Rielly has given the Leafs 4 Western Teams he’d accept a trade to.
I think they are: Anaheim, LA, San Jose and Seattle.

Flames just paid two 1st round picks for Nemec. Not their own but still. Glad the Leafs didn’t do that.

New Jersey Devils acquire a 2026 2nd-round pick (NYR), a 2027 1st-round pick (VGK), a 2028 1st-round pick (COL), and Etienne Morin from the Calgary Flames for Simon Nemec and Maxim Tsyplakov

No, actually, it seems to stipulate that the Leafs decide whether or not if the Flyers get the pick or if the Bruins get it if it lands in the top 10 and the other gets an unprotected 2028 1st round pick. The 2027 and the 2028 1st round picks are gone, no matter what. It’s just up to the Leafs to decide who gets what.

My argument is that if the Leafs blow up the team, the vast number of pieces they get in return mitigates losing the picks and is also time sensitive because if they wait too long to blow up the team, they’ll get significantly less pieces AND ALSO lose their 1st round picks which would set back the Leafs years. Blowing up the team is the significantly lesser of the two evils and if done correctly could turn the team around quicker than expected much like Montreal went from 1st overall to Conference Finals rather quickly.

Top 5 protected, slides to 2027. The 2027 pick goes to Philadelphia (as part of Laughton trade) if it is outside the top 10, which converts this pick to Boston to a 2028 unprotected 1st Round Pick. If this Pick slides to 2027 and is in the top 10, TOR can either transfer it to BOS to satisfy this trade and then give PHI the 2028 unprotected, or transfer it to PHI and give BOS the 2028 unprotected 1st Round Pick.

    Yup, Just like I said.

Matthews and Nylander with 50% retained along with everything else of value the Leafs have could bring in 12-15 1st round picks.

The UFA class is ripe for overpayment, as the Leafs already did with Raddysh. The Leafs best bet is to load up on defensive forwards for the bottom six, specifically FO winning experts. You use them exclusively in the D-Zone so Matthews and Tavares don’t ever have to play defense. If the season goes south, you sell off everybody like they did with Roy, Laughton, McMann etc.

This isnt GM mode on the PS5….why the hell would the leafs retain a minimum of 12$ of wasted cap space? Who is giving up 6 -7 1st rounders? Thats so fucking stupid and unrealistic.
Also, the leafs do not have their 1st rounders for the next two years and they need players to fill the line up….they cant sell off everyone.

    Get back to reality[/quote]

Well, the Leafs still have their 2027 1st rnd pick to Philli which is top 10 protected according to the NHL.

But why do the Leafs need Hayton and why does Utah want to get rid of him? Chayka draftees mostly suck. Look at Maccelli.

He’s not really a shutdown center, he’s 26 so he’s not super high on potential and he had 10 goals, 25 points. And that’s WITH 2 min of PP time per game. That’s a giant meh. And an RFA.

I don’t see the benefit or the point in giving up assets to acquire Hayton unless Utah takes back Maccelli or Robertson as a 1 for 1 swap of RFAs.

Blueger would be lower on my list but an option if the others disappear. Would much prefer Jenner, Sissons, Acciari and Stenlund. All 4 could probably be signed for 12 million.

Leafs needs a few C and Chayka like him. He did score 20 and 19 goals the years prior t this season ending and could be a cheap add to the Leafs.
Utah has other C in the pipeline that will need ice time such as Iginla, Beaudoin and Smith. So he is expendable

Hayton could also be a dark horse as a C the Leafs pursue.
    He was a Chayka draftee.

Blueger could be another option as well if he makes it to UFA status.

    MacTavish and Zellweger

Robertson Carlo Colorado 1st and Stolarz🤔

I don’t think we’d get Zellweger as well for the above.
