ParticipantMerry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

ParticipantBased on points percentage, Hawks with the worst record and in the #1 draft choice slot. Just a week or so ago, the Hawks were in a playoff position. The standings are currently tightly bunched and a winning streak would surely move them out of the basement. With Bedard and now Nazar injured that streak is easier said than done.
With all that said, the WJC torunament begins Friday. Good time to watch some of the potential top draft picks – McKenna, Verhoeff, and Stenberg to name a a few.

ParticipantGood call, Frenchy, on the Kraken trading Marchment. He was traded to the Blue Jackets last night for a 2nd and 4th round picks.
Danault also traded from the Kings to the Canadiens. LA gets a 2nd back. Good article here about the Habs taking the next step in their rebuild by trading away assets to get a player that help them now and next year.

Participant15 SOG tonight. Poor performance. Will the Hawks win a game before Bedard returns from injury?

ParticipantThis team is tough to watch without Bedard.

ParticipantThanks for keeping the conversation going Frenchy. Let’s hope that 2nd line of Lardis, Greene and Moore meshes together well and gives us a good glimpse of what the future holds. Also, in Bedard’s absence, it’s time for Nazar to step it up along with the veteran cadre of Bertuzzi, Burakovsky, TT, Dickinson, Mikheyev and Donato providing some goal scoring.
Finally, a good opportunity for DelMastro as Lev serves his penance. I hope he has a good game. Maybe if he cements a position, Grzylec or Murphy will become eventual trade bait.

ParticipantThanks Frenchy. As I commented in your latest Hawks 10 game recap (https://hockeyhotstove.com/blackhawks-10-game-report-card-games-21-30/) this will be a good time for the youths like Nazar, Moore, Greene Levshunov et al to to step up their game in Bedard’s likely absence, show they belong, and learn how not to depend on one player leading the team.

ParticipantDad Gummit. That Bedard injury is not good news. If he is gong to be out for an extended period, say good bye to the season and his possible Olympic participation.
The offense is really going to suffer since he’s been involved in 44 of the team’s 91 goals – just about half. Time for Nazar to put on his big boy pants and start contributing.

ParticipantWhat happened to West playing for Michigan State?
He is still a senior in high school and will enroll at MSU next year.

ParticipantThe game is easy when you put together 3 good periods. Good first by the Hawks but Shesterkjn makes a couple of incredible saves to keep them off the board. Hawks finally have a good second and take a 2-] lead. Nice shortie by Ctevier to get the Hawks on the board. Bertuzzi goal and solid net minding by Knight rounds out the game.

ParticipantBrossoit in goal for the Hogs tonight. They are down 2-0 in the 2nd.

Participantwas just curious since we are so far under the cap for next year, i imagine the Blackhawks will be paying the max bonus to Connor Bedard and I’m sure other ELC players will be getting a bonus, can the Blackhawks count that money towards next years cap hit?
Don’t think so Dots. From an article I read the bonuses are applied to the cap as soon as they are earned. If, at the end of year there’s not enough cap space to absorb the bonuses, then the balance is rolled over to the next year.
Per Puckpedia, Hawks are sitting 20M under the cap as of now. Total bonus payout for the players on ELC are:
Bedard 1M “A” bonuses, 2.5M “B” bonuses = 3.5M total
Nazar 900K “A”
Moore 600K “A”
Greene 750K “A”
Rinzel 500K “A”
Levshunov 1M “A” , 2.25M “B” = 3.25M total“A” bonuses are for reaching various plateaus within the team for goals, assists, points, TOI, +/-
“B” awards are for winning league awards or finishing in the top 10 in scoring among forward or d-men.Even if all the young players somehow achieve all their bonuses, the total above is about 9.5M well under the cap space the Hawks have for this season.

ParticipantThanks for the recap Frenchy.
Looks like Bedard will definitely cash in on his ELC “A” bonuses and in the running for some of the “B”‘s. Not only is he putting up points but he makes the players surrounding him (Greene, Burakovsky, Bertuzzi etc) better.
Hopefully Dickinson stays healthy and continues to play a strong defensive game. Assuming th he Hawks are out of contention, he might be a decent trade chip for a playoff team wanting some 3C and PK help.
I read where Hart may get the start for the Knights Tuesday. He should be rusty so maybe the Hawks will have another good offensive game. Then 2 games against the defensive minded Kings.
