No, off for personal reasons that won’t be addressed. I’m curious if it’s a family funeral.
Funerals are usually a lot quicker than this seems like it is going to be. Somebody important to him is probably sick with a serious illness. Same thing happened to Aaron Rodgers which significantly delayed his signing with the Steelers this summer.
Leafs 1st unit PP looked horrid vs. the Senators. Matthews missed a breakaway to seal the game. Leafs lost in OT. Classic Leafs. Good thing these games don’t matter but it wasn’t pretty.

So this site still has problems with you quote something quoted and you still need to edit your post before you can post or it just mysteriously vanishes?
Have there been any fixes over the summer? Are people still just . . .dealing with this and posting here because this at this point it’s not particularly impressive for a message board to have this many bugs.
Seems to work good enough. These platforms are dying and dead. This is what is left.
They could save the year of his ELC by not using him at all until the playoffs. If he plays so well in the playoffs that he’s worth playing more than 9 games, then so be it. But if we have a situation where we have McMann (or any other plug like Jarnkrok, Kampf, Robertson etc.) scoring 0 goals like they did last year, pull him out of the line-up, put in Cowan and see what it gets you.
I guess that’s my point… what’s more important, a year of his ELC or production from the lineup right now? I say fuck it, sell off that garbage to whoever will take it and play the best team.
But like I said, this kid has to prove he can play pro hockey at a level needed. Honest question for you, where do you see him? A top six offensive guy? Or a middle six two way guy?
He is small so if his offensive game isn’t on a higher level, like, Kane, Crosby, Marner, St. Louis, chances are his ceiling is 2nd line winger but probably 3rd line two-way PKer, maybe like a Darcy Tucker. Good complimentary player but not a franchise cornerstone. Some are saying Travis Konecny, which makes quite a bit of sense.

FYI, gave it some thought and I like what you’re saying about Cowan except one thing, fuck using up one year of his contract BUT mainly keep him on the Marlies. Call him up and send him down as needed nice and easy tho, isn’t that a nice thing considering all the little hiccups the NHL is trying to put into place cap wise? Waiver exempt guys might start getting used a bit differently, nice and helpful IR coverage.

I don’t blame him. Most of the Canadian teams are in woketarded markets. But, Edmonton gives him the best chance to compete for the #1 job and win a Cup while being the least shitty place in Canada to live, minus the harsh winter.
Ok UG I truly get what you’re saying and I do mostly agree with you but I am also willing to believe that Domi can be “outplayed” in camp so to speak, hence why I’ll leave a little window open for the “kid” and here’s why.
I get what you’re saying too but it doesn’t add up and here’s why.
The “kid” isn’t 18 anymore, he’s 20, and he’s made a very very very notable development in size and strength this past year. Please keep that in mind. However if he can’t be used in a top 6 roll yes agreed send him down. Also, do you put a rookie with JT and Nylander when they’re so defensively questionable? A big ass NO so that means unless Cowan can take Marner’s old spot he goes down to the Marlies as you’re saying.
20 is still kid territory on this team. This is a playoff team, desperate for playoff success and Cowan has ZERO NHL games under his belt. There isn’t only a size and strength issue, there is also the issue of having to play demanding minutes. Playing on the 1st line requires elite timing, skating and most overlooked, stamina. Playing 20+ minutes a night is hard enough as it is, imagine versus the best of the best, every, single game. As motivated as he might be, that grind doesn’t usually end well for 20 year old rookies after 82 games. Then imagine the playoffs on top of all that.
So please keep in mind that’s all I’m suggesting, he has 1 spot out of 12 forward spots he can earn and it’s top line so he will need to have a fantastic camp/preseason to earn it.
He earned an opportunity but that opportunity is to get a taste of what it takes. It’s not a real opportunity. He’s already been pushed to the outside of the line-up with the summer of additions and not enough subtractions.
The Leafs have a strong backend and Knies and Matthews are very stable defensively (I know they aren’t Marner but please understand that’s not the argument I’m trying to make) and Knies is also the type who would crush anyone overstepping anyone who fucked with a rookie on his line.
The Leafs do not have a strong backend. They have old bones, not enough RHD and a garbage Rielly.
So the only real reason I think that could work is that unlike Marner he could be on a line 1 that has two very good wingers instead of one great one and one iffy one like Marner had to play with other than time to time. As I said tho, the kid will need to have a hell of a camp with essentially zero question marks to earn his chance.
There are more than half a dozen question marks. Height, weight, strength, stamina, offensive skill and lack of experience plus too many other players under contract. I think Cowan is better off being with the Marlies and being called up for the playoffs. That’s when a timely hot stretch of 2-4 weeks could prove to be when he’s most useful, not for the marathon that is 82 NHL games. He got his OHL fame mostly for being a playoff performer so that’s probably when the Leafs would be best to use him because it’s also when they need the most help. I’d rather have Cowan spring-loaded than worn out for the playoffs.
Well at least he made a point of bringing up how a potential rookie who’s nearly 6’ and weighs 190lbs is so notably undersized that it’s worth mentioning. He truly hits the important info.
“Nearly” 6′ is an adorable way to put it. By NHL standards, he’s undersized, both height and weight. As a rookie, he’s going to get pushed and thrown around a lot, especially by defenders. If his offensive game isn’t dangerous enough to be a legitimate threat, he’ll be like Robertson, thrown to the bottom of the line-up.
Cowan is a long term project, with the number of wingers they added and the pylons they still have, it would be a massive mistake to waste a year of his ELC, the same way they have previously made that mistake in the past.

Robertson | Kampf | PezzettaAnother 6 guys who are all way ahead of Cowan in the bottom-six role, except Robertson but he’s got experience and a way better NHL level shot. Even if Jarnkrok and Kampf get traded for nothing in return, there are still 4 guys ahead of Cowan. And the rumors of that useless piece of shit Roslovic being signed too to fill back up one spot.
Then, in terms of other UFA options, McLeod, Dube and Formenton are all proven NHL players who could be signed for dirt cheap. All 3 bring skills the Leafs could use; McLeod excellent at FOs, solid 3C option, Formenton is a speedster, scoring threat with PK ability and Dube provides top-six ability and PP skills with a previous connection to Treliving. All 3 are in their prime and bring more to a playoff team (including a chip on their shoulder) than Cowan.
