With apologies to the late Mitch Hedberg: Goalie drafting is like a baked potato in a conventional oven. Draft one even if you don’t really want it right now. By time it’s ready, who knows?

I think some team will grab Lakovic before the Avs pick comes up for Philly. If he’s there, it’s worth a shot. With all of those first and second pound picks (if they keep them), I would expect the Flyers to potentially take the first goalie (Ravensbergen) off the board as well.

Big thanks to our developers at FZP Digital. They got right on it.

Yes. Keep it to hockey please. Don’t want to have to take away posting ability or block people.

It’s not a strong draft in terms of superstar talent. In fact, there may not be any franchise player types in this Draft. There will be some top-six forwards, top-four D and at least one projected future NHL starting goalie (first-rounder). But there’s no projected franchise player. Depth is OK. The drop off to the point where guys are drafted for one or two high-end traits OR because of physical tools balanced against a very raw current game will probably come a little earlier than other years. There are, however, always the sleepers… maybe even a Jamie Benn in the 4th/5th round if a team gets lucky on the development side.

Craig, as a former NHL scouting director and GM, has cache within that specialized realm. He has endless contacts. And he’s watching/attending/deconstructing prospect games all year. He isn’t always right, either in his predictions or player assessments. But give him this: He’ll go out on a limb if he feels strongly about something. Doesn’t care if he’s the one outlier or if plays out a totally different way. This is such and inexact “science”. He knows that. But he has his reasons for everything, whether right or wrong (or if it ruffles some feathers).

I have tons of respect for Craig Button and it’s not just because he does the pod once a year with Jason (and me). He loves what he does.

Mike and I had our update meeting with the developer yesterday. Suggested adding quote responses. Didn’t think about”ignore” button, thumbs up/down but it’s something I think we should discuss internally. We’re done with Phase 1 (building a site with basic functionality) and moving into Phase 2 (some additions, some tweaks for user experience quality). I’ll add your suggestions to our next discussion topics.

The odds of dropping are higher than holding the default pick specifically as a deterrent against tanking. I’m all for it. Finishing last still has the highest odds of picking first (25.5 percent) BUT there’s nearly a 3-in-4 chance of NOT getting the first overall pick (getting the 2nd or 3rd instead). It goes on down the line for teams near the bottom of the standings.

Shaw will be retained if he wants to stay (which he said he does). Dillabaugh will also be brought back.

VZ, if you click the accessibility menu on the left side of the site (the red circle with the stick figure person), you can enlarge the text size.

While Ferschweiler is a “Jonesy guy”, he won’t be hired if Danny objects. One thing you can say about Briere — whether you otherwise like the job he’s doing or not — is that he isn’t territorial in that way. If he likes the candidate, he’ll hire him whether it was his own idea or the POHO’s idea initially.

I think Lappy will get an interview (ala Scott Gordon some years back) but I think Shaw would have the interim tag removed before Lappy would get moved up from Phantoms HC to Flyers HC. My hunch is that Ferschweiler gets the job.

Thanks! No, we will not be having Tanner or Garth.
