Lots of noise around Leafs and Werenski, if they were able to pull that off without sending Knies…yeah…not likely.

Here’s a list of things that would make the Leafs better in the short term that probably won’t happen.
Trade Andrae, Robertson and Rielly to SEA for McCann.
Trade Stolarz to VGK for Adin Hill + 1st in 2028.

PK4 – Matthews, KniesThis line-up gives the Leafs very specialized offensive and defensive roles. The top-six take all the O-Zone FOs and play the PP while staying away from the D-Zone at all costs. The bottom-six take all the D-Zone FOs and play the PK. This reduces the wear and tear on Matthews and Tavares to keep them healthy. Bottom-six plays regular shifts and roll all four lines to increase physicality, forecheck, O-Zone time and create energy. Defensive pairings are balanced and no single pairing plays too much or too little while sticking to defined roles for offensive and defensive situations.
Werenski wants Tampa Bay. Makes perfect sense why they dumped Raddysh.
Will be interesting to see what current roster players go the other way but a top four of Werenski, Hedman, Moser and Cernak with McDonagh and Vasilevski behind them all is a serious wall of defense.
One has to consider the possibility that Knies himself (or his agent) has requested a trade quietly and that’s why he is being shopped around so hard. Perhaps he feels like McKenna will take his ice time away on the 1st line and on the PP and he prefers to play on another team in a top line role. Hopefully that isn’t the case but it’s possible.
Penguins made a pretty good deal to get Korczak. Leafs should have acquired him to fill the hole left by Carlo as a 3rd pair RHD who can kill penalties. Korczak is a big body, only 25 and would have fit nicely into the line-up better than Stecher as a defensive option.
Not a bad draft for the leafs by all accounts
They made a mess of their goalie picks. Better ranked goalies were available and the Leafs took two nobodies. That was a mistake. They could have had the #1 ranked goalie in the draft and the Sharks got him instead. Sharks won the draft big time.
flip side, they Leafs havent had a D as good since….Salming?
i know it doesnt happen without Knies going the other way..but yeah. there is like 3 or 4 D i would trade Knies for and he is one of themPlug one hole to create another. It’s a dumb lateral trade.
Moving Nylander makes more sense because they can replace him with McKenna. There is no internal immediate replacement for Knies.
And Werenski could be a two year rental unless they get a guarantee he signs an extension or he and Matthews could leave together. Not worth it for Knies plus the farm.
Could there be a goalie deal to be had with New Jersey?
They kinda need a goalie and Stolarz could fit there needs.Yeah there’s a couple of unproven goalies there but how else are going to get the experience.
I’m think the Leafs will go after Bob. 4×7.5 ishIf Bob comes to Toronto, Stolarz stays. They’re friends.
Bob wants 6 or 7 years, that’s why Florida said bye.
