Something else that’s important is culture. Boston’s culture led to guys taking less to remain competitive. You’re seeing that in Florida now. You saw it in Tampa as well. Maybe Tavares’ latest contract can start something here, but I think as long as Matthews continues to seek ego-satisfying numbers, nothing will change here.

What’s sickening is the NHL under Bettman doesn’t address this issue. They want a salary cap, but still give teams in the south an advantage. Knowing how much that the Leafs contribute in revenue sharing, it’s a slap in the face to the fanbase who gives money to franchises that continues to have an advantage, thanks to the tax issues. Bettman is a clown and needs to go!

Address it how? What taxes do you use, state, federal, municipal, sales? Do you adjust each team’s cap to create after tax cap rates? There’s no way the league is going to move to a system with the cap rate of all 32 teams are going to change every year.

Marner is talented but UG’s crying is making him gone so fucking worth it that I’m loving it lol

I’m sure he’ll find another topic to bitch about.

3.5M is not a top 6 winger. Move Kampf and Reaves out, and we have like 9M and change, not to mention Jarnkrok.

Let’s see what Tree can do before opening night; it’s only July 2nd.

They’re not spending over $25 million on the top line. They had a top line winger making less than a million last year. Also you guys are also dismissing the possibility of Cowan who won the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy just like Marner did the year before his first year in the NHL.

They’re not going to go hand out another $7+ million multi year contract especially when the GM isn’t signing anyone else to multi year contracts.

If the right guy is available through a trade, they’ll spend the money. Trade means money going out.

Kadri for Kampf and Jarnkrok, straight up.

Let’s hope their m-ntc doesn’t put a wrinkle in that trade proposal or Kadri NMC.

Friedman suggests that Naz interested in coming home. Would probably cost more than those two

So we are keeping our powder dry?

    Until the trade deadline?

Might still be in the Ehlers negotiations – apparently he’s going slow.

Otherwise ya, looks like Tree is saying no to any major overpays on these guys bottom 6 guys getting term and $$.

Or look for bargains later in the summer

So what, if anything, do the Leafs do tomorrow?!?

I like the idea of going after Mangiapane & Tanev and probably Connor Brown . . .but that leaves something like this:

    Knies – Matthews – Maccelli
    Mangiapane – Tavares – Nylander
    Tanev – Roy – Brown
    Lorentz – Laughton – McMann

I’m not sure Domi fits in. I mean this lineup offers over $7m in cap room – and it assumes that Domi, Jarnkrok and Kampf all find new homes – although I’ve always loved what Domi brings in terms of passion. But something like Tanev – Roy – Brown would offer speed, checking, tenacity and some size/physicality. A 4th of Lorentz – Laughton – McMann would also have some size, cycle ability, solid forecheck, decent speed on the wings and work ethic.

The problems ultimately – line 1 doesn’t get any more competitive; line 2 doesn’t get much better defensively; there’s not a ton of goals in the bottom-6 still, but probably as many as we have had – they would likely be scored on less and it creates a lot of PK options throughout the lineup.

I do think Macelli makes Domi the odd man out.

With Barkov seemingly signing for roughly $6M, the Cats are going to find a way to keep Marchand.

Tell me again how no tax states aren’t a massive advantage?

Get a load of this idiot.

    What kind of load?
