Participantlumping Marner with JT contract to make it look better is amazing. The entire discount is from JT, so that makes marner look better. thats so on brand fur dummies
So true.
just over $4m for a player that didn’t play on the top line with a top center or Marner and was still just under a ppg (0.9866) for the reg season and 0.53ppg in the playoffs is a pretty good deal. You weren’t going to get any player like that for that cost on the open market.Only an idiot would hate it
.
100% agree.

ParticipantWas off on vacation for a week and didn’t crack open the laptop once just read all the goings on etc. on my phone.
I’m not sure what’s worse UG’s constant whining like the little bitch he is about things that can’t change or that are just plain flat out made up bullshit or trying to use this site on a mobile phone.
I used to be able to log in on my phone but can’t even do that anymore. lol

ParticipantThe Habs deal with Dobson is a steal. The Habs are on the move up the standings. When you get the best player in the trade, you usually win. The Habs have a good young core in place and with Dobson in the fold, their defense is as good as the Leafs. Leafs window is only open for a couple of more years, with Ottawa, Montreal and Detroit making their move in the Atlantic.
This quote button is like an early Christmas in July!
True the Habs definatley got the best player in this deal right now and it’s not even close. Determining if this is a steal of a deal for them, a fair deal or a bad deal (unlikely IMO) will take years to really figure out since you don’t know what you have in a draft pick for years.
Windows open and close, I’m not convinced the quick ‘rebuild’ vs a complete one isn’t going to be something more and more teams figure out how to do but really it comes down to if players will sign deals that allow teams to do so.

ParticipantHabs gave up 2 x 1st round picks this year (16 and 17 overall) + an NHL player (Emil Heineman) just to get Dobson so it will be interesting to see over the years who wins this trade. Cush 29
To me Montreal is already a winner, and the Isles “could” be as well. Montreal already have an impressive cupboard of prospects. To trade the potential of the 16th and 17th pic for an established, and barely entering his prime 1st pairing D. is just what the Docotor ordered for Montreal.
Should the Isles use those pics to move up in the draft and they acquire the player they want, they could be winners as well if said prospect ends up being solid.
The potential for a win/win is pretty high.
I know you want to view this trade as a W for the Habs but let’s not forget Dobson was a -16 last year and before you say “he was on a terrible Islanders team” he was +12 the year before on that same terrible team. I have no idea why as I don’t watch the Islanders but you have to wonder why to some degree. Maybe last year was a blip, Habs fans will be hoping so but the pressure will ramp up for this kid now coming to Montreal riding a newly signed 9.5M contract per year.
As a neutral observer IMO neither team is a winner (or loser) in this yet. That won’t be clear until Dobson starts to play with the Habs and the Islanders get their new winger onboard and playing and make their draft picks (and to your point they pan out or don’t) we just really don’t know yet.
I don’t disagree from a strategy perspective this is a deal that makes sense for Montreal but it’s a risk (as is any trade).

ParticipantI wounder if the Habs parted ways with one of there 1st round picks
Both.
Worth it IMO1st off FYI everyone if you click “quote” on the person you are replying to it seems to now quote them and open up a reply which is awesome!
2. Not sure if it’s worth it (yet). The 2 x 1st round picks + a player that people are perhaps underestimating is a big price for an RFA IMO.
The player the Habs traded was Emil Heineman – 23 year old Sweedish winger who is 6’2 and 200 lbs and scored 10 goals last year. He could grow into a nice player for the Islanders.
Like I said this will an interesting one to see how each team faired in this trade over the years.
If the Leafs had traded 2 x top 20 1st round pics & that player for Dobson with the extension you just know many Leaf fans and for sure non-leaf fans would be screaming it was an overpayment! I actually think this one is a bit of a wash right now and both teams feel like they won.

Also seeing Oilers signed Trent Fredric to 3.85M FOR 8 YEARS….8 years? WOW.

ParticipantWow
FACK OFF!!! NOOOOOO
Habs catapult past the leafs.
Ugh.- FakeYou really think this signing puts the Habs in a better place than the Leafs? I don’t, not right now anyway.
As always time will tell.

ParticipantJT showing these young punks how it’s done – take less so the team can have more.
Love it!

ParticipantJamie Benn re-ups with Dallas
1 M for 1 year with lots of performance bonuses.
That’s a great deal for Dallas, he clearly wants to stay there and is taking less than he could elsewhere.
JT take note and follow suit!

ParticipantWhat happened to the formatting on page 12 of this thread ? lol
It’s as messy and terrible as a specific posters constant terrible takes, whining and temper tantrums.

ParticipantWhy would the oilers be interested in either? Gibson sucks, swayman is ok but too expensive.
Besides, Im sure there would be cap retention unless the oilers are unloading a contract of their own the other way.-FakeTo answer your ? as to why – it’s the Oilers! The same Oilers who thought Soupy was the solution to their goaltending woes….I could totally see them going after either of those guys (Gibson or Swayman) to be honest. Not sure what other options are out there and available – maybe they can get Vancouver to trade them Demko since they have Lankinen and Silovs as well.
Demko will be going into his final year of his current deal at 5M.

ParticipantWell at least two of their core 4 will be the best players in the league, ones that do well in the playoffs and at least their team has consistently made it past the 2nd round.
They have $16m in cap space…$10 of that will be eaten up by bouchard.
Unless they do a bouchard for Dobson trade? – FakeDon’t like ruin my high bro….I was trying to make myself feel better! lol
Sadly you are right though, 2 of the core 4 (hell Bouchard was a monster 2 years ago in the playoffs too, Nurse is, well Nurse) if the Leafs core had gotten to the cup finals back to back years I’d be all aboard the run it back train!
I do feel like Bouchard is going to be overpaid regardless where he goes, he has a cannon but his Defensive game is m’eh at beast IMO.

a 4th rounder for this year draft.oh! man.
Yup and no salary retained. The oilers must have someone on their radar….that and clearing cap space for Bouchard.
I think it’s just that they need the cap space badly to sign Bouchard because Dry Saddle jumps from 8.5 last year to 14M this year.
I heard it on Spittin’ Chicklets when Biz was chriping Whitney but it’s kinda true – Oilers are about to enter their “Core 4” era.
Mc Jesus – 12.5
Nurse – 9.25
Bouchard – 10M?
I mean at least it’s 2 F and 2 D but still this is going to put them in a tight spot. Hearing they are going to also try to trade Arvidsson just to clear space and I read that an offer sheet for Bouchard may occur.
Nice to read about these things and it not be about the Leafs for a change. lol
