ND is not an asset on the ice.

Simmonds was a fine and consistent player with 6 20+ goal seasons. Simon was good for a while but became an absolute league-wide safety hazard over time and things ended tragically for him. Neither are really good comps. A fairer comp: Gadjovich who Florida somehow found a lineup spot for in every conference finals and Cup finals game last year.

I’m not sure where you are going with this? You talked about the Flyers stats last year so i talked about the coach last year.

Sullivan on Torts : I want you to reveal yourself to the players and the other coaches. I want you to show the John Tortorella that I know, that my wife knows, that my kids know, that your kids know, that you don’t show the world very often.

This also just in: 19 guys with the team this year played for the Flyers last year.

He’s a complicated man but no one understands him like his woman. John Shaft? No, John Tortorella. Nice to see Sullivan coaching Torts up. Again, he’s gone and the Rags will finish worse than the Flyers this year.

exactly, thanks for proving my point.

So you’re OK with a designated fighter if they can score 18 goals? Good to know.

Not overestimating anything. There is nothing there. They have a piss poor defense on paper. To argue otherwise is flat out wrong. They have 2 players (the only 2 who will be around in a few years unless moved) on D who other teams would want and help a team. Arguably you can say seeler and JD may help some team’s bottom pair.

Again, how you try to rationalize this grouping baffles the mind.

There is no rationalization. Sanheim, York, Risto, Drysdale, Seeler and Mister 6 are not the Florida D corps but they aren’t piss poor either. Piss poor is Chicago’s defense even with the future Norris winner Levshunov.

I think you mentioned earlier in the offseason that your only concern is the current year? If that’s the case, why do you care and keep talking about cup contention? The Flyers sure as hell aren’t winning it this year and you don’t care about what’s on the horizon.
Will the Flyers be better than Chicago this year? Probably. If that’s all you care about then you win.

Cup contention is a marathon, not a sprint.

My only concern? I don’t remember that. I do want to see good, competitive hockey THIS year. How is that a bad thing? The biggest threat to that this year is injuries bunching up at a specific position. Depth is not a strength. There’s already cause for concern there with 2 of their top 4 Dmen down.

You want an ND “type” in the lineup fine. Get one who can play, contribute, and not hurt your team. Not a total stiff who offers nothing.

I said they will be contenders before the flyers. get back to me when I am proven wrong.

How many are out there? Olivier has made himself into a good player. Xhekaj is an adequate 3rd pair Dman. In the year 2057, pigs will fly. Get back to me when I’m proven wrong.

ND is not role player. Her is a fucking stiff. Has no business on a nhl roster. Why you can’t accept that and try to rationalize why he does is baffling.

Did I say or indicate the hawks were near playoff or cup contention. I did not.

No, the flyers are not willing to take their lumps. Flyer’s failure is not by design but by incompetence.

No, it doesn’t matter. Explain to me how it does going forward?

Hahaha! Yeah, OK. ND is a role player, a designated fighter. Some teams still carry them. FLA dresses theirs pretty well every night plus a lot of other chippy players.

You indicated you think CHI is closer to cup contention than the Flyers. Why? Bedard? Frondell will be a good player for them eventually. The rest looks bad. Way worse than the Flyers.

Carolina proved to be a bad matchup last year. Flyers need to end that Saturday.

Disagree. You have a 2nd pair and 2 bottom pairs. Easily in the bottom 10 in the league. Time will teel what they have in JD. Going to be interesting to see what they do with him in terms of re-signing him. His play one will hope will dictate what they do.

They have nothing on the horizon to get even remotely excited about. Nothing.

The Flyers are still a cut well below the Top D groupings in the league which, not surprisingly, are the defenses for the top teams in the league. You’re overestimating the rest. Flyers were 8th in the league in fewest shots allowed last year. It’s a curious stat considering their overall record, but . . . there’s something there. Of course they could just forfeit all the games this season and try again next year.

Florida is loving it seeing his name in the lineup. As will every team. means flyers playing shorthanded. Just another archaic flyer failed philosophy. I am thrilled hope he plays a lot for pure entertainment purposes. Also hope no other team engages with him. He will be a great trade piece as teams will love to have a guy like him come playoff time right. maybe the flyers can get s 2nd rd pick.

