The Winnipeg Jets snapped their 11-game losing streak on Friday night. The team earned a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings at the Canada Life Centre. Eric Comrie turned in his best performance of the season in getting the Jets their first win in 27 days.
Secondary Scoring
After getting very little secondary scoring for half of the season, Winnipeg got three goals from forwards outside their top line on Friday night. It was a welcomed site. Vlad Namestnikov got his 7th goal of the season, and first goal in 30 games. Jonathon Toews finally scored his fourth of the 2025-26 campaign: his first in the last 29 games. Lastly, Cole Koepke notched his third goal of the season.
Scheifele responds to Olympic snub
Despite not making the roster for Team Canada at the Winter Olympics, Mark Scheifele continues to play well. He’s made a very strong case to be the first forward called up to the Canadian roster should there be an injury to any of Team Canada’s selected forward group. On Friday, Scheifele added two more goals to his season log. He is now the team leader with 22 goals on the season, one ahead of linemate Kyle Connor.
Fleury is OK
It was a scary site for all of Winnipeg on Thursday when Hadyn Fleury went hard into the end boards. The back of his head and neck were the principal point of collision. He had to be stretchered off the ice and went straight to the Hospital. Fortunately, he’s since been released from the hospital. However, team doctors will continue to monitor Fleury for concussion symptoms.
Fleury suffered a broken nose and bruised back on the play, which looked much worse than the hopeful prognosis afterwards. Vegas Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar was the player who sent Fleury careening into the wall. It didn’t seem intentional by any means. However, Kolesar still had to drop the gloves with Adam Lowry shortly thereafter.
Fan support still there
Despite not being able to win a game in nearly a month, over 14,000 fans still witnessed the Jets get this long overdue win Friday night.
The Jets are back in action Sunday afternoon for a matinee match-up against the New Jersey Devils. It is game 3 of a 5 game homestand. With Friday’s win, the Jets are now tied with the Vancouver Canucks with 37 points apiece. That’s still the fewest points in the league standings. Both teams have played 43 games.
