Leafs need to target Boeser, to replace the Marner offense. Also move on from Kampf, Robertson & McMann.

But context-wise these are projected cap numbers from capwages (some of which I’d disagree with, but it’s a basis for conversation):

    Boeser: 8.5
    Ehlers: 8.1
    Drouin: 5
    Suter: 5
    Granlund: 5
    Roslovic: 4.1
    Mangiapane: 3.8
    Olofsson: 3.4
    Dadonov: 3.3
    Nyquist: 3.2
    Appleton: 3.2
    Beauvillier: 3.2
    Brown: 2.9
    Raddysh: 2.7
    Skinner: 2.6
    Armia: 2.5
    Bjugstasd: 2.3
    Tanev: 2.2
    Eller: 2.1
    Kunin: 1.8
    Dvorak: 1.8
    Tatar: 1.5
    Kuraly: 1.5
    Brazeau: 1.5
    Jeannot: 1.4
    Sturm: 1.4
    Eyssimont: 1.4
    Faksa: 1.3

I’ll take a Granlund, a Tanev and an Eyssimont.

FFS, it takes me 15 minutes to respond because the browser I was using doesn’t get along with this site, it “toggles” me logged in and logged out and by the time I navigate to the thread I am toggled off … had to use MS Edge, ugh.

Anyway, I believe the NHL has revenue sharing.

Interestingly, the article on team revenue I saw (June 2024) showed the Oilers with the second highest revenue. I never would have guessed that. Panthers were bottom 6, but I think maybe they were the only tax-free state in the bottom 10?

I think the Leafs do get an advantage in terms of just being a wealthy enough franchise that they can structure their contracts with large lump sums (??) I am not positive how any of this works.

Gave it a quick read, basically cut 6% from the top 10 teams and give it to the bottom 10 teams and yeah, a team like Toronto who the fuck knows what they’ll do, they’re rich lol.

Wife and I were just talking about whether or not the Leafs would have won without a cap. I know they failed for decades, but I am tempted to say that, with no cap, they would ice an all-star team every year and probably would have won.

I also wonder how much they can make handshake deals and promise people lucrative retirement gigs (Tavares??) I don’t imagine that is legal, but it would be nearly impossible to enforce that rule.

Anyone see any good PC deals out there… gaming laptops, relatively powerful (even though I don’t play any demanding games right now)

Had a nice 17″ Legion, tore it down trying to fix it, but it’s fried 🙁

Well yeah, but additional income is not additional cap space. In fact, the additional income allows the Leafs to support other teams, including the ones offering players the huge tax break. Even if it is only 43 games worth it is still significant.

Huh? How are the leafs supporting other teams? The leafs can’t hand opposition teams money openly, unless there are acceptable payouts from tv contracts etc? (Sincere question there)

It’s actually closer to 16.5 AAV in Toronto for 12 AAV in Vegas. 14 AAV in Toronto would have been a discount for Marner.

No surprise he didn’t go to California. He can visit from Vegas but he’s way better off in every way in Vegas. Good for him.

Well players are paid game by game so it’s not a full difference like that, Leaf players only get paid 43 games in Ontario for instance and they aren’t high income earners anywhere else. Also, a notable difference for players on the leafs is they get a notable additional income for marketing which we get zero info about.

UG could quite literally be the leafs GM himself and he’d criticize all his moves online lol

Has anyone figured out if UG and Jewel are the same person?

    I just assume they are.

Yes, so far he is almost in the same category, but I still have some hopes for him,
    because of injures.
He is the Leafs first line center, without him this team
    has no chance to compete.

This is just rationalizing giving Matthews a free pass. The injury narrative is constant and tired. Whenever he doesn’t produce, he is magically “injured”, so he is excused.

The truth about Matthews is that he *should* be a top-3 player in this league. He has the talent. We have all seen it. The reality is that nobody on the Leafs has underperformed their talent, or their salary, in the playoffs more than he has.

Oh, believe me, I want Rielly gone as well. Tavares doesn’t impress me much either. Both are soft and both don’t show up when it counts. The only one that I disagree with is Matthews. The guy has multiple Rocket Richard trophies, plays a 200 foot game, plus wins faceoffs. If he indeed played hurt all year, he did well to get the goals that he got. I noticed that there was no zip on his shots, this year, but with proper rest and therapy, he’ll probably hit 50 next year, regardless who he’s playing with. I’d like to see Brock Boeser on his wing and see where that goes. The rest can pack up and take their dog and pony show to the great unknown of Utah or Minnesota.-Prince

    Sorry, zero faith in Matthews.
He has been as bad, or worse, than Marner in the playoffs. How he gets a free pass, year after year is ridiculous.

OK, let’s discuss this. Has Marner ever scored 40 goals? Has Marner won any hardware in the NHL, like Matthews? So why is Marner wanting Matthews money and millions more than Nylander? I know the Cap is going up, but we heard this before, then Covid hit? Did Marner take a hometown discount back then? No. He squeezed every dollar out of the Leafs and he’s doing it again. On the primary assist in Game 6, vs Florida, that little shovel pass wasn’t a spectacular play. He was trying to not get hit and just chipped it straight towards Matthews. That goal was a soft goal and shouldn’t have went in. On Willy, I’m not impressed with him either. The difference is, he’s under contract and Marner is not. If I had my druthers, I’d move both of these soft primadonna’s. At least you could shore up with cap money in free agency, plus gain some futures as well. -Prince

You are more tolerant than me.
I wanted them all (rielly matthews marner nylander tavares) out, get some picks and started the F over. I don’t think you can afford to have any of them making 8 figures and ice a winning team.

It’s just weird. Is it someone with a grudge? How come that nonsense hasn’t been stopped. The whole thing is kind of comical.

I just got banned for asking if the banning was continuing and pointing out that it got pretty stupid before the playoffs started…

    I guess I hurt someone’s feelings.

Marner is walking. The Leafs no longer have any say in the matter.

The mistakes with the management of this core have been ongoing for nine years.

Marner walking July 1 is not the “mistake” – it’s the cherry on top of an ongoing decade long organizational failure. -Fifty