I will take what Chicago has and is building over the flyers. Unlike the flyers they are rebuilding. They are willing to take their lumps. They will be back on the cup contention winning path before the flyers.

Who cares what their record was against them last year. Means nothing. Just like if they win all the games this year, means nothing. Flyer fans always try to find some shining light.

Deslauriers looked pretty uneven in camp. Bad game, OK game, bad game, OK game. He’s a role player. He’s not there to win you games. That’s what the top of the lineup is for. They need a little more scoring than they’ve been getting. Whatever chemistry is being built needs to turn into chemical reactions that turn into goals.

The Flyers haven’t taken their lumps the last three years? Chicago is still pretty bad and will be at least a couple more years. At least they got Knight in the Seth Jones trade to help in goal. They are nowhere near playoff contention let alone the Cup.

Then I guess the fact the Flyers went 0-3 for a combined score of 15-5 against Carolina last year doesn’t matter either.

Yes and uses tippet as the return. Would you do that if you are buffalo?

No, they need at least 2 top 4 guys, preferably a legit top pair. One isn’t going to cut it at all. Do not agree at all they look ok. Seeler and JD as a 2nd pair is laughable. JD showed me nothing that he will take a step to be a legit top 4 dman. They are both bottom pair guys on any contending team; if that. Should have moved Seeler when he had value. Dumb just dumb to re-sign him for 4 years.

When healthy, this is not terrible:

    York-Sanheim
    Ginning-Risto
    Seeler-Drysdale

Drysdale looked far more stable and reliable in his own end through camp than he did last season. That’s a good thing as I ideally had him penciled in as a 3rd pair guy with some PP time. Seeler is OK, he was out there for some bad goals in camp when he was paired with guys, namely Grans, who didn’t make the cut. My biggest concerns right now are Zamula, who throws the puck away too much and isn’t bearing down on locking guys up in close quarters, and Ersson, who is still giving up a softy a game which isn’t acceptable.

absolutely love it. flyers homer writers are the best. cant wait to see what hayes level player they overpay and prop up. remember when they tried to make hayes the face of the franchise, I member.

all the “big” names will be gone and not even make it to free agency. love their base core, lol. funny how tippet is now thrown out there in trades.

Writer did drop Byram’s name which has come up regularly in relation to Flyers interest. They really do need one more Top 4 guy. I was actually impressed with noticeable step ups through camp from York and, more importantly, Drysdale. So when fully healthy, which may or may not happen often, I think the Flyers D looks OK for a team coming out of a valley. The bad stuff I see out there doesn’t seem like system unfamiliarity, just individual gaffes.

flyers will do anything to justify playing nd.

Anyways, ND was a bad long term signing for a 4th line (with modified NTC) as an aging enforcer in a league moving away from fighting when he was signed and he’s even more useless now.

ND is playing vs. Florida, won’t play vs. CAR. Hope you’re not too disappointed. If you think the Flyers D looks bad, you should have watched Chicago’s yesterday. Knight in goal was the only thing that kept them from being blown out. Flyers had a respectable 1-1-1 record against FLA last year. FLA is banged up up front, Flyers are banged up on D. Should be fun.

if that isnt putrid then what is?

    Sanhiem- juulson
    Seeler – jd
    Zamula – ginning

I think Zamula and Juulsen are the 3rd pair, and that could be stress inducing. They still have to play the games. Might hold up short term. It’s not a long term solution.

Need to give to get. Who of quality is even available. They will probably get some 6’4 slug to fit the flyers profile. Then hype him up to an extent.

The defense is downright putrid. Now that York is hurt it will be that much worse. In no order. That is ugly as sin.

    Sanhiem- juulson
    Seeler – jd
    Zamula – ginning

Ginning is playing the best of the bottom end D. I can see him paired with Sanheim and then Zamula and Juulsen. The Flyers D is not great healthy. They need another Top 4 guy, which I’ve been saying is a big need since before free agency over the summer.

Three wins in PS, none in regulation, all in shootouts. Gilbert gets waived, roster is set. Grebenkin, Abols, Luchanko, Juulsen, Ginning make the roster. We’ll see how it goes.
