The Red Wings are on a roll, and there are some unlikely heroes right now. The team lost Lucas Raymond temporarily, but Mason Appleton is stepping up. Appleton is skating on a top line, and has three goals in two games right now.
The team is also getting impressive goaltending from Cam Talbot right now. Talbot has three starts, and coincidentally has collected three wins. The goaltender has posted save percentages of .950 and .952 in his last two outings. Talbot isn’t just steady, indeed he has taken the reins in net.
The Red Wings scoring leaders
In terms of steady play early on, Alex Debrincat and Patrick Kane are making their mark. Debrincat has six assists in four games, meanwhile Kane has two goals and three assists. Those players, combined with Marco Kasper, continue to be a solid line for the Red Wings.
Dylan Larkin, likewise, has two goals and three assists tied for second in points. Appleton is now leading the team with three goals, and his performance has been timely. Before his injury, Raymond was at a steady pace with 2 goals and 1 assist in three games. The was certainly glad that the injury doesn’t seem severe, and Raymond is considered day to day.
A good start so far
The first six games were a massive obstacle, but Detroit has performed admirably. The team is 3-1-0, and those wins have all been within the Atlantic Division. The test does not get easier, as the team will now face Tampa Bay and Edmonton coming up.
After an opening loss against Montreal, there was an inordinate amount of concern. The team was challenged on all sides, and so far they have risen to me that challenge. The players seem confident, and determined to change perceptions surrounding the rebuild. Time will tell, but for now there is a lot of optimism amongst the fan base. It will be up to the team to maintain that good will in the weeks to come.
Wow, a bit of a helter-skelter game, but they pulled it out! Even Chiarot had a decent game! The Bolts could conceivably pick apart this team. Nevertheless , it should be an entertaining game. I think the T-Mac effect has them playing above their paygrade.
It’s been a really fun start, for sure. Talbot’s last two games, wow. .950 and .952. Tampa and Edmonton both have the potential of being a powder keg. At some point, Gibson needs to get in net and those seem like really brutal games to get back in net. McLellan, for sure, doesn’t seem to sugar coat anything. We’re also getting to the halfway point on the ELC guys. Would love to see ASP and MBN get on the board, ASP is getting around 20 minutes a night. Really good to see the kids on the ice figuring it out.
Unexpected wins ! Thank you Talbot, he gives confidence to the rest of the group which can play at their best.
The problem is : do not over-use him otherwise we will lose again… not an easy question, because Gibson will have to prove he can really play or the team will play with fear again and lose, but Talbot is winning, so why change ? Head scratching…
On a long season, it is nice to see unexpected players on the board. Now’s the time for the young ones to score !
