ParticipantThe leafs have been bounced for 9 years straight in the 1st or 2nd round. So no difference.
Only now we dont have to watch marner float for the final 3 games of a playoff round.Wrong. Panthers are going to be the same and the Leafs took them to 7. If they dumped Tavares and Rielly, brought in two-way centers to play 2C and 3C via trade, they could have had a chance.
This team is just going to be stitched together with pieces of scrap held together with chewing gum.

ParticipantNo QO for Holmberg
Addition by subtraction then paying 3.25 AAV for his replacement.

ParticipantMarchand for 6 years is hilarious.
Won’t matter. They stay the best in the Division and in the East, probably win at least 1 more Cup in the next 3 years.
Leafs getting worse, Tampa Bay isn’t a problem for them, nobody else in the division is even close.
Leafs will get bounced in the 1st and 2nd round until Matthews leaves next as a UFA.
The only issue for the Panthers is if Bob plays his age at 37+. But once they clear his 10 AAV, they’ll easily be able to afford another goalie.

ParticipantFuck, Provorov staying in CBUS.
Dodged a bullet. He sucks for 30 points at that price. We already have Rielly.

ParticipantHyper also said he doesn’t know how Marchand doesn’t wind up with the Leafs, so he’s an idiot.
Well he was probably right because Marchand used the Leafs as leverage so the Panthers gave him a 6 year deal. If they didn’t, he’d probably abuse the Leafs for a 3 year, 7.5+ AAV deal.
Players, if they’re smart, always use the Leafs and the media as a leverage point and it usually works.

ParticipantFriedman is reporting that they are closing in on a 6 year $32m deal – so $5.3m . . . 6 YEARS? He’s 37 now, so it’s a 35+ contract that isn’t really buriable and will count against the cap for all 6 years – if he retires at 40, there’s 3 years of $5.3m against the cap. Yeesh. That’s a . . . commitment.
If they win one more Cup in the next 3 years, they won’t care. Cap will probably be at 115-120 million by year 4 or 5.

ParticipantVegas doesn’t mess around. They know what they want, then get it, then they discard what they’re bored with.
Exactly why the Leafs, with their infinite budget, should have thrown the boat at McPhee to jump ship as President of Hockey Ops.
Instead, we got a retarded Shanahan for 10 years and now his flunky assistant GM who ran Calgary into the ground and is going to do the same here.

ParticipantLooks like Marchand is going back Florida.
Big surprise.
Kyper is saying Kadri is coming back to Toronto.

ParticipantThey’ll have to be creative (and so will Marchand) b/c if they dump Rodrigues they’ll have 7.9M with 10F, 6D and 1G. A goalie, a 7th dman, and an 11th fwd is going to eat up $3M minimum so Marchand would have to be under $5M. They’ll just sign someone else if he wants to get paid and they’ll add another big name at the deadline to fit under the cap.
Not too creative, they’d just have to make the deal longer to lower the cap hit so they can squeeze in league minimum veterans like Pacioretty looking to win a Cup on a stacked team.
They’ll have no problems getting the lower line-up filler if they keep all their big fish.
Unholy_Goalie
Participant$12M x 8 isn’t bad. Maybe renege on the trade and keep Marner, lol.
Maybe when Toronto doesn’t have an insane tax rate, that could happen.
