Exactly. A nice young 50P guy signed for a year. If he works out great and if not oh well. GMs need to take a gamble once in awhile and safe ones are not worth getting upset about.

    8 goals, 18 points, -13.

    Great gamble.

BWAHAHAHAHA, bros acting like the 4 foot pass Marner made in game six couldn’t have been made by literally anyone in the NHL.

He got the puck because of his excellent positioning, quick reaction time, spun quickly to shield the puck, took a bump under pressure to make the play and got it to Matthews swiftly for a 1 on 1 chance.

He made it look easy, because he’s that good, but he got the primary assist in Game 6 for a reason no matter how badly you want to take it away from him.

I don’t expect a star but a 24 year old fast skating playmaker at 3.4 is fine for the price. If he fails, they can let him go as an RFA or try to trade him at seasons end. He’s the right age and has a decent track record for 2nd/3rd line scoring. He might be a flop, it’s perfectly possible, but the cost was almost nothing outside of cap and it isn’t a huge cap hit.

More like a single than a home run, but sometimes you need to take chances when you don’t have any prospects you expect to make the jump outside of one guy.

This guy fills none of the boxes the Leafs need to succeed in the playoffs. Even if he does reach his potential of 50 points as some are praying for, he doesn’t have the attributes or the skills the Leafs need to beat the Panthers. I don’t see a one-way, tiny, winger like this on the Panthers.

If they’re talking to Utah, they must be aware that Jack McBain exists. Make a bigger trade to acquire a guy like that who actually fills what the Leafs need.

You should look closer. Tiny, one-way, wingers with 0 playoff experience is a waste of cap space for what this team needs to have real playoff success.

Good thing they’re not keeping an over priced Marner then. He disappears in games 5 through 7 when the refs put their whistles away and the games become truly physical.

At least the new guy puts up 50% of the points at 25% of the cost assuming his new salary will be at least $14 mill.

Must be why Marner helped win 3 games against Florida with a GWG, and two primary assists on GWGs (one in Game 6).

Marner is going to look great holding the Cup over his head in Vegas, just like Kadri did in Colorado.

id wait for the summer to play out and see where the Leafs Land before shitting your pants.
If they move on from some of Kampf, Yarnk, Roberston and Homberg

Looking at Malgin vs Macelli i dont see the comp. Malgin was 26 points per 82, Maccelli has 34 assists per 82 (48p), much more of a playmaker

You should look closer. Tiny, one-way, wingers with 0 playoff experience is a waste of cap space for what this team needs to have real playoff success.

UGs biggest concern when we all moved on from Mitchy-pooh was how do you replace his 102pts. Well, we just got roughly 50 for $3.5M, so now we have $9Mish to get another 52 I guess. Seems very doable.

The Panthers has zero players even remotely close to 100pts, and they won the Cup. You need 4 lines that can score to be successful, you figure after watching this team for the last almost decade one could figure that out.

Wrong again. Barkov and Tkachuk have both had seasons of 95-100 points in their career. You’re lying to yourself to try and make this garbage player seem better than he is. He had 8 goals and 18 points last year, -13. That’s not a guarantee for 50 points. It’s also not a guarantee that even if he does get 50 points that they’ll be worth anything in the playoffs or if he’s a minus. But I bet you thought Malgin would score 50 points too.

You need stronger, two-way players to be successful. This guy is another tiny, weak, defensive liability playing with Tavares and Nylander. You figure watching this team lose the same way every year you’d learn a fucking thing by now.

imagine crying over Tarasenko who makes 4.75m scored 11 goals.. and won a cup with stl, 7 years ago

If the Leafs are going to waste cap space on soft wingers, they’re better off doing it with guys who at least have a chance of of proven playoff success. He also won a Cup with the Panthers 2 years ago.

Or maybe you enjoy watching the Leafs keep make the same mistakes and lose every year when it matters.

    Enjoy Malgin 2.0.

