Leafs have $13m in cap and desparately need to improv their bottom 6.
Wasting $8m – 9m on Marchand is simply not a good idea and honestly doesnt move the needle much come playoff time as it would take cap away from getting quality bottom 6 players.
Sign P Kane if you can, get some quality players for the bottom 6 on short term deals. Save most of the cap for next off seasonKane is also 36
Leafs have 14.5 in space, if you dont count Myers. But could also move a couple players to make more room.
37 years old. Hes not the answer for $8 – $9m and hes simply not a top/2nd line player on a playoff team that wants to win the cup.
Just another player the leafs will miscast.Leafs need the player who elevate in the playoffs. Id hope that Tre wouldnt hand out a stupid deal. if its too much, then sure pass and move on.

Sorry but marchand on the top line just isnt a good idea, the only reason he was effective with the panthers was because he was on the 3rd line.
$6m for marchand or he can piss off. Leafs will be screwed if they sign him for anything more than that…..he’s 37 for crying out loud.
I hope to hell marchand is not a leaf.Id be fine with Marchand also, I dont care so much now about where he plays. its about lining up for the playoffs. His line played against tough matchups wasnt just softies.
Leafs just need to build out 3 lines that are tough to play against.
Hague trade brings in Sissons (another bottom 6C). Roy to Toronto seems more likely.

I got texted by a Boston fan, and there were multiple obscure websites reporting it. I’m not really sure how it’s possible, would this not be textbook tampering?!?

the leafs trade 2 unknown unprotected 1sts, which is a lot worse.
the habs 2 picks are known. also as per puckpedia those 2 picks are worth #6 overall. if you do the pick math thing.I know you want to view this trade as a W for the Habs but let’s not forget Dobson was a -16 last year and before you say “he was on a terrible Islanders team” he was +12 the year before on that same terrible team. I have no idea why as I don’t watch the Islanders but you have to wonder why to some degree. Maybe last year was a blip, Habs fans will be hoping so but the pressure will ramp up for this kid now coming to Montreal riding a newly signed 9.5M contract per year.
As a neutral observer IMO neither team is a winner (or loser) in this yet. That won’t be clear until Dobson starts to play with the Habs and the Islanders get their new winger onboard and playing and make their draft picks (and to your point they pan out or don’t) we just really don’t know yet.
I don’t disagree from a strategy perspective this is a deal that makes sense for Montreal but it’s a risk (as is any trade).
i wouldn’t put much into Dobson plus minus.
at 5v5 he was +3 , hes out with empty net so get a lot of minuses. dumb stathis stats slipped last season, but the team as a whole did
