ParticipantHe’s likely got a shot at 4C behind EP40 Rossi Raty or off to Abby. Like to see him impress & let Cootes stay in Abby. Hoping Chytil is a winger.

ParticipantYes that’s good takes. Again F logjam needs attention. 4th line is easy enough to put together. Novotny now he is interesting yes. Boeser DeBrusk Leki none are play drivers or F1 puck hounds. 1 has to go can live with 2 if RJ sees it that way. I like my top 2 lines to have a fast 3rd wheel to disrupt & win pucks. A play driver/playmaker & trigger man. 3rd line to be fast & smothering pressure.
I’m eager to see how this Safonov looks in camp.

ParticipantPeople seem to be higher on Lekkerimaki than me. Fair enough.
I think SW will be a upgrade on Lekker. I don’t look at it as giving up a young player… I see it as upgrading a prospect. Quantity is good for the prospect pool but quality is even better.
A C carries more value & his wheels add even more. I just don’t know about either. SW hasn’t really shown much but I’d put that on Seattle poor development. Leki injuries hide what he is or could be. For no reason I’d give SW as higher ceiling & Leki 25-30 goal potential. Imo both teams should hold off & start the season with both then revisit any potential trade. Making assumptions that Boeser Debrusk Karlsson & Chytil are top 6 wingers leaves Leki as a 3rd liner. Something like this.
Chytil EP40 Karlsson (had chemistry with EP)
DeBrusk Rossi Boeser
Ohgren Raty Lekerimaki
Cotter Safonov DOC
GallagherCootes could push for a spot but Abby & a call up more likely for development. DeBrusk needs to go cuz if the F logjam. If SW in & Leki & DeBrusk out something like this.
Ohgren EP40 Karlsson
Chytil Rossi Boeser
DOC SW Gallagher
Cotter Raty Sasson
SafonovJust spitballin lines I envision
Listening to Cam Robinson today when he was asked if they will use their 19 y/o exemption for Cootes to start in the AHL or does he have a shot at the NHL? He felt AHL probably but think Novotny may have a shot at making the Canucks. NHL size, wheels and shot. OHL might not be best for him and he’s not eligible for college hockey. To be honest, I pondered this already. Cootes in Abby, Novotny NHL. Cootes may be further ahead but this is a way to keep them both developing at a higher level at the same time.
In Lekker… I see a NHL shot… but not much after that. Skinny and frail and not a very intelligent game… more a PP specialist than anything. Skating is OK… but not a standout. Hope I’m wrong and to be honest, like you pointed out, how do you get a good read with all the injuries. That in itself is a read though.

ParticipantYou’d hope the Canucks do it right this time, but who knows with this owner? After following this team for over 50 years the apathy has been increasing the last decade or so. The best thing FA can do is stay away from management and let them do their jobs. Two or three more years of finishing bottom 5 and adding high character players who want to play in Canada will be critical. That said my expectations are not very high these days.
It’s all on the owner for sure. Even though I’m a little bit frank about the people hired, I’m being critical of ownership being near sighted on his investment. Spend some more now to insure you have a great product later. The AHL front office they have put together is more likely to make mistakes… and possibly already have.

ParticipantKeep in mind that this management and group of coaches has been selected not for rebuilding success, but for cost savings. RJ and MM both lowest paid in the league and promoted from within for that reason. Any success will be a bonus to the owner but make no mistake, that comes second to the savings.
Look at why it didnt work out with Gold. He wanted market salary… he wanted to overhaul our failing group of fucktards for his own guys and all at market value. He wanted to do what this team needs… competent people at all levels. With the new position filings, we get inexperience at all levels instead with positions that Gold would have added still absent. Will they succeed? Historically, they will fail in their first and perhaps 2nd attempts at their respective jobs before gaining that needed experience. I know some will comment about negativity but it’s just the reality of the situation.
I would feel better with the overhaul Gold wanted. We still have much of the staff who sucked ass at their jobs. I doubt we would have the coach and his son on the same team. Something that seems so ridiculous after the poison room the team had over the last couple of seasons. Now the potential is sitting right there like the last couple of years wasn’t a lesson enough… and this is what I mean… inexperience or just arrogance? They are going to have a room full of players who can’t be honest with each other about the coach or blow off steam with Caleb in the room. How is it going to affect Caleb if and when the fans and media do their thing and apply their outrage on Manny… or the other way round if Caleb is not living up to what could be inflated expectations… something this market is always guilty of(hating a player for not meeting unrealistic expectations). What about little tiffs involving Caleb… too easy for it to become personal when he’s the coaches kid. One year in school the teachers kid was in our class. Human nature made it tough on this kid… Lots of spite percolating. In hind sight, he didnt get special treatment… but people hated him for it.
The big test will be how much they resist the owner when he starts declaring the team has rebuilt enough and wants to rush into the playoffs. Seeing as the Canucks top staff have all been promoted from within and been on his payroll for decades, I doubt there will be any pushback. The voices are unified on this group right now… but I think there is a lot of short sightedness happening already. same as always.

ParticipantGranted they need a C. But the room and the impression he leaves on the kids? Get him off the team.
