For the first time in 12 years, the NHL plans to return to the Olympics. The Boston Bruins and the rest of the NHL will take their talents to the international stage.
Furthermore, the Bruins may be well represented on Team USA. USA hockey invited defenseman Charlie McAvoy and goaltender Jeremy Swayman to the upcoming Olympic Orientation Camp . The camp, which will be held in Plymouth, Mich. from Aug. 26-27 is largely an administrative and team-building event. It includes no formal on-ice activity or public component, according to U.S. Hockey.
McAvoy already made the team
One of 16 defensemen invited to camp, it is worth noting that McAvoy has already been named to the U.S. roster for the 2026 games in Milano-Cortina Back in June, USA Hockey named McAvoy named to the roster as part of Team USA’s “Olympic Six”. Moreover, McAvoy and the Canucks’ Quinn Hughes were the only two blue liners on the club’s Olympic Six. McAvoy is coming off an injury-derailed season that ultimately came to an end when he suffered a major upper-body injury that ultimately became infected during the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Notably, neither Mason Lohrei nor Andrew Peeke received Orientation Camp invitations. However, both played for Team USA on the gold-medal winning 2025 IIHF World Championship team.
Conversely, Swayman received an Orientation Camp invite. He led the Americans to gold at the Worlds. Previously, he served as the No. 3 goaltender behind the Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck and Dallas netminder Jake Oettinger at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off this past February.
Presently, Swayman remains the likely No. 3 goalie on the Team USA depth chart. However, it’s not a slam-dunk.
Kraken goaltender and North Andover, Mass. native Joey Daccord was the fourth goaltender invited to the upcoming orientation camp. Daccord posted a 27-23-5 record and .906 save percentage last season in 57 games for the Seattle Kraken.
Bruins on other national teams
In addition to Team USA hopefuls, the Bruins will have at least two 2026 Olympic representatives. The Czech Hockey Federation already named both David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha to their Olympic team rosters.
Moreover, the Black and Gold’s 2026 Olympic involvement will almost certainly extend beyond that group of four. Elias Lindholm, Viktor Arvidsson, and Hampus Lindholm are all contenders for spots on Team Sweden. Henri Jokiharju and Joonas Korpisalo are options for Team Finland. Finally, Dans Locmelis is a near-lock for a spot on the Latvian national team.
The 2026 Olympics will begin on Feb. 6 and conclude on Feb. 22.
