ParticipantTomorrow I’ll have a full piece on Rookie Camp — everything you need to know in one place. Thanks as always for your support! Which prospect are you most excited to watch? Let me know, and I’ll do my best to cover it.
Looking forward to your post on rookie camp, Frenchy…….. If I’m limited to one guy to watch and or preview it would be Spellacy. It’s just so so hard to find a power player that kinda speed. They’re rare and this kid has a chance. His EP page is nuts as he played low level hockey in the Cleveland area which I’ve seen live. Maybe 10 HS games and saw the Barons play the NTDP way back when and although it ain’t too too bad it ain’t now hockey hotbed. Don’t think he had 50 games of hockey at his EP page and straight outa there he made a Major Junior team!! That’s nuts and something that catches your attention.
He’s still raw but the eye test says he’s made solid improvement and IMO kid started looking the part. Kid is big, really fast, lik3es to play the body and maybe best of all his loves Tom Wilson and tries to pattern his game after him.. Curious what you’d guess his ceiling is, Frenchy? If I had to guess today he has a middle 6 ceiling.
And you gotta look at Lardis too. I watched a good bit of Brantford the last 2 yrs and, wow. Like Spellacy, who brings something coveted and scarce,, this guy has a super high goal scoring IQ with a fantastic shot that gets off his stick in a blink. Game slows down for this kid. .. Kid has real speed he knows how to use. He’s general dangerous and unlike our NHL generational phenom this kid gets wood on his one timers, it’s off in a blink and is very accurate. ……… 70 goals man, in the OHL!! Drafted in rd 3. You get these kinds drafted outa rd 1to produce in the NHL and your gonna make some noise.
Wish Kancerov was here.

ParticipantHere’s a comment I made to a Frenchy article about Bertuzzi:
Bertuzzi was a “do something” signing.
He was an erratic knucklehead all season, same as he’s always been.
It’s tough to say this about a $5.5mm player, but they need to put him in the right situations so he can succeed.
He needs to remain on the PP, because he does create some confusion around the net.
But for heaven’s sake, keep him off Bedard’s line.
Just in his time w/Bedard before Xmas, I saw him fail to finish a good 7 or 8
open looks Bedard served him. Whiffed, shanked, missed the net, or shot into the goalie’s chest, he did it all.Any improvement he makes from last year would be like finding money on the sidewalk.
I would really love to see him step it up. He has decent hands, he can finish those chances in close, and he tries to battle (gets knocked on his rear a lot) but it would be good to see him just bring a more complete game a little bit. Or maybe if things go well he can be delegated to 3rd line.

Hoping Moore makes the big club this season. I’m looking forward to see Lardis perform too, but he’s probably destined for a year at Rockford. Hopefully both make the transition from NCAA and Juniors to pro and become useful pieces down the road.

ParticipantIt’s not letting me quote you, Dots…. Oh for sure, a place with proper software and format is really appreciated but you add a blogger with a multi layered background with a good hockey mind and can write you’ve found the penthouse.
Where’s Chunk, Dots?
Don’t know maybe him and Paul are stuck in the interweb.
Chunk is a good poster as is Paul but the back and forth between you and Chunk keeps a place on its toes… Hopefully both guys find their way over.

ParticipantStill really slow in this forum. I was hoping it’d be a couple pages per day like HB still was even a few weeks ago.
These things take time, Assman. A new forum and this is the absolute slowest time for NHL chatter and message board participation.. Things start to get fun this weekend though with Hawk prospects at the Kurvers tournament. Can’t wait. ……… But, IMO it’s all about the blogger and man, Frenchy seems to be the goods. These kind of excellent hockey minds get found and attract people.
It’ll grow.
Honestly it’s just nice to have someone cover the Blackhawks
