If healthy and with Marner, there’s a very good chance Matthews could score 60+ again. That’s why they re-signed him. You think you keep a player at that price if you think he’s NEVER going to be able to do it again?

Marner would have stayed at 14, which was a discount to the 12 he got in Vegas which would have been 16.5 in Toronto. And they should have signed him.

The cap went up 7 AAV. Trade Rielly, Jarnkrok, Kampf etc. and they could have created more cap space. With Tavares and Marner at 4 and 14, it still would have been less than the nearly 22 they cost last year.

The Leafs decided they had to move on because of the idiots in the media and the idiots in the fanbase screaming for change. Now they got change; they got worse.

I said its not likely, thats not “NEVER”, a modern NHL’er having 3, 60 goal seasons is super rare…so its not likely.

Marner was gone regardless, just listen to his own words now that hes in Vegas.
get over it, hes a big boy made his choice.

Marner couldnt take the criticism when he failed to help the team, not cut out for it in Toronto.

I asked this way before he left and I’ll ask it again, what team out there lost a 100 point Selke nominated player for basically nothing and then won the Cup afterwards

has a selke nominated 100 point player ever changed teams before?
I doubt thats ever happened to start with, so not possible to win a cup

if it has happened, who was it?
    otherwise what a stupid question

its not likley Matthews would score 60 again whether Marner was there or not.
Matthews is the only player to do it twice in the last 30 years and anyone who did it 3 times, played in the 80s

    Ovechkin only did it once.

Marner did not want to re-sign, and wouldnt let the Leafs trade him (his right), but still fucking annoying if he was leaving anyway.
no point crying over it. hes gone

So I’m just looking things over and here’s a little interest.

    Maccelli: $3.43 million (40P estimate)
    Roy: $3 million (30P estimate)

Find another guy for $3 million who can dump 30P in and bang, there’s Marner’s 100P replaced for $9.43 million while offering far more balanced scoring.

while I dont buy the, you have to replace Marners 100 points thing. there is more too it. Like the 2 players you mention take other players spots or push others down..who would have also produced.

but these are the /82 game production for them
    Macelli 46
    Roy 38 (41 over past 4 seasons)

Both those are prob on the low side, but maybe they dont play full 82

Yup. It’s a long shot, but it’s still a shot. I’m sure he’s not happy losing in back to back Cup finals, I’m sure he’s not happy losing in 6 vs 7 (step back for their team) and I’m sure he’s not happy with how free agency has gone. They lost a lot of guys and replaced them with only Mangiapane. They haven’t addressed the tendie situation at all, and other teams in their division loaded up. Plus, LA has a guaranteed ticket to lose in the finals with Perry.

like Tavres to the Leafs was a long shot, I thought there was like 2% chance.
Also I never thought Marner would leave either.

keeping a lot of space for a certain player im sure a bit of it. and i think you have to until its no longer an option

It’s going to be a shame having to trade them Michael Pezzata so that we don’t get busted for tampering.

Kampf for Mcd, the trade is 1 for 1

It’s starting to look like the leafs are looking to use short term contracts this year unless it’s a core guy. As it stands 5 forwards are done after this year. I won’t be shocked if that’s all the leafs do to fill out the roster because there is nothing they currently see available that they consider a long term solution.

Yeah they have a bit of space but they also need to sign Robertson, he should be cheap though. Kampf, Reavo, Jarnkrok could be moved.

Im hoping the Leafs make a trade to upgrade something, Robertson could be used with some other stuff.

So the Leafs have 5.8 in cap space.
but if you punt Kampf and remove Reaves, that bumps up to 9.5 or so

Weird spot for the Leafs to be, having lots of cap space

    Nazeeeeeem!

In true Leafs fashion, run a guy out of town at his best and his cheapest for a pile of shit in return, then bring him back after he’s won a Cup somewhere else and is washed and overpaid.

Kadri had more goals last season than he ever had with the Leafs.

older, but not sure Washed is the best description

Rielly is unmoveable, he’ll play out the rest of his contract in the Blue and White. But, if Tre somehow moved him and replaced him with Provorov, he’d be an instant legend.

oh I know, but im not going to type that out for every MR post where I trade him

    8×6.1m for Ekblad just laughable

3 goals, 33 points, history of concussions. Leafs dodged a bullet. They would have had to pay 9-10 to get him to leave that paradise situation.

I didnt mean leafs missed out.
never thought he was on the Leafs radar.

but id have swapped him out for Rielly

With Barkov seemingly signing for roughly $6M, the Cats are going to find a way to keep Marchand.

Tell me again how no tax states aren’t a massive advantage?

probably, send someone to ltir, give brad 3x6m

Maccelli had a .975 PDO last season and sh% drop, for someone who looks at plus minus (dumb stat) thats a good buy low candidate
