Potential free agent target: Darren Raddysh
Unrestricted free agent Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Darren Raddysh’s name comes up frequently on Flyers fan wish lists for the 2026 off-season. That is solely based on the 30-year-old blueliner’s seemingly out-of-the-blue offensive explosion in 2025-26 (22 goals, 70 points). Not only did Raddysh far surpass his previous NHL highs (six goals, 37 points), he never approached similar offensive stats before in the American Hockey League. The late-blooming offensive defenseman’s junior career highs in the Ontario Hockey League were 16 goals and 81 points as an overager for the Erie Otters’ 2016-17 championship team. Raddysh signed as an undrafted rookie free agent after that season.
Correspondingly, there’s a “buyer beware” sense that some get about whether Raddysh can carry over his success to a team with less stacked offensive firepower. He’s average to slighty above-average all-around defenseman — a bit above-average as a puck mover, average as a defender. His shot is his biggest asset, however.
There’s a not-insignificant concern that Raddysh gets overpaid on a multi-year contract in this summer’s thin free agent market. There’s more cap liquidity for one thing. The free agent pool on the whole is underwheming for another.
Conversely, if Raddysh approaches his 2025-26 offensive production for some years to come, he’d justify the cap dollars he’s about to get (even if he’s more of a number four or five defenseman at 5-on-5). However, depending on how many suitors he has, Raddysh’s next contract could fall in the $7.5 million to $9 million contract range on a team with five or more term years.
From most indications, the Flyers prefer to look shorter term for their attempt to fill a power play quarterback role.

Team Toyota Draft Spotlight: William Håkansson

In Thursday’s Team Toyota Draft Spotlight, we have looked at USHL center Jack Hextall, BU center Tynan Lawrence, Swedish blueliner Malte Gustafsson, QMJHL center/winger Maddox Dagenais of the Quebec Remparts, incoming BU center Caleb Malhotra, and Swedish defenseman: William Håkansson.
Today, is a two-for-one: twin brothers Liam and Markus Ruck of the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers.
Markus, a playmaking center, racked up 87 assists among his 108 points. Liam, who is slightly higher ranked, is a winger. Liam scored 45 goals and 104 points. The brothers are of comparable size (listed at 6-foot-0 and around 175 round). They turned 18 on February 21. Liam is ranked 20th among North American skaters by Central Scouting. Markus is 23d. Craig Button has Liam 10th and Markus 16th on his final “Craig’s List”.
Of the two, Liam is notes for his anticipation, finisharound the net, forechecking tenacity, and potential to kill penalties There’s more question about Markus’s ceiling if separated from his twin brother. However, both have middle-six upside. While it seems that twin brothers often end up as NHL teammates (either right out of the Draft or within a year or two of turning pro), there’s no guarantee that an NHL team orchestrates a way to take both Ruck brothers.
