The Winnipeg Jets pulled off a stunner Saturday night when they went into the barn of the NHL-leading Colorado Avalanche and defeated them 4-2. It was an impressive victory. The Avalanche toppled the Jets in Winnipeg just two nights earlier. On Saturday, Connor Hellebuyck got the win in goal.

Perfetti heating up

Cole Perfetti scored the game winning goal when he tipped in Jacob Bryson’s point shot with under six minutes left in regulation. He now has points in four straight games. The line of Perfetti with Adam Lowry and Gabe Vilardi holds a stellar expected goals share of 61.9 percent.

Perfetti is a restricted free agent at seasons end. It is still up in the air what kind of contract Perfetti will secure in the offseason.

Koepke earning an extension

Cole Koepke scored his seventh goal of the season in Saturday’s match. He now has 15 points through 57 games playing mainly fourth line minutes. Given that he is only 27 years old and is faster than most of the Jets current forwards, Koepke may get a contract extension with the organization before July.

Despite playing many fewer minutes, Koepke has had similar offensive production to veterans Nino Niederreiter and Vlad Namestnikov. Both Niederreiter and Namestnikov are on the shelf right now. As the Jets inch closer to the final playoff spot, the Jets coaches should be in no rush to bring Niederreiter or Namestnikov back to the line-up anytime soon.

Nine games left with big hurdles to clear

With nine games remaining in the regular season, the Jets are now three points back of the Nashville Predators for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Looking at the standings, both the Los Angeles Kings and Seattle Kraken are in-between the Jets and Predators.

Furthermore, the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues lurk directly below the Jets. Both the Sharks and the Blues have games in hand. Although the odds are still slim for the Jets to make the playoffs, the teams helps its cause with each successive win the rest of the way.

The Jets are back in action Tuesday night when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago has been on the wrong end of a couple lopsided scores lately.
