The comparables iv seen a few people make for Mckenna is Patrick Kane. which would be totally fine, Leafs luck into a 70-80pt player.

Nothing much will happen until the draft and free agency. I’m still a proponent of taking the best player available, which the consensus pick being McKenna. The issue with trading down, you get into a scenario like 2016. The first overall pick, Matthews vs the second overall pick, Lainie. Same could be said about 1984, when Lemieux went first overall and Kirk Muller went number 2. Take the first pick and bank it as a cornerstone of your franchise. If you Fuck around, you find out.

I agree its just risky to get cute and trade down or pick another player #1 like one of the Dmen.
from the sounds of it, this is a bit stronger draft overall, at least top 10. but no clear #1 no brainer which makes it tough

this is good….but just words for now

If the Leafs took on Petterson’s full cap hit, maybe a straight up trade for Rielly could work. The gamble could work if Petterson regains his scoring prowess and in a year, he could be tradeable or better yet, an asset. It would make it feasible to move Matthews for a boat load of talent and draft capital. With the proper moves and a bit of luck, the retool could restructure the Leafs quicker than we think. Petterson with Nylander and pick your left winger, either Knies or McKenna and you have something.

I was thinking to keep AM, at least for the rest of his contract, a couple play makers like EP and Mckenna would help.
Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Petterson, Mckenna, Knies decent 6.

Its the D that is the Challenge to fix

Andersson and Marchment would be fine targets.

I also proposed this yesterday, iv Van wanted to move Elias Petterson, a Rielly (plus whatever) for EP if Van would retain a couple mil. gets his cap to 9.6
would be a good 2/3 Center with JT. and maybe he regains a bit of scoring.

I think he does want out now as the Over Drive panel were talking about it.
It was someothing like if this team isn’t competitive than trade me.
I think if that happens, Nylander is surely to follow him out the door.

Leafs really dont have a choice now but to try and get back to the playoffs.
I am not convinced Matthews wants out, and I understand if he wants to be on a team that is going for it.

I think you keep him (and Nylander) for this coming season and see how it plays out. And if you cant sign AM, you move him after the season or TDL whatever.

Having #1 pick changes a lot

McKenna is not good enough to fix this team by himself

iv never seen anyone say that. why do you keep saying it. nobody is thinking 1 player fixes a team.
a #1 pick in your hand is better than 2 unknowns. they werent rebuilding yet anyway.

Having #1 gives a lot more options and opens lots of interesting possibilities, if they chose to go that route

Imagine being so blinded by homerism that you can’t see the Leafs are still absolutely fucked and this pick is simply delaying the rebuilding process that is necessary.

Biggest losers since 1967 for a reason anybody in hockey has ever seen.

one day they will tank and rebuild and hopefully get a #1 pick that rebuilding teams need

    Mckenna or Stenberg…no other options
    unless trading for Mcdavid

Or trade Matthews to SJ for #2 pick ++