UG could quite literally be the leafs GM himself and he’d criticize all his moves online lol

I hope our new MM has a spectacular year just to picture him punching the air in his typical rage.

A fantastic waste of cap space “savings”.

You think this guy does better than Tarasenko who just got traded for future considerations?

I’d rather have the guy with 121 games of playoff experience, 49 playoff goals, 79 playoff points, won a Cup with Berube as his coach and actually has a chance to be an acquisition that improves the Leafs playoff chances.

    You’re happy with this trade?

Tarasenko just got traded to Minnesota for future considerations. I’d rather have him, at least he played under Berube when they won the Cup, than this piece of shit.

    You need a Snickers.

I doubt that Kampf and Jarnkrok are still there – at the very least I’d expect Kampf moved out.

Maccelli is a playmaking forward who can play either wing. I do read that the Leafs are hoping he’s a top-6 option and there’s an awful lot of analysts who believe he could fill that role quite nicely. *IF* they brought in a legitimate top-6 winger for a 2029 2nd round pick, that’s tidy work. If he turns out to be a 3rd line player, it’s not exactly the worst deal they could have made – but I’ve said before I want more grit and competitiveness in our bottom-6 and this guy isn’t that.

I never doubt the Leafs ability to retain and acquire garbage players so Jarnkrok and Kampf, still being on the team, is still a very real possibility especially because they should have been thrown to the side years ago and they’re both still here.

Malgin 2.0 is what this guy is. A tiny, defensively useless, barely offensively effective winger is not what this team needs, especially in the playoffs which this guy has ZERO games of experience.

He has no spot in the top-six if the goal is to improve the team. He’s a LW which means he’s not playing on the 1st line because Knies is there at 7.75 AAV and he’s not going anywhere. So that means he goes down to the 2nd line with two most irresponsible defensively players in the top-six, Tavares and Nylander. This guy is already a career -27. Playing with Tavares and Nylander, in the playoffs, will be a defensive disaster.

Tarasenko just got traded to Minnesota for future considerations. I’d rather have him, at least he played under Berube when they won the Cup, than this piece of shit.

If this guy cost a conditional 7th round pick and his salary was 900K, I could live with the deal. But at 3.4 AAV, it shows a serious lack of judgement from Leafs management. This is not the type of move that indicates any kind of DNA is actually changing. This is moving chairs on the Titanic.

At least we still have a MM on the roster. Brad is just filling out the roster with 1 year deals to bring in McDaddy next year:-)

You know who else is a UFA next year? Jack Eichel.

Which means Vegas could steal McDavid if they wanted too, if they let Eichel walk.

And they could have 20-24 million in cap space to do it too.

It’s a bit of a strange acquisition – he’s not a big guy and doesn’t play physical. He’s not much of a board presence and doesn’t kill penalties. He did score 17 a couple of years ago and I recall people were making noise about him, but nothing really stands out in my opinion. I guess he can shift up and down the lineup, so he’s a decent line 2/3 guy, but my bet would be that he’s less of a line 2 guy.

Waste of 3.4 AAV in cap space. Jake McBain is sitting right there in Utah with no contract and this is the garbage that Treliving brings in to win the playoffs? Treliving is huffing glue.

Matias / Kampf / Jarnkrok. <— Almost 8 million for this bullshit line.

    Out in the 1st round.

According to the reliable “some guy on X”, LA and the Ducks also interested. Seems like the only way any value would be coming back.

There is no chance he’s going to the hellscape that is California when the benefits of living and playing in Vegas are far better.

I can’t see the Leafs getting both Roy and Hague, but that would be about the best scenario you could hope for.

Way more likely it’s one or the other, not both but more likely Roy because they have to clear his cap space, among others, to sign Marner.

Marner is going to look great holding that Cup over his head in Vegas.

There is talk amongst league executives that Leafs have asked for Nicolas Roy and Nicolas Hague in return. It will be interesting to see if this happens.

Would have to get rid of Rielly or Benoit because the Leafs are already full on LHD and he’s an RFA with arbitration rights.
