughton was traded I predicted he will end up back in philly. Hayes is also a free agent.

If he doesn’t re-sign with the ducks trouba will be a flyers target.

It does feel like the Flyers plan, if you can call it that, is to keep doing this. The Flyers are pinning their hopes on a franchise center and a franchise dman hitting UFA and then being able to outbid everyone for them.

It’s why I hold little to no hope this franchise will ever progress… just doesn’t seem like there’s anyone in the organizaiton in touch with reality.

the flyers plan to go “big” game hunting in the summer of 2026 seems to be falling by the wayside. can’t wait to see how they pivot off that plan.
